The 360 performance is getting worse and worse every patch.
Measuring my FPS I was getting about 5 fps in Abyssea Altepa during a group.
What I'd like to request is - Give 360 users the same graphics settings options the PC has.
In game -
Shadows toggle likely largest performance affecting setting
Weather Effects Toggle
Clipping Plane
Footstep Effects
Animation Frame Rate
Out of game (From play online viewer - if this is possible)
Mip mapping toggle
Texture/Map Compression
Theres no reason FFXI on 360 shouldn't be able to maintain a constant 30 FPS like the PC version, especially since its based on the PC version.
Please give us the option to change these settings.

How are you lagging so badly? My 360 runs FFXI far more beautifully, and quickly than my crappy laptop. Are you sure its not just an internet issue?

It's PERFORMANCE not LATENCY so yes I'm sure its the 360 and not my internet. If it was my internet actions would be delayed. I'm talking choppy performance. Also, mobs always spawn on the 360 latest, there is no doubt the 360 is the inferior version of FFXI, but that doesn't mean it has to remain that way. (If you compare a 360 and PS2 side by side, monsters spawn on the PS2 first, 100% of the time, and actions are performed faster.)
Have you never used your 360 at Fafnir and seen it as a slideshow or done an 18 person abyssea at altepa?
The 360 performance is just ... awful when there are a lot of players on the screen - so an option to toggle Shadows should resolve that. Frames per second often drops below 5 when in combat and that's near unacceptable for a system like the 360 - the graphics are just turned up too high, and giving us the option to control those settings, like the PC version, would allow the user to play FFXI in a way where we balance Performance vs Visuals.
I'm using the new 360 Slim as well.
A PC will never drop below 30 FPS, where the 360 will only reach 30 FPS if your standing in your mog house usually. (30 FPS is the cap for it).
Laptops usually don't perform well with FFXI as they tend to use inferior graphics cards, and even with a good graphics card, often have inferior drivers. That's not to say laptops can't handle FFXI, just a large % of them won't handle it well. My macbook pro handles it flawlessly.

Oh it runs fine ... sorta ... just in large parties gets choppy performance. Shadows take up a lot of resources, and when there are lots of players having their shadows rendered it creates a lower FPS.
This is the case on both the PC version and 360 version. Powerful PCs will never notice this, laptops may.
Giving a Shadows toggle, which is already on the PC version, to the 360, -should- allow near constant 30 FPS on the 360.

Time for a generic response:
It's had these issues since the day it came out for 360, it's not gonna get fixed anytime soon.

It's a relatively more open minded development team that can actually hear feedback now instead of it going into an unattended inbox.
So, all we would need is one community rep to see the suggestion, pass it on, give 30 seconds of coding, and put it in a new patch.
They based it on the PC version, the codes already there, we just can't toggle it. This feature is ... you guessed it ... already made and programmed, just excluded from the 360. It's asking to reinclude the advanced configuration menu.

It's not going to happen. The reason is that although code may be there, on the PC the advanced configuration menu is different window that runs outside both PoL and FFXI and is used to establish the startup parameters of the game. That is not an option with the way the 360 is designed. So no it's not just 30 seconds of code. You're rewriting the way the entire menu system functions in order to accommodate an advanced start up menu. It's not that it's not possible, it's just not feasible with how the 360 works.
Even the PC versions of PoL and FFXI don't have the advanced configuration menu built directly into them.

the game its self runs fine on xbox and it looks beautiful on hd tvs.. but there is some lag issues with it. I play full time on 360 and i can not do besieged with out crashing it just locks up with the massive frame rates. With Abyssea i have laggy issues too depending on what im doing. Though the trick is with the 360 is you can tell when a freeze/lock up is coming.. everything on the screen starts to lag... easy fix is just take 1 min of time and re log.. it resets the lag. it works every time. id rather re log then crash and have to completely re sign on..
Though having things like weather/shadows to turn off might be a big help having effects off helps but its not quite enough.

These commands can actually be done by typing them in or just using the Config from the in-game menu. Shadows/weather/clipping plane... have nothing to do with the external config that can't be done in-game. The commands are already there. Type /?
For now, I recommend 360 users disable visual displays such as magic from the visual filters.

Those are filters built into the game. What the OP is referring to are the options that are only available to PC users through the FFXI config in the windows start menu.

No those commands are not on the 360 version.
The commands to turn shadows off and weather clipping and stuff.
They do not work on the 360.
I was suggesting adding commands, that are in the PC version and are known to affect performance, to the 360.
