I can't seem to find any information on this, so I'll ask you guys. These weapons have some pretty crazy skill bonuses on them, but they don't seem to work quite how I imagined.

Most skill bonus gear slaps the bonus on top of whatever you have already gained. I have 200, and a +15 item, I end up with 215. Simple. These don't quite work that way, and this is oddly not mentioned anywhere. I'm sure I'm not the only one experiencing this oddity, so what gives?

I'm kind of a new returner, so all this higher level gear (99+) is new to me.

If you are talking about the skill bonus not showing on the Combat Skills menu that is a normal occurrence, just do a /checkparam on yourself with and without the weapons and you'll see the bonus to att and acc is working properly. Alternatively just check the attack values in the equipment menu changing when you equip your ilvl weapon.

The reason it doesn't display on combat skills had to do with dual wielding and how you could equip weapons with different skill ratings on each hand, and since the bonus only applies to each hand individually and does not stack displaying that variation was going to be a pain or something like that. But don't quote me on the part, it's been a very long time since they responded about it.

Raydeus is correct.

If you equip an ilvl weapon, notice how your Attack total goes up, it is displayed near the elemental bonuses on your equipment-grid. As your weapon skill rises, the attack rises.

However, it would be wrong to display the increased skill level in your "Combat skill" Character Profile Menu, because this would make it sound like you have f.ex Sword skill 640~ or w/e, when infact you have Sword skill 420. If you equip a level 99 sword in your dual-wield hand, and it has no ilvl stats, this sword will always have your base sword skill of 420~. This is your default base sword skill and it is therefor what you will see in the Character skills list.

However if you equip a sword with skill +242, you get skill total 662~ for that hand, so long as the sword is equipped. And you can see the immediate effect by checking the Attack number on the grid underneath the equipped weapon. Your accuracy and attack immediately goes up as if your skill has gone up by +242 skill levels.

The Character skills menu does show sword skill increases from torques, rings, earrings and AF etc.

But it is different with ilvl weapons, because of dual-wield, and people may start to think that they could equip a level one Onion Sword as their off-hand weapon and it would behave as though wielded with a sword skill of 642. I think the leaving of the Character menu skill as the base number excluding weapons, was intentional, and designed to prevent confusion.

The reason I asked is because some stats do show up. For example, on the eminent wand you have a parry skill bonus. White Mage, and most other mages, don't have parry by default and this one appears on the skills menu without fail. It's all a bit confusing, if I'm honest.

Weapon skill bonuses are the only ones that do not display in the menu (because they only affect that weapon and not both when dual-wielding, to keep DW from being TOO broken). All other combat skill bonuses show up correctly because it's always the same number, rather than differing depending on the hand swinging.

Ahh, and the penny drops. Thanks for making it as clear as a mothercrystal. I did check my stats using that /checkparam thingy too. It works like a charm. Never had that command when I left, so I'm guessing it's been added with all the other cool new toys I've been playing with.

I'm sure it has its detractors, but I personally love the new Trust system. It's been a blast fighting alongside Prishe once more!
