Name/Race change?

Can we finally change our characters names or races via a function in the Square Enix members website? ...or an in-game moogle NPC?

I use a go-to list of names when I server transfer or create a character and I'm tired of finding literally every word I can think of as an already taken name.


Can we just delete names if they haven't been logged in to FFXI in 5 years? (If someone does reactivate, have them change their name?)

I'm also looking forward to the mog bonanza but if I get a decent prize on my Taru mule, I'm going to be pretty annoyed.

I wish FFXI had something like this in place since day 1. An MMO I played in the 90's would erase names that didn't meet a certain amount of total hours played and went idle for about six months. Conversely, introducing a name/race/model change to the game could open up a small revenue stream if they attached a fee for the service.

There is no race change, no remodel, no name change feature. I really don't get why they don't add this, it's basically money for very little work. It doesn't even need to be automated, they could make it a manual process that is done on maintenance day. The feature already exists (at least for name change) since a GM can force you to change your name if they consider it breaking the tos.

I'm pretty sure they do release names after a long period of time, I've been able to take names that were previously unavailable. Just because they release them though doesn't mean someone else won't very quickly take them again.

Also I think they do release very old names but that they just don't say anything about it, I've been allowed to make names that were previously not available.

They don't. Names only become available if that person chose to delete the character or moved it to another server.
