Can't login to the game, for the "Welcome Home"

My square-enix account is active, but I do not have any characters active since I haven't played for a long time. I supposed to login for free for the next week. I want to see what has changed since I played for almost ten years.

Did you link your playonline account and your SE account?

When you log into your SE account and select your FFXI account, can you see any characters? (Even if it says inactive)
