View Full Version : Anybody having lots of lag/almost disconnects today?

So several times in quick succession, family member and I have been getting R0 and almost getting disconnected (going way down to 20-30%) but yet never fully DC'd. This never happens to us normally, and we're thinking that it could have something to do with Dynamis D, or something else going on SE's end.
So I'm posting here to see if anybody else (especially on Sylph) has had similar problems... if not, then I suppose I will need to reset the router/modem yet again, but it was just reset a few days ago, it shouldn't be causing problems (and the rest of our internet was fine even during the R0s).

it's really bad, im getting kicked about every 20 minutes, why should we be subbing a game that keep kicking you off?

It happened to me and most of my EU and SA friends. This is going on for days, but the past 30 hours it has been the worst. I don't only get the R0, i get kicked from the game completely. I am using PingPlotter to monitor the connection and from what i can see it is a server in the UK, that is causing these problems. Always the same hop that is going down with a packet loss to 100%. I hope that SE is able to get in contact with who ever is responsible for this hop.
Right now the only way to play and stay alive on the server is to use another service like wtfast and choose a different routing (for me the eastern route works fine). Posting a screenshot of the traceroute below.
Please help us SE.

It seems to affect players in different ways, some R0 down to a certain percentage, then recover, and others just DC completely. The whole of Jeuno red dotted in front of me at one stage.
Entering any kind of battle arena is highly risky (Salvage, Omen, HTB, etc). Making a good chunk of the game unplayable at the moment.
This has been on going for something like a week now?

Yeah there have been times where I myself begin to disconnect, then it catches back up. I haven't had it completely disconnect for me yet, but I'm afraid of that happening.

What is happening is really not on SE's end (and worse, there is nothing they can do about it). This last week, Level3 Communications has been having networking problems for like the millionth time in the past few years (and regardless of YOUR ISP unless you live in Japan or Asia, you are most certainly connecting through their routers since their infrastructure essentially forms the internet backbone), and neither FFXI nor FFXIV are the only MMORPGs or online services being affected by this.

I politely disagree. What if you are a customer and have a problem with services? There is nothing you can do about it? Just call and complain, that's what SE needs to do.
I am getting tired of it and if they don't fix it I might as well have the subscription canceled until they fix it.

odds are thou they are no more a customer then u or i are and if u don't pay them for there service they have no incentive to fix it.
edit in before u say u pay for ff 11 u need to pay Level3 Communications for u to have any right to complain... that said u probably don't so your issues don't matter to them.

Well, I pay almost $40 a month for the two accounts. I am one of the most valued customers SE has.

This is strange because I've played FFXIV, and had no connectivity problems.
I play WoW and have no connectivity problems.
I've played GW2 and have had no connectivity problems.
I've used a good number of websites and services, and only one has given me problems, and I doubt it was routing issues because they get DDoS'd rather often and they're slow anyways.
So why is FFXI having these problems, but yet none of the above are? If it were Level3, IE, the whole internet backbone, then you'd think that pretty much everything would be having problems like these.

Well, FFXIV, WoW, and GW2 have servers located in the US or closer.
All of FFXI servers are located in Japan. Therefore, they require that extra hop through the UK to get to Japan for the connection. :/

That's where you're wrong. FFXIV has not stopped experiencing disconnection issues (I'm on Balmung and I play all the time), I've known many players in GW2 experiencing them, Google.com has gone down quite a few times, Gmail has gone irresponsive quite a bit, I've personally seen GPlus itself bugged out repeatedly over its connections, PSN & XBL I've heard about several times, and I've countless people talking about disconnects elsewhere, but most importantly we're talking about intermittent lost in connectivity (that tends to result in disconnection in older MMOs like FFXI). Skype and Discord have also recently been experiencing such issues as well. In fact, do yourself a favor and look here: http://downdetector.com/status/level3

Square Enix is not a customer of the service I'm speaking of any more than you are or anyone else using the internet.
I'm not even going to argue you shouldn't drop your subscription(s), because it is a fact of economics that when you cannot access and play an online game you're subscribed to that it is a waste of money, just like you shouldn't go buy just anything at the store when they've nothing you want or need in the first place. But it's not something you should blame SE for or assume they can do anything about (and I'm saying that as someone that has had more than their fair share of issues with SE).
On that note, they actually did try alleviating the problems with FFXIV on a few fronts. The first time was when they implemented datacentres outside Japan (in their San Francisco building, when 2.0 came out). Players still had issues (EU players most of all), so eventually SE transferred their NA servers to Montreal in Canada (that was however long ago I've forgotten) and EU servers actually to Europe (or did they transfer any to Europe? I'm getting tired, so forgive me).
Yet neither have worked: many EU players will still play on an NA datacentre (for logical reasons like friends, and no one should be blamed for sticking with their friends) and in many cases they're having their connection routed down to places like Silicon Valley (despite the vast inefficiency), then you have many east coast players connecting... where? Yeah, again, through Silicon Valley;
connection between Silicon Valley, California & Montreal, Quebec... pretty much been R0ing and disconnecting all month. if there really is nothing they can do about this then i do hope they do something to make it up to all of us who can't do anything in this game for weeks now. or at least acknowledge that there is something wrong and inform us. very frustrating.

your right its not free. I'm sure our isp pay a price for usage... that said you probably don't pay them so what i was saying was to them our connection issues don't matter if u payed them DIRECTLY u might be able to get them to at least look into it.
also square enix is probably in the same boat as us. they cant make them do anything it is what it is sadly=P

Slight tip SE devs don't really read thru the random threads all that often especially the English side.
If there is something flat out not working with the game for you need to either post in the bug thread after reading the stickied post or contact them via chat/email. They can't fix the problem unless the people having it tell them. This is especially important if you are on a predominately non jp server (Like say Asura) as already mentioned the non bug sections of the English side don't get read often due to the amount of people they have at least when it's not an all servers thing like it is here.

Good job making assumptions. So typical of those that lack intelligence. (<--- I'm only repeating what you said; I don't normally say stuff like this otherwise)
I looked at the link you provided, it says "no problems at level3".
Google has not been going down for me, neither has Youtube, I played GW2 fine for several hours not that long ago, World of Warcraft's fine...
FFXI, however, is not. FFXIV is fine (played that off and on, hours at a time, no disconnects... but again I'm not on freaking Balmung), FFXI is not.
So yay. You jump to conclusions that I'm unable to employ some deductive thinking, and you somehow failed to read earlier how I said that these websites work fine for me, and FFXI is the only thing that hasn't been.
EDIT: And funny, I played FFXIV last week, logged in, did all my stuff just fine, did some dungeons, etc. I tried a few days ago to pick up login points, and.....R0 before I even loaded up. Went to another character, and got stuck at "Setting up PlayOnline Active Character" for 30+ seconds and almost timed out.

So all you have is personal, anecdotal data to rebute me, and you obviously didn't look at the link in full (let alone understand what I posted it for, like why not look at the comment section? you idiot). Lawl; I've assumed nothing, of course. Here are links to just a few previous outages:

That's how you reinforce your position, right? Call other people names. Yay.
And I used anecdotal evidence, because face it... when we experience bugs, problems, etc, our own experiences speak the loudest to us. Okay, you have had problems with GW2, Youtube, everything under the sun IIRC from what you've said in previous posts in this thread.
I have not.
Why again, would your problems be relevant to me? They're not. Nor do they prove that the cause of your problem is the same as the cause of my problem, in fact, it's strong evidence against it. If your Youtube, GW2, etc are disconnecting constantly, as is FFXI... and my Youtube/GW2/etc are working fine, but FFXI is DCing... you're going to blame it on a major internet backbone solely?
I'm saying there was more to it than just Level-3. Maybe your ISP also sucks, and that's why you had the YT/GW2/etc problems and I didn't? *Shrug*
But still, name-calling? That's what you have to do, to get anywhere in a conversation?

Ask yourself this: why do you conveniently ignore where I've stated I'm not the only one experiencing such problems (and in some cases, I don't even experience such problems)? Of course, I should've mentioned how I don't have just a single ISP (though I figured that went without saying since even the technophobic relatives in my family themselves have at least two different networks - home network & wireless network).

There's lots of reasons others might experience similar. Could be localized outages, could be ISPs, could be similar computing habits (loading computers down with lots of bloatware), could be lots of stuff.
I'm not saying that it Isn't Level-3 or anything, I'm just saying it seems awful strange that it is so spotty and intermittent... if a huge backbone goes down you'd think that a Lot of people would have outages on numerous websites and services simultaneously. I'm just not seeing that here?
I see consistent outages on -1- service and none of the others. You and a few others are saying it -is- multiple services, ones I've had zero problems with.
This leads me to believe that it's more than just Level-3, it could be a combination of factors.
