Nexon is making a mobile version of Final Fantasy XI with Square Enix. Today, we get our first peek at the title.
According to Ruliweb (via tipster Sang), the game was shown today at the Nexon Developer Conference in South Korea. Note that the slides are titled Final Fantasy XI Reboot. The announced title is Final Fantasy XI Mobile.
Other tidbits gleaned from the presentation include that the game runs on Unreal Engine 4 and is in development for iOS and Android.
The final UI will most likely be different. As tipster Sang points out, the text says the current UI is simply a placeholder.
As previously announced, the game is slated to be released this year in North America, Europe, Japan, South Korea, and other regions in Asia.

>_> Hope it actually runs in bluestacks, unlike Grandmasters, which from what I found seems to not like AMD even though its clearly way more than enough to run it.
I know it'll happen, but I'm just afraid Nexon is going to run it into the ground, like they do with all the decent/good games they get :/

Everything about it is "nexon", disregarded.

I think we all know it's going to be horribly gutted.
Graphics look cute-ish, but that's about it.

Nothing, they will co-exist. Lots of mmorpg titles have mobile versions.
They are different demographics, so it doesn't really matter.

Lol I know the screen shots are blurry but I can see the enchantment's at first glance. The graphics are obviously upgraded, maybe not to that of FFXIV but the graphics are a big step forward from FFXI. And of course it looks cute it a Tarutaru . . . . . Gutted or not maybe they will fix some of the current issues we are having in game on the mobile platform I am still going to give it a try.

Desktop PC gaming and mobile phone gaming can exist side-by-side, the same way Tennis and Table-Tennis can exist side-by-side.
Nobody says that Tennis should be banned because everyone prefers to use smaller bats and tiny nets in Table-Tennis. They are different Sports, just as PC gaming is a different gaming experience compared to mobile gaming. They require different skills, they are different types of challenge.
I will always be a PC gamer, always have my PC hooked up to a bigscreen TV, and I will always use mouse and keyboard. It is just how I am wired, and able to enjoy my gaming experience.
But it is nice that other people can play mobile games if they want to.

Also it needs to be kept in mind that this is not a screenshot, it's a mockup image that was made in photoshop. The game is very early in development, there is no way these are actual screenshots. As such they are pretty much meaningless.

Those are actual screen shots of the game currently running on Unreal Engine 4, not Photoshop renditions.

Currently it is still in the early stages of development
I highly doubt they are, given it's in the early stages. Don't you remember those "early screenshots" of FFXIV that turned out to be photoshop creations? You can't put out real screenshots this early.
Here is the early screenshot of FFXIV, I think the term is "bullshots", as in fabricated images of what they think the game might look like (or just false advertisement if you prefer)

Unless you're playing on a calculator FFXIV 1.0 looked pretty similar on my screen to that screen shot. Nice monitor + impressive graphics card along with a nice processor will get you the speed and graphics you want out of your game. Well in that day it took a impressive graphics card to even run that game because the engine it was running on wasn't made for PC. The graphics on FFXIV: Reborn seem worse than the 1.0 version. But these FFXI pics don't really look photo shopped this looks like an in game presentation screenshot of someone playing it on a monitor with an overlay of Nexon or could possibly be a projection and not a monitor.

The point is, early stage of development cannot create accurate screenshots of a product.

The game was announced over a year ago and it's due for release over the course of the next 6-7 months. I'm as cynical as they come, especially where SE is involved, but those screen shots hardly scream "bullshot."

But those aren't touched up photos those are game play photos. It's like comparing apples to oranges. There have been no screen shots of the new FFXI just pictures of someone playing it as a demonstration in a conference room. When the game starts gaining more momentum, PR will definitely put out photo shopped pictures. And judging by those pictures the game already looks amazing at this point in development.

I guess we will see, keep in mind that this is Nexon, a Korean title and a mobile app to boot so don't expect very high standards of integrity.
Irregardless the article was released this month and says "FFXI Reboot is currently planned for release on both iOS and Android platforms. Currently it is still in the early stages of development" It doesn't even have a speculative release date yet.
If you are buying this at face value after all the things I mentioned then you aren't very cynical at all.

Oh, there's plenty to be cynical about, but you may be overselling those screen shots. It's a smartphone game, it's obviously not going to look like FFXIV, a 20GB+ game.

Even if it is Nexon, SE isn't going to be letting them pull the important strings just the minor ones.
