Personally, my thoughts are that you have not read the thread at all.

Shurikenwork? Turns melee attacks(animation) into Throwing attack. Requires consumable ammo to take effect. It would be interesting to see if it could work, maybe kind of similar to the double attack stones. Or maybe a ninja tool that is expended upon each attach round.

We got to think outside abyssea and all the atma boost, because abyssea expansions are done.

I dunno why you posted this comment in 2 threads, but the answer is the same, haste is not somehow less effective outside abyssea.

But consider this, Ninja shuriken when thrown actually hits harder than a single katana melee hit. So what if Ninja gets an ability that allows them to only throw but faster twice or even triple throw instead. Similar to the MNK ability that lets them kick only. Ninja can now throw quicker twice in a row or triple.

Lv99 is still some levels away so i'm sure they can make new gears, weapons and abilities that could fit all this.

thoughts?

If throwing a shuriken doesn't do more then 6 melee attacks worth of damage and tp gain, it's not useful. Triple throw would not accomplish this. So who cares if 1 shuriken can do more then 1 melee hit, it needs to beat 6.

Like I said, my answer is the same as before. Give it a boost, throw faster, and even throwing only. There are throwing weapons with 250 base dmg since the RoTZ expansion. Ever tried throwing those artic winds from sky? I crit a mob with that for 600dmg a few years ago at lv75 and that is equivalent to 5 swings. Look the big picture here is that there is plenty of room for improvements for this skill. Try to brainstorm for this skill in FFXI that is lacking improvements for throwing.

I don't mean to be rude, but you thought wrong.

Andrien, it was a nice try. But you're fighting a never ending battle. Nobody wants to have fun in FFXI, everyone just wants to be hardcore efficient machines.

Once upon a time there was a MNK in my party, he would TP up to 300TP, disengage and begin boosting as high as he could. He would then engage and WS, then repeat. That's about as useful as killing your DoT to perform a ranged attack. Unless they absolutely broke it and made it do insane damage, there's no point besides "role playing" and annoying your party.

Oh and the MNK? I kicked him after he refused to stop wasting our time.

Edit: Thread tags are awesome btw

This entire thread is about making throwing stronger or as strong as Melee so it can be useful.

If it was about fun, This thread wouldn't exist, because as far as i know you can still have fun with shuriken, Even if they don't do super damage. Please don't act like you started this thread "just for fun". you started it because Shuriken damage was gimp.

We're not against making shuriken damage useful, Wish especially, Hes just explaining over and over how the ideas being tossed out would not make shurikens useful. Theres maybe 1-2 Useful ideas in this thread as of now, anything that would not help is of course pointless to add.

What good would it be if they added that mans idea? Throwing would still be sh*t Stew and it would have been a completely worthless update. Not because Throwing will always suck, but because the idea that was suggested simply would not fix Throwing itself.

I don't see why you think in order to have fun you have to convince us to gimp ourselves.

The fact you're asking us to Brainstorm seems proof you didn't read the thread. Cause we have quite a few times >.<

Look back at several of my posts and another by a guy who suggested a "Throwing Attacks" like Job Trait. however if it consumed Ammo i don't quite like the idea. You'd lose bonuses like Qirmiz Tathlum. But it could be a worthwhile trade off if done right.

Also, The problem about "Throwing Faster" is there is a 2sec delay between you ranged attacking, and hitting the mob. I cant recall if its from start, or finish, of the animation, but either way, the Delay on the Shuriken could be 1, and you'd still have to wait 2 seconds to swing next. Thats where the problem in throwing comes, from the terrible "Ranged attack" Coding. Its also a reason (one of many) RNG is less than desirable as of late. (maybe not right now? i dont know how well that new JT works)

Now, at 99, I would think the Damage on the shuriken would have to be somewhere around 400 to make it make up for 6 rounds of Damage. however, You also lose 6 attacks worth of TP. So not only would it have to be an incredibly fast-shuriken, and incredibly high-Damage, It would have to give you nearly 36 TP in one throw just to make up for lose of TP you would get from not throwing a Shuriken.

... For me, this isn't an "ANTI-SHURIKEN" Rant. If we get a Throwing update for NIN, My only goal is to make sure its not completely worthless. Some of the ideas in this thread would be as such, They would not make it any more useful...

So even if I come off as rude, I take this hit, because if we get an update, i want it to matter. The Key things about Throwing that need improvements

1) It needs to make up for Missed Attack rounds. TP and DMG wise.
2) They need to give us Cheap, or semi-cheap, Readily accessible shuriken that fill the above qualifications.
3) Or Simply give us a JT like "Kick attacks" for Shuriken.

The biggest problem is creating the above might make us better ranged DD than Rangers. which is another problem I won't get into ...

So yes, while an update to throwing would be nice, We just dont want it to be a pointless update.

@Karbuncle

I agree with you. It is difficult to balance this out when you put all those points together. The best thing I could think of now is have Shurikens with insane base damage on them like the throwing ammo dropped off from sky gods.

if it been said before apologies... yes, i haven't read through all 26 pages >.>; but hmmm yea anywhooo... my idea for making throwing is as simple as this, SE needs to eliminate the use of multiple shurikens and just be able to use 1 (multiple meaning being able to hold 1-99 but still have different types and lv's) SE can then create a special item slot to hold a certain jobs tool (nin, being shurikens of course) and the throwing aspect for nin will be sort of like a mnk's kick attack in where it wouldn't be controlled by the player it would just happen. they can also create a job ability (like mnks footwork) where throwing would be used instead of a normal katana hit when active.

alot of you may say "why would this be helpful" well only thing i can thing of is for the use of flying mobs where they can only be hit by range attacks? this can be a useful thing to use it on.

im not sure how SE would implicate the extra "job tool" slot... or maybe they can just use the normal range slot without sacrificing the ammo slot for things like Qirmiz Tathlum. idk just an idea throw out there if it wasnt said already

if they made a job trait that let you throw qualifying ranged weapons randomly with your melee attacks like kick attacks, I'd club a baby seal (because of how happy I was, clubbing baby seals is fun). They. Should. Do. THIS!
