View Full Version : "Hide" option for active spell list or..?

I manually scroll through my magic list very often; As a GEO and SCH, I don't have the space on my macro bar to macro every spell that I need to use. Along with that, I've learned a ton of magic that I've never actually used such as miscellaneous Bar-spells or even -na spells... having a WHM Trust NPC around pretty much allows me to never cast such spells.
When I'm scrolling through my magic list to find the spell I'd like to cast, it usually takes me an inordinate amount of time to find it because I have to scroll and jump all over the place. Needless to say, I spend a lot of time just trying to find the spell I want to cast.
Can a feature be implemented to "hide" spells from your active spell list? Being able to hide spells that I never use would be helpful and a time-saver. Of course, you could always just manually type it in as a /magic command (since you actually know the spell) or "unhide" it from your active spell list if there was some situation where you needed the spell again.
Alternatively, if that's not possible, could you just add an NPC that makes you forget spells you've learned? I've learned every Bar-spell and -na spell, but I honestly don't think I've actually casted them... ever. Again, the WHM Trust NPCs are usually infinitely faster than I am to cast such spells. There's no point, to me, of even knowing the magic anymore. They've added a NPC in a very old update that makes you forget that you ever completed your AF quests, so I know it can be done.
It's an odd request, but it's something I notice that happens to me every time I do anything in the game.

why not just "Manually sort/store your spells you use the most to the top of the list; therefore you don't have to scroll them them all. ^^b

I guess that is a valid option, but the anal retentiveness in me is seething. It just keeps saying, "Make the spells you never use go away forever."

Could a Community Rep please weigh in on this..? I saw this posted by Grekumah:
The development team is planning on changing the auction house in a way that adjusts the listing time and transaction fees in the upcoming November version update.
I mean no offense by this, but if you have the time to implement something like this (something that I've seen literally nobody ever talk about... correct me if I'm wrong), could you maybe throw my meaningless request in there, too? At least there's one person who wants it. :)

Empty auction houses have been brought up many times.

I'm sorry, but how exactly is adjusting listing times and transaction fees going to magically make more inventory appear on the AH? You're describing a problem that is systemic of a server that has a dwindling population. Try not to derail my topic anymore, please. I'm free to voice my wishes on here as much as the next person.

The only reason for adjusting the AH would be to increase usage. We won't know what effect it actually has until they tell us what the adjustments are.

You are the one who posted a quote from another thread and then invited more conversation on it when you said "correct me if I'm wrong".

When did I imply otherwise?
That said, I don't think your idea is a bad one. I do think it's unlikely to be implemented due to limited use. You're better off sorting them how you want them.

Things vanish from the auction house within 3 days from listing if not sold. If you extend that time, there will be less unsold merchandise vanishing from auction. It works better for items that don't sell particularly fast.

You are correct on all counts. Sorry for being hot-headed.

Would love for a Community Rep to bring this to the attention of the Development Team. Or just acknowledge this in general.

We have no plans to add a feature that would allow players to “hide” spells or abilities.

I'm pretty upset that most of our requests (99.9% of which were reasonable) got thrown out so that THIS could have the undivided attention of the Dev Team:
"The movement of the front right legs of beetles has been increased."
Really?

What gets me here is that three people 'liked' this, just another example of people saying NO to something they see no use for in spite of the patently obvious fact that the console-based menu system, in FFXI is horrible and the spell list is the worst example of it due to the bloat of spells over the years.
Manual sorting is NOT the solution as someone said, the list is still vast, it needs SOMETHING DOING. I never understood why each mage 'school' wasn't it's own menu, but I get PS2 limitations were the reason, as usual.

Don't want to be or mean to be rude, if i'm being rude, sorry in advance but Just think what it will be like after they removed limited based systems such as consoles from there ffxi game? I'm just hoping to see the improvements to such a game as FFXI after this fact since i'm one of those players to no longer being on a console based system with its high limitations people just don't notice/realize about them or realize that those consoles have more limitations then easily noticeable to the human eye/mind.

If ya picking spells from the list you're doing it wrong!?... This is why they made macro for! ^^;
I mean how hard is it to; /magic "spellname" <stnpc> or <stpc> or <me> and <t> and <st> list goes on.

I'm positive on this but since it's been a while Krash i'll just ask you to confirm this macro select targeting method is another one and that it's correct as well! :-P Okay Krash there is also one to select party members by the numbers in this way correct!?~> <p1> = player party member number 1, <p2> = select party member 2, <p3> = select party member 3 etc. or am I typing it out just a bit wrong/off to do it that way? Thanks for the reminder and to let others know of this method too in advance!! :D

It is correct that you can use <p1> <p2> etc, but I find that to be unnecessarily clunky, requiring six macros for one ability. Instead, you should use either <stpt> or <stal> for healing depending on your group size; when using a macro with that target, it will create a cursor down at your party list for you to indicate who you want to heal by pressing enter. Or whatever controller inputs are. <stpt> specifies your party even in an alliance and will only wrap around in your party list, while <stal> will allow you to go through the whole alliance list. I prefer <stpt> because if I"m on healing duty, I'm usually only in charge of my party.

Yeah, I totally agree with that on it being created in more macro's needed to do it for one spell which in my past experience I knew players who would set it that way claiming it's faster but I myself had always wondered how it could be faster and just don't see how <p1> etc. is faster when you have to basically set a ton of macro's for that one spell to all players in the party list or alliance list over in that sort of way. Anyway's was giving another macro example and thanks for illustrating it even further like I had hoped, Thank you! ;-)

Really?Well, it is a glitch that's been in the game for its entire existence....
Also, you're not "doing it wrong" by using the menu. I use a combination of both macros and menu commands. I really don't want to make a macro for every one of the hundreds of spells, plus the macros to switch sets/bars/whatever. So especially for the spells I don't use as much, I have my menu arranged in a very spcific way, so that the spells I use most in this fashion are one or two taps of left or right away.

I support a hide spells function or NPC to forget magic. I just recently started playing again and my spell list is already getting bloated. :/

Exactly my point. This is an issue and I think the Dev Team needs to reconsider their position.

Right; if we are using mouse, keyboards, and gamepad and still find it clunky, then what is going to happen when they make the iOS/Android ports? People are going to hate scrolling through those massive lists to find a spell, then accidentally tapping the wrong one! Lol! Oh the frustration!

There are those who will yell or tell you to just use the macro's for the spells..... lol!

The interface for FFXI mobile is likely going to be very different, and they don't have to keep every single spell and ability in the game. It's not likely to be a 1-to-1 copy of PC FFXI, which is why it's starting with less content and not sharing servers.
