Steps:
1. Finished the battle in the mission Dawn against Promathia.
2. During the following cut scene I lost connection to the server.
3. After trying to log in again I see only a black screen.
4. I have tried checking my internet protocols and graphics settings and nothing has helped.
5. I cannot access the menu to call a GM for assistance, nor can I log out my character.

Yes, I'm using vanilla FFXI and this is still happening.

Then it's the other glitch where it's still remembering your location in ffxi. Only other way I know to solve it is to have a trusted friend login to your account, as that location data seem to be stored client side.

This may be a new glitch rather than a rehash of an old one. Numerous reports so far of people getting eternally trapped in limbo with battlefield entrance/exit issues recently, including on JPside. My guess is that the character location data is getting zeroed out and is literally "nowhere" according to the system. Logging into the character from another location (including diff hardware and ISP) does not seem to fix the problem, server resets didn't jiggle anything loose, can't be targeted by others, etc.
GMs seriously need new scripts tho.. Re-installing something this large should not be the first troubleshooting step in the standard process... And they need to tell people to use the template here whenever they tell us to file a bug report.
