I think one of the main problems Dark is running into is, With all these massive power boosts lately to every job, The entire community is smacking up against soft and hard caps preset in the game. Back in the day when it took the best gear and buffs to get to these caps, dark had an easier time. Now any job can get more than enough combat stats to hit these caps. It makes job traits like atk bonus and things like high base str not really worth a damn.
I think these caps need to be reconsidered.
I mean its a great original design to have built in diminishing returns but when the player power naturally reaches the previously set point of diminishing returns it basically starts pooping on the job balance. And starts diminishing the value of gear, wich diminshes the desire to collect said gear.
Also scythe has consistently been given crap Weapon skills. Might be nice to give dark a WS with extraordinarily high cap for str and atk. Crit based WS doesnt have to be the answer to everything. A single big hit style WS could be good again if the mechanics were updated for these new tiers of power we are getting.

Guillotine was a good WS at 75.
Outside of Abyssea Quietus and Torcleaver both do really well, Torcleaver being the strongest of the two. My torcleavers average 2.3k outside of abyssea, higher if I am getting attack songs or DRK roll. I honestly have no complaints with Torcleaver or DRKs performance outside.
Its not that we don't have strong WS, its that we don't have a strong WS inside of abyssea.
I welcome the new content coming out because outside abyssea DRK isnt as bad as people make it out to be.
Thats not to say I don't want a buff, DRK has been neglected and even gimped by SE for far too long.
I would LOVE to hear an explanation from SE as to why they recently gimped Absorb-TP, and then make it exactly what it used to be with the "enhances absorb TP" on AF3+2 hands.

All i remember at 75 was doing 2-3k Dragon kicks and 2-3k drakesbanes and looking over at drks doing 800-1500 guillotines.
Not including the occasional souleater guillotine that broke 2k.
As for quietus and Torcleaver (not a scythe WS anyway), I didnt mean for this to be a thread about drk and WS's its just a comment i added in at the end. And 1 good one out of the bunch doesnt make my statement false. Scythe WS's are still consistantly crap.
As for drk not being crap. I agree. It isnt "crap". But its not wat it should be either. The reckless damage powerhouse is consistanly behind the curve. I believe its behind the curve because of the natural power of players growing into the preset line of diminishing returns. < this is what the threads about.

Every job is effected by these diminishing returns given to us by FSTR and other stats being auto capped inside of abyssea though. The difference being that they (crit jobs) are buffed severely by Razed Ruins, so you see much higher numbers than them than you would a DRK.
Only thing I am pretty sure you are not hitting the cap on constantly is attack, even with Stalwarts and Food hitting 999, on a big majority of things you are not hitting the attack cap. A strong majority of people don't realize that 999 does not = Capped Attack, people knew at 75 that this was not the case.
Also the Caps are not the same as they were at 75, FSTR for example is NOWHERE near the same cap that it was at 75, FSTR is determined by the base Damage of your weapon. I would not expect a 93 Damage scythe (Perdu Sickle) to have the same FSTR cap as a 128 Damage Scythe (Twilight Scythe).

Whereas every job is affected by it, They are not all affected in the same way. For some jobs it is a benefit. It holds back the strong melee jobs by giving them less value for their gear and job abilities. this allows weaker melee jobs to catch up.
Also as u stated 999 is not the cap. 999 has nothing to do with anything. The difference between your attack and the monsters defense is the important thing here.
And having a bigger window because of higher base weapon damage doesnt change much. Base stats and strong bonuses on gear outside abyssea. Prospector buffs and atmas inside abyssea.

I'm not honestly really sure what you want. Lets say they do remove the caps. Sure it will benefit DRK, but it will also benefit every other job keeping DRK exactly where it is now.
If anything it will benefit other jobs more, FSTR cap for other weapons is much lower than scythe.

hm in abyssea i once broke 3370 guillo with stout arm, regain, hp atma (thats with perle harberk ws) no ebody or twilight.. so i guess somethings wrong with the picture xD

The Scythe WS are crap because of the modifiers almost every Scythe WS has a MND modifier which honestly DRK does not use. Now if they changed the MND modifier to DEX or just removed the second and boosted up the STR modifier I think the WS would be pretty decent.

A decent WAR, not even a good one, can approach 5,000 with Raging Rush if Blood Rage is up.

i understand what gotter is meaning though,im no math wiz but given some of the maths behind things drks naturally high str an attack is starting to be overshadowed by other abilities. Im no uber drk, i use the below gearsets fer tp an ws an outside abyssea i can do about 2.2k guillys with just endark an last resort up, i have no assumptions that this is good or bad however as im the only ft drk in my ls and dont do much outside abyssea (this is on dc/em mobs)

bottom line is drks weaponskill selection isnt so hawt for our main non empy ws's and the job needs some workto bring it up to other dds, im lucky i 2box my own whm so my ls really has np with me coming drk to most things since i can cure myself an be self sufficent but this shouldnt be the deciding factor for any job
i'm envious. I dual box whm or brd and still have to come war -_- Damn ukon lol

Meh, i need 1 more bloody velo kill for 90 apoc (the major reason for my lack of using drk atm, I feel GIMP)and I just can't find any group doing glacier to get it. I'm even offering to buy the glass for the group entering <_<
Still caladbolg looks like a lot of fun, and jesus after glavoid plateau farming is a cakewalk). I see raesvelg in jeuno with it on his galka back. Looks pretty badass.
