View Full Version : Call for Official Poll/Petition for a Server Merge?

Hi,

I think it would be a good idea for players to have a say on this via a poll. Only people who can vote are those that are active/registered players.

My server is hitting numbers into the 200's now, even on the weekend. My weekend gaming experience in FFXI is pretty much non-existent.

289 people on Sunday, around 200 or so were 99's and the rest mules and multi-box. I wouldn't be surprised if there was actually 80 genuine active players.

Thank you

It's pointless. Considering the type of people that hound these forums, most players are turned off from coming here. They'd never know about it unless it was broadcast in-game, probably. And most players don't participate in forums anyway. SE claims that they don't do merges because enough people aren't asking for them, but a lot of people quit the game due to their low population servers which makes them rightfully believe the game is dead (though truthfully false), and you can't post on the forums unless your account is active... so..............

Plus there are some crazy whackadoodles out there that would have you believe those "actually 80 genuine active players" are overcrowding. Sadly, if you too don't want to quit the game over lack of population like myself and many others repeatedly have, you pretty much have to move to Asura. :) Bring your pals.

Then they could do that, as a login message, and point to the poll on the website.

Getting everyone to pay to move to Asura is not the answer.

But, it actually is, though I wish it weren't. Server merges were necessary YEARS ago and they still aren't here... It's sad that we as players have to rectify this issue ourselves (by throwing money at it, no doubt), but it really is the solution right now.

There are 16 servers. Out of 16, 2 of them are considered to NOT be low population. I'm not sure why that extreme imbalance isn't incentive enough to at least merge SOME servers. But it apparently isn't. We've been asking for merges for years. I'm not going to tell you to stop asking for em, but myself and others will tell you that we wish we had gone ahead and bit the bullet years ago.

And you'd be surprised by how many friends/LSmates who claim they won't or don't want to move quickly change their minds once they see you did it yourself. :)

The problem you're going to have is that most people that were annoyed about this fixed this issue themselves, many are OK with a small server.

What you're doing is being stubborn and refusing to take action yourself and instead insisting that what you want is what everyone on your server wants. It's really not.

A large number of players treat this game as a single player game with people to chat to, most people don't do group content anyway.

I think I made it pretty clear that I was calling for a public vote, which would decide what the majority of people want (not just me)...

When they last merged servers, what were the numbers like then? I'm pretty sure they were higher on the then merged servers than they are now.

I think it's a fair request to make, asking for an in game login message directing players to an official poll on their website, considering their last official statement on the server merge issue asked for a majority of players to support such an action and that is simply impossible on this or any other forum.

I'm all for server merges, whether it's just combining low population servers or going a more large scale route, but like others have said, I'd suggest anyone growing tired of their server's inactivity bite the bullet and transfer over to Asura. The dev team clearly doesn't think the situation is dire enough to warrant merges yet and their last official word on the issue should tell you all you need to know.

Based just on chatting to people in my own circles, I would say the vote would be a resounding "no" to compulsory forced server-migration. Everyone I speak to has chosen to stay on this quiet server, and are happy enough here. All my original friends from 2004 Remora are staying together on Leviathan, we party together and have a great time. Most of my friends from 2004 are Japanese, and don't seem to mind the low population on this server, they know how to do streamlined low-man runs, and they don't mind /shouting for members if they need to.

All my best friends chose to stay on this quiet server, and so they would poll "no" to server merges. Some of the most annoying people on my LS chose to move to Asura in recent years, which made me happy, because they were getting on my nerves anyway lol. Those people would probably have voted "yes" to server merges. But my actual real friends have stayed on this quiet server and are having as much fun as they always did. I would say the "no to server merges" people count for 95% of my friend-list / circles / LS members.

So just as a casual ground-level perspective it would probably be a "no" majority vote. I'd personally vote "no" to forced server merges, but "yes" to Automaton /lockstyleset Aht Urhgan fashion clothing, exotic pyjamas and bobble hats.

I wouldn't bet on it. At this point they are just waiting for the game to die.

I've recently moved to Asura and it's been thus far a great experience. People are always doing something. However I do know of the struggle you speak of because it was a wasteland on my other server. Maybe 250 at best throughout the week. Who knows how many of them were mules as well like you mentioned. I 100% agree with you my friend.

I would rather see world transfer service to be free than to have a server merger.
