If you want to support returning players, you need to make it easier to install and update. No one wants to wait 10+ hours to play FFXI.

I'm not quite sure how it took you 10+ hours to install FFXI.
Years and years of game data and graphics also equate to a large sum of files too (gigabytes worth).

The initial download after installing takes 10 hours easily depending on your service.

well. for example Battlefield 1 wich is ~60gigs took me around 30 min to download and install with my pc and internet.
this game wich is about 15gigs? took probably 8-10 hours.

That's because it does file-by-file which means the computer has to open a connection, download the file, and close the connection so you are losing most of your internet speed because of this.
It doesn't matter if you're on Dialup or 100MB/sec, a 5 kilobyte file is still downloaded in a split second, and the connection open/connection close still take about the same amount of time.
The best way that SE could fix this is update the Seekers Edition Download so that the files contained within aren't 5+ years old, so the user doesn't need to download 5 years worth of game updates and anybody looking to return could download the newest Seekers Edition from the website and it would actually be faster to just reinstall altogether.
That, and now that we have ONLY the PC version.. another thing they could do is looking into releasing .zip files that contain all of the changed files that users could download, and it would dump the files directly into a POL folder, run POL then POL just needs to take those files and put them where they belong for an update that only takes 30-90 seconds.

To be quite frank, the vw campaign doesn't do as much as you think it does.
drop rate is so low that capping lights doubles the drop rate, yes. but going from 1% to 2% is irrelevant.

I've always felt that developers say/do stuff like that to be intentionally misleading you into believing that something is better than it actually is.
They'll say things like "30% increased ____!!!"
And what they REALLY mean is "_____ increased by 30% of its existing value."
A lot of games do that, and it is annoying as all crap because they don't tell you which is which, and sometimes it really IS an increase of 30% but you assume it to be 30% of whatever the thing is, and end up NOT taking something that's actually good.
They really need to invent better language or terms or something so you can know what you're REALLY getting.

Eh, once you buy the game and pay the sub, they have no reason to mislead you about what in-game stats do. They already have your money by that point.

More, money. If you had any will power, you would unsub. It's about keeping you addicted. Not about telling you the truth.

You’re a moron. When they updated TH having an effect to high tier battlefield drops it included VW. So meaning unless you’re a idiot(you) bring a thf. I’ve gotten enough for 1.5 emp weapons worth of heavy metals per campaign.

You would've gotten exactly the same without the campaign. And welcome to ban town, you can't name call.

Oi.
You make us (me, and you included) sound like a bunch of people frothing at the mouth just waiting with baited breath for the next time we can log onto Final Fantasy XI of all games. lol.
In reality, it's the opposite, I try to find reasons to actually log on. I want to enjoy the game, but yet I'm running out of things I actually find interesting, that I actually want to do and will likely quit soon and I'm hardly the only player that feels this way. Lying to me about certain stats and the effects of certain things isn't going to make that any better.

Why would that matter? You've been banned/suspended from these forums many times, but you keep coming back.

IIRC, TH increases one of the light categories (red I think it was?) by 1% per level of TH. This means that during a campaign when all categories are capped to begin with, you should definitely be seeing a higher statistical droprate than just TH, and that Treasure Hunter does absolutely nothing when campaigns are up since it won't go over the cap...

This might be a bit controversial and by a bit I mean very, but why not have an event that dishes out just one RMEA weapon? I know a lot of folks here are pretty hardcore and have worked extremely hard for said accomplishments. One of the struggles I deal with coming back to this game, on rare occasions, is being useful to certain events or not being able to play a job I enjoy due to lack of gear. I am probably going to receive a lot of negative replies to this, but this is only a thought. Something like this would definitely have me return and play all the new content. Of course, SE should definitely reward those who have been faithful in their subscriptions.
Each time I look into playing the game and check the patch notes, I think about how RMEA's mattered so much in end-game content; this, right before I left the game some years back. And, yeah...having to play less meaningful jobs to obtain gear for my main, even though I would never get to enjoy that main in most party content isn't very appealing for me to return.

If it's a rare occasion then statistically it should be an issue.
I'm note sure how I can say this without stating the obvious, and therefore sounding rude, but..... How about you get some gear then?

Shouldn't*
I'm guessing with the lack of edit function, this thread (like most other GM threads) wasn't designed to be commented on.

I mean they could do this but they have like 3 people on their crew or something!

Can we please get a linen coin purse campaign? Maybe not directly 2 drops but a nice increase on a second drop? Really discouraging when you get all the way at the end of Salavage II and get a low ball lowend 50 pcs of alexandrite. Thanks.

Slow updates is an extremely common issue with FFXI. Please remove your head from the hole it's in.

Slow doesn't equal 10 hours. Yes it will be slow no matter what. But you aren't doing yourself any favors by making it even slower.
Between reformats and new computers over the last 4-5 years I've done 4 completely fresh downloads of the game into install and updates and none including across multiple computers including laptops have taken a over 5 hours start to finish. This has been with both terrible Comcast and way outdated modems which hurt and even once on slow as heck AT&T dsl ewww.
