Admittedly i didn't read all of that blob-post.

Sorry you based your entire review of the game on wealth and material worth instead of content. You're really missing out.

The Game has changed, and most people agree for the better. It has its flaws, But its still expanding. Then again, With your attitude, Its clear you would no longer enjoy the game.

I won't go into more detail than that, I like my account, I don't want it banned.

You don't need 400milg to get the latest gear.
You need to play the game to get the latest gear.
I think you need to read up on whats changed before you can make such a post.

NB: If there is a training on how to create posts on forums, so that people will be inticed to read it, I suggest you go find it and follow it. This wall of text is just horrible.

First of all, I struggled really really hard reading through all that. You really need to use paragraphs. :(

But yeah - you aren't the only one whose top notch gear's been outdated and/or made (nearly) worthless. Hell, I paid around 16 mil to finish my Ares Cuirass - today those Imperial Wootz Ingots sell for between 45-50k each. I paid 28 mil for Dusk Gloves +1 - they now sell for less than 3 mil at the AH. Am I bitter? Nah. It's pretend money after all!

And as others already pointed out - you do NOT need 400+ mil to pimp out your character. You barely need any gil at all, in fact. The vast majority of the best gear available is ra/ex, all you need is a bit of time and preferably a few good friends to do stuff with.

Taking into account that this is a game versus real life, 1 Year In Game is probably equivalent to about 10 Years IRL. So, imagine leaving somewhere and coming back in 15 years. People are gone, buildings are gone, your favorite restaurant closed and 3 other businesses have been in that spot. It's pretty funny to think that the game would go on hold for 1 and 1/2 years while you were gone. Yup, we all sat around and waited for your return. So, yes, all your gear is not the top anymore. But, every experience point and merit you got is still there. So, you can come back and continue or you can decide that it isn't worth your time to catch up.

Actually, I was referring to the fact if i went into further detail, I would likely Insult said person for being a complete moron and basing his entire perspective of the game based on how much gil his gear is worth, rather the all the new content since he quit.

And i don't wanna get reported for cursing his idiocy back into oblivion :X

I think you should take it a bit further. They should have all jobs stay at level 1 with only 1 set of gear. That way we never have to worry about losing value of what we worked so hard for.

Sound ridiculous? As did this post...

i took a few months off before i joined ffxi again. off before abyssea came out and started again right after the release of Heros of Abyssea. so needless to say when i came on and saw all my gear, it was all crap! the Teal Saio set beat the crap out of my gear that i worked so hard on. Having a 75blm and 75whm was no longer impressive because everyone leeched in abyssea... but you know what? its a welcome change.

getting all the noobs to level90 easier really makes FFXI a game of skill instead of a game of a game ruled by basement dwellers with too much time and gil buyers.

also, if all your gear is crap, tough luck on you. abyssea gear is pretty much free if u have friends. Gil is just not that valuable anymore. so screw off with the greed and enjoy the game, instead of focusing on virtual wealth

As far as walls of text go, this isn't that bad...it's just not an interesting read.

Most of what the OP is complaining about is stuff we've heard a million times already (new content is ruining the game, all that stuff I worked for is meaningless, blah blah etc.), and I don't know why he's posting his farewell here. If you want to leave, say goodbye to your friends you play the game with and cancel your account. You don't have to publicize your departure for people who've never played with you to see.

That said, sorry you don't have fun playing this great game anymore, and goodbye.

I bought a mezraq and a thalassocrat about 2 years ago. Combined value at the time= about 1.5 mil
Combined value as of about 3 weeks ago = 20k

Live with it, get over it, move on with it. Yesterdays elite high lvl gear is today's elite "halfway there" gear.

I have a story. I was once level one. I got to level 10. I changed my gear. I got to level 24. I changed my gear. I got to level 50 and had changed my gear a few times in between that as well. I got to level 65 and spent alot of money on gear. Then I got to level 75. I spent alot on gear! I got to level 90. I bought more gear! From this pattern, I think it's safe to say that in MMO's you may have to buy gear. I think that should be a warning on the label or something. Evidently this guy didn't expect that and it's ruined the game for him. Darn SE and their tricky ways. Making people level and having to buy gear when the previous is obsolete. WOW or no other MMO makes you do that! Oh wait...

Was he planning on committing suicide when the game ends since all his "hard work" of pressing keys (using controller, whatever you play on), is deleted?

Since I'm bored waiting for some real life stuff, I'm gonna take a stab at editing this so I can read it then possibly reply to it.

:(:mad:Now, lets see if I can get this right...Kept hitting enter doing an incomplete post, sorry all.

As I was stating I had to leave the game about one and a half years ago due to severe real life issues. I tried to check in on ffxiah etc., to see what was what.

When I left I had about twenty million Gil and about two hundred fifty worth in gear...last I checked the AH tanked and most of my stuff has become worthless:mad:

Why in the world would SE take their long time players(not from the start of the game but close to it) and screw them out of all they had worked so hard for all these years?

I found it insulting and disgraceful that after approx. six years of hard farming, camping NMs, crafting etc. has all gone to waste. If I returned now I would feel as if I just begun the game again, having to try and make over four hundred million just to get some decent items.

So many long hour's, weeks, months, years farming and abiding by the game law's...my gear may as well be level one. How do you treat your long time, non-cheating, hard working, always helpful player-type people with such disdain?

A high quality stave? They were approx. two million. Now? Twenty thousand. The same can said about the once considered "best" equipment. I will never be able to sell and get back what I've earned to comfortably get back into FFXI...

Just wanted to see if I was the only one who got hosed like this...

If I was running this company, all my long time players (even the ones that had to leave for extended periods of time), would be treated with respect and honor. I guess I'm just old fashioned...

The idea of this type of game is to work hard for long periods of time. To get items others can't just buy for millions of Gil, they'd have to spend a thousand dollars in real life to get enough Gil to attain, and keep that nice item your good players worked so hard for.

Below here in bold I'm not sure what the heck you're trying to say.

If that meansadding stats to it based on time invested in game, invested in helping others, farming, crafting etc....and allow them to upgrade their favorite gear/weapon/item with item they can easily get,but people that never help, use others, buy gil, and get non-stop PL,have to take 3-4yrs to get. That's how you keep your best player's intrested in your game, and involved even after the next mmo ffx?*
game comes out....not by screwing them outta all they worked hard to get by letting market tank, and making lvling, obtaining items and upgrades hella easy.

Hell maybe I'm the only person that feels this way, but I don't think so...I hope you (developers) will read this (DOUBTFUL) and see why you've lost so many of your best players by keeping the users and abusers. When the new Final Fantasy comes out you can bet your once most loyal fans will be weary about returning, I know I'll most likely stay away.

Thanks though, for letting me vent why I have permanently left the game. Besides, I have real life conditions.

If any of my old friends read this take care Siren BIA members: Syd, Allby, Myk, Pan, Ceau, Milk & Hubby, Albrecent, Eld, and any others I forgot to mention. Hope your lives go well and are blessed.

Happy gaming and God bless.

So translation I think is:

He's upset because everyone who's anyone can get everything he worked so hard for in little to no time at at all. All his stuff is worthless (no ones fault since it's player set prices, you didn't have to buy). Not rewarding the long time supporting players also seems to be a factor.

The only reason I still play is to spit at the player base and what it's basically become.

Otherwise, it'd be like Magic the Gathering was about a decade ago, where cheating (in one form or another) made people a lot of money.

And when people tried to call them on it, we were openly accused of destroying competitive Magic. (Not to mention that many of the top players were cheating their asses off.)

Of course, the fact that some players could afford an item costing millions of gil, obviously means everyone that ever did that, broke the ToS by botting/buying gil. All of us. Without a doubt. No other explanation possible.

Don't think you played the game for the last 5 years, do you ¿ Sky gear - MOSTLY rare ex, salvage gear all rare/ex, limbus gear all rare ex, sea gear all rare ex (except ... AV drops lol) , Nyzul gear rare ex, VNM gear mostly rare ex and I think I'm forgetting some. Abyssea changed thing but It definitely didn't change the best gear from buyable to not buyable. If you sticked to non rare ex gear back in the day I'd say you were pretty average and nowhere close to having "top" gear.

This is the 2nd time in the games life stuff that was expensive is now dirt cheap. During inflation I farmed my ass off to get a Hauby which at the time was around 5mil got it eventually but after leaving the game for awhile it was only worth 400k-600k. Another case I bought Moliones's Syther and ring for around one mil again left the game for awhile and guess what was worth only around 200k and now combined they are worth maybe 40k.

My point is you can leave the game for a few months or years and the price of stuff will NEVER be the same as it was when you leave. At first yeah I was a little PO'd but got over it quickly. Also now gil really is not all that much part of the game at higher level.

Ok I've posted here a couple times now but I feel a real life analogy is needed.

According to the OP's logic: I go out tomorrow and buy a $32,000 2011 chevy impala with all the bells and whistles. I have worked for 3 years to earn enough money to buy it. I hang on to that car for 10 years, I've loved it, paid it off and just taken really good care of it. All the while 20 different models of that car have been released over the same time period. In 2021 I take my car in for trade and find out it's value is now 6x less than what I paid for it. According to the OP's logic I should be mad at the manufacturer because they released new models with newer better stuff which caused the demand for my model to drop thereby causing it's market value to depreciate.

My car is still good, it's just the market value for the model that changed because newer stuff came out.

Well to the OP I say this, welcome to real world economics in a video game format. It's pretty foolish to expect values of items to remain the same when new things come out. That's just how it is, but by your logic I should be mad at General Motors for releasing newer models that made mine obsolete, rather than blaming a market that demanded newer models. Think about that one for a bit.
