View Full Version : NMs in Abyssea

This has probably been discussed ad nauseum, but I felt the need to bring it up again after several weekends of frustrating events in Abyssea. Many NMs are very capable of being low-manned with the appropriate build, and many kill fast; however, in particular, evasion-tank holding with NIN or THF (without appropriate damage support) and kiting techniques can take forever to bring a NM down.

Unfortunately, this severely delays properly equipped groups, particularly on AF+1 item farming. We are forced to wait while an ultra-slow group takes 15+ minutes to kill a monster, whereas our kills take 3-5 minutes. This is a very unsatisfactory situation, and should be adjusted somehow, though I'm not immediately sure what the best response would be.

Ideally the ??? should just be always available for any separate group, but barring that, perhaps a rage timer? Or a cap on evasion rates for NMs, but that seems a little cruel to NINs and THFs. Slow killing at the expense of a larger group should be fixed, but not evasion tanking in general. What are everyone's thoughts? To the developers, is there any plan in place to help adjust this substantial flaw in Abyssea (and one of the very few flaws, in my opinion)?

In those instances, my group usually just offers to help them kill the NM. We wouldn't take their seals from their pops, and they wouldn't take ours.

Definitely agree there should be something done to elevate the congestion. Hopefully by the time the update rolls out we'll see some better fixes but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm sure SEs fear is that people will build 18 pop sets, pop them all at once, and AoE brew them. If they did leave the ???s up 100% of the time they would have to come up with some limitations to prevent this. One would be to not let anyone in an alliance that has hate on an NM pop the same NM which is simple enough but people would pop out of party and then join. They would have to add some kind of limitation to prevent someone from joining a party with claim on a mob that they also have claim on. This seems more complicated from a programming standpoint but I'm no expert so idk.

If you`re going out to kill NM`s for seals then have a backup plan, this is the way our LS did runs back when we were still doing seals regularly. You cannot ever ensure that pop NM`s are going to be free. If the NM we first wanted was busy we`d find something else to do in the meantime. Don`t hate on the person soloing just because they got there first and are capable of taking down the mob solo.

As a BST there`s been a lot of things (and there still are things) that i`ll go out and solo. Good examples are farming up KI`s for Bukhis, and finishing up the last 1 or 2 seals for an item. For KI`s it`s perfectly rational to solo the NMs because the drop rate is actually quite high for KI without red proc.

As has been mentioned a good thing to do is ask people if they want to team up. If they dont want to then just move on, its simple. For myself, If im out solo in certain areas chances are I dont even need seals from the mobs that im killing.

Too much player hating comes from this `soloing is selfish attitude` IMHO.

I doubt it'd be common. People are already exploiting brews to get like 4-5 kills per 1 anyways.
