What kind of mount you would like to see on FFXI?

With Matsui's plans on keeping the game fun and interesting for everyone, and, as stated on the 'Freshly Picked Vana'diel 23 Digest', there will be mounts, we were able to see a raptor on the works.

Also they will receive suggestions from the players to make new mounts, on the Video a crab and a earthworm (lol) were suggested.

It's popular there and apparently takes minimal development effort, so they're taking the idea to XI minus the cash shop aspect. (I hope)

Actually, the one thing I want is the armored chocobos from wings of the goddess... I'm fairly sure we were promised them at some point but it never happened.

The amount of time required for different people varies. One department might invest dozens of man hours on a task and then hand it off to production who spends five minutes merging the necessary changed files into the build. THe thing is, you don't really know who did what or how much of an impact it had, and you're also crapping on people who may have actually wanted this feature. Just because YOU didn't want it, doesn't mean it was a waste of development resources. And I can understand, you're more of a practical type, and that's fine, but some people care a lot about customizing their character, including their appearance. Even though I've spoken many times on this forum about things I considered to be a waste of the developers' resources, I've come to realize that not every feature and change was specifically meant to enthrall every individual person with pleasure. That's fine. I think the whole gardening system was a waste of resources, but they still devleoped it and some people enjoy that feature. I can name lots of other things they've implemented that I didn't think necessary, but many of them benefitted somebody, so who am I to deny them that?

XIV requires more work for the 'same' content. More complicated models, effects, areas, better music, etc.

XIV team was split into 2, they have the content creators and the cash shop creators. Those cash shop cosmetics don't grow on trees.

Uh, no they havent. This new condensed team hasn't released an update yet (unless they had already made this change before the previous update was in full swing, im not 100% sure). And the previous slightly larger team released content by copying existing content, changing the monsters in it and putting it in a different area, and calling it new. I don't think you've ever looked at a patch notes for that other game... They've done a lot with their limited resources, but it's pretty ludicrous to claim th at they've released "more content" than that other game.

Buuut, I know you made this comment to troll me, so I'll be trying my gosh darn hardest not to let it go past here...

I will continue to use my chocobo that I raised many, many years ago. We have a special bond, she is my trusty steed, even though she runs slowly, she has a noble beak and very fluffy plumage.

I think it is nice for other people to have the option of novelty mounts, but I will surely not use them. I love my chocobo, and I love all other chocobos too!

One mount I will certainly never ride, is a raptor mount. I hate raptors. Twelve years of dealing with the "raptor pathing issue" [a far more serious issue than the beetle feet!] I have grown to loathe raptors. When I attack them, they turn sideways right-angle, and go round to my side. "You cannot see the raptor!" the game informs me, even though I was facing the raptor when I attacked it. I turn at right angles, to face the raptor again. It reacts by running at right angles around to the other side of me! "You cannot see the raptor!" the game informs me again, as I grind my teeth into dust.

So now whenever I see a raptor, I get the rage. When I battle a raptor, I always hit it a lot harder than is really necessary. There is real emotion behind my attacks!

So I will not be riding a raptor, and I hope that people who use the raptor mount for travelling, do not find the raptor suddenly changing direction and running at right angles!

:p Now just curious to reality to the tiger mount would actually buck you off riding it sideways with nothing really holding you to the creature/pet, only if this were the real world where gravity logic's actually played it's role to making you fly off the pet with no straps to be holding yourself in place but since it is the gaming world, well, guess we are dealt with the deck of cards to deal with it as it is. That's pretty much the reason why I'm going to move over to XI, don't really like what the dev team is doing with XIV, people on XIV's forums even saying how much they to spend money on mounts that are pretty much re-skins but that's another story.

Allowing us to summon our raised chocobos similar to how trusts are summoned would be a huge QoL improvement. The chocobo summon could be listed along with the other mounts. I am assuming of course mounts will be summoned like trusts and we won't have to lug around a whistle or a horn or whatever and it will all be managed via key-items.

I have an interest in large-to-huge mounts. With no offense to Camate, I am hoping for Behemoth or variants thereof. I am nearly complete with Monster Rearing, and being able to ride my Skormoth would be fun. In fact, many of the later creatures would be interesting. DRGs on Dragons with their Wyverns in tow would be an unusual juxtaposition, for example.

In that vein, perhaps some KIs could be purchased from Chacharoon? He hums specific tunes to the creatures, which we take down in our Astral Notebooks and use to get new mounts? Ideally, having the memento would give access to the mount KI so I/we wouldn't have to run a full round of rearing again.

I imagine, due to a precedent in programming, larger monsters would be limited to fewer areas akin to Monstrosity, and probably have their speed adjusted? I wouldn't be singing to Altana about it, but I'd understand.

I'd also include Hydra, Khimaira, and Cerberus types for consideration. While a lot of larger creatures would be more difficult to tame realistically, they'd bear a rider along more easily than I imagine a Raptor would.

Lastly, Darrcuiln of Seekers of Adoulin fame resonates we me as a wholly viable option.

The Yovra idea was wholly beyond even me. My compliments to the mount design lead (or whomever thought of it first). That sounds rightly terrifying especially to those who left the game ages ago.

I agree with this. NMs are supposed to be unruly one of a kind monsters. Having every other adventurer riding one around would make no sense.

Maybe something like "small Behemoth replica" or something like, but as far as full sized legit Behemoth and the like... no thank you.
