View Full Version : The Great Bug Fixing of 2015

Good day, everyone,
As you know, the final chapter in Rhapsodies of Vana'diel will be coming in a short time, and I'm excited beyond belief to help bring the conclusion of Iroha's saga to you. I hope you're also waiting with bated breath to learn what will happen next (trying to stay spoiler free here...)
With that said, I know that there are those who are going to come back in November specifically to experience the storyline in its entirety, and I'm making it my personal mission to make Vana'diel sparkle for their arrival.
And so I'd like to enlist your help. I know that there are some outstanding typos, bugs, and oddities with in-game text, and I'm working to root them out wherever I can. But there's a limit to what the team and I can accomplish on our own while continuing to translate and fulfill our other XI-related duties, so I'd like to ask for your help.
If you encounter any issues with text (unclear explanations, typos, and the like) or anything with naming that doesn't make sense ("Hey, Unelonborro, why are there two Bouncing Berthas?") please report it in this thread!
I cannot guarantee I'll be able to get to everything, especially once we get closer to the November release, but I'll be damned if I'm not going to try!
Regards,
Unelonborro

("Hey, Unelonborro, why are there two Bouncing Berthas?")
Actually why are there 2 Bouncing Berhas? Why is one a lizard and the other a chapuli!

As of September, there will only be one Bouncing Bertha! I've renamed the Wanted NM.

While you're in the area Unelonborro, I noticed BouncingBertha parries attacks "...with his weapon." (The BST jugpet Bertha)
It should probably be "her."

Someone has told me that if they are on BLU and swap their spells on floor 5 of Arrapago Remnants II so it is in the process of cooldown where you can't use blue magic, if he then goes to use the teleporter, it moves him straight to floor 7 and he said he was able to recreate this so has done it twice.
Does that belong here or does it need it's own bug report?

Here you go making Vana'diel sparkle again Unelonborro! Thanks for this. The one that springs to mind is:
Enlightenment
Ophannus created a thread about it here (http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/45671-Enlightenment?highlight=enlightenment). The description says it optimizes both white and black magic capabilities, but it actually doesn't. It only gives access to one addendum spell. The word "Optimizes" is used in the description of Light Arts and Dark Arts. We assume the word refers to the decrease in casting time and MP cost of the associated spells, neither of which are conferred with Enlightenment. I think most SCHs would be elated if the ability were changed to fit the description, but if that can't happen I'd be happy with a fix to the text.

I'll see if I can get this changed, but changing gender pronouns involves touching a part of the program that I don't have access to.

That's...really specific, and unfortunately not something I can fix on my end. He's better off reporting the issue to the GMs so it can make its way over to QA.
Although, on the topic of blue magic, one time I was checking blue magic names for overflow and discovered that if I use debug commands to change my job to BLU while not in a Mog House, I'm unable to set blue magic until I zone. The more you know.

I agree with you that the help text is a little weird. Here's what I've tentatively changed it to.
"Allows access to both addenda for your next spell, regardless of whether you are under the effect of Light Arts or Dark Arts."
Does this better capture the ability, or is there another way you think it should be worded? Definitely open to suggestions here.

1) "Terpsichore's description is wrong (the I~V after Augments Steps needs to be removed as the step augment doesn't change)"
and
2) "The description for every "Chance of additional effect" WS is misleading at best. What it means is that magic accuracy increases with TP, which may actually have no impact at all on the odds the additional effect will proc."
- Byrth
#1 may actually be a bug. Regardless of the augment level, it always gives 1 extra finishing move.

Puppetmaster reforged 109 and 119 Empyrean legs are called "Karaggoz", should be "Karagoz" (single g) like the rest of the set.
Summoner reforged 119 empyrean legs miss the "+1" in the description. They have the same name as the 109 version. (this only happens in the full description of the item. In the menu they have the right name)
Pretty sure there was another description/name from reforged armor that was wrong but I can't remember which now...

Is there a policy with FFXI where some additional effects are intended to be obfuscated from players? I have just started playing FFXIV and I know it's a separate game but it seems many of the conveniences/quality of life concepts FFXI is getting lately are inherited from FFXIV. That being said, would it be iconoclastic to have more transparent tool tips like FFXIV's does, where's there's no ambiguity of secondary effects? This isn't to say that the bonuses/potencies/properties should be listed, but at least MAJOR effects could be listed or more descriptive. The logic behind this is, many abilities have non-obvious attributes that are WELL KNOWN, and for newish players these might not be obvious. Additionally, some attributes were added to existing abilities but their help text were never updated to reflect the change (i.e. Cover reducing enmity of a target party member).
High Jump (Currently)
Performs a high jumping attack on enemy.
High Jump (After)
Performs a high jumping attack on enemy. Additional Effect: Reduces the target's enmity towards you.
Super Jump (Currently)

Not sure what to make of this but, Gendewithia body has an oddity in that you see "Gendewitha bliaut +1" when you hover over the item, but the item itself says "Gende. Bilaut +1" Why does it change from Bliaut to Bilaut?

This sounds fine to me! That's all the base ability does as far as I'm aware.
It looks like I was wrong about the current effects of Enlightenment. When I activate it naked now, it not only provides access to all addenda spells, it also raises all SCH's native magic skill levels to the levels they would be under their corresponding arts. Swapping between arts while Enlightenment is active has no effect on my skill levels. When enlightenment wears, I can see all skills opposite of my current arts drop. I can't find documentation of this on either major wiki. Was it changed at some point? Can anyone else confirm this? I'm just looking at the skill levels listed in the menu.
In any case, I still think the Optimizes text is misleading, or at least inconsistent with the Light Arts and Dark Arts descriptions. They both contain the "Optimizes" sentence, then go on to list the magic skills that are increased. So I assume the first sentence refers to the reduced casting times, recast times and MP costs, and Enlightenment is definitely not providing those right now.
So perhaps to be complete and consistent, the Enlightenment description should be something like: "For your next spell, allows access to both addenda and grants a bonus to divine, healing, enhancing, enfeebling, elemental and dark magic."
Ophannus
08-31-2015, 10:46 AM
It optimizes 'skill' but it doesn't optimize MP cost, cast speed, recast, or let you use strategems from the opposite art. It would be really cool if it did, since then it would almost hearken to SCH being somewhat of a 'Sage' (http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Sage) job, having mastery of black and white magic, but only under Enlightement/Tabula Rasa.

This isn't exactly a localization issue, but the scrolling text when you highlight the afterglow icon after receiving the effect from a party member (in the case I saw, the effect from Scourge when a party member with with an afterglow Ragnarok uses it), repeats the word "effect" twice. So the text reads "You are benefiting from an afterglow effect.effect."

Bug, not sure if it follows with the threads theme but:
When you augment gear or weapons, they are returned to you and placed at the bottom of your inventory. When you augment an Alluvion skirmish equipment (like Taeon boots) they aren't moved to the bottom of your inventory and they stay where they were. Kind of annoying because when I augment something I like to do it multiple times due to bad augments. Having to manually move it to the bottom or constantly scroll to where it is in trade is annoying.

Might as well bring this up, quite a blast from the past: Ulrich is referred to as Volker's Grandfather in some of the Bastok Missions. The specific lines are:
5-1 Darkness Rising
Lucius: Ulrich, Volker's grandfather--and the captain of the Mythril Musketeers at the time--led the Bastokan contingent of that expedition.
5-2 Xarcabard, the Land of Truths
Cid: He admired his grandfather a lot...that's why it pained him to hear people say that Volker, himself, only became Captain because Raogrimm was gone.
I've always wondered if that was simply a translation error, or if it's something confusing like Volker's uncle and grandfather both being called Ulrich or something.

This isn't really a "bug" per-say, but it's something that's been bugging me for a long time now (no pun intended).
The item, Dunna, reads:
Damage taken by luopan -5%
The item, Geomancy Mitaines +1 (for example), reads:
Luopan: Damage taken -11%
Is there someway that you guys can change the non-uniform text descriptions of equipment like this so that they match up? It's hardly an important issue, but it's driving me batty. The Dunna should read:
Luopan: Damage taken -5%
Another example, the Lifestream Cape, reads:
Enhances "Fast Cast" Effect
But we all know it's "Fast Cast"+7%. Why doesn't it say that? There's so much equipment in the game (a lot of it is from the earlier years of the life of the game) that has the ambiguous ol' "Enhances" or "Augments" prefix that doesn't help anyone figure out anything about how the article in question is being enhanced or augmented.
Please save my sanity and fix it.

Hi everyone!
Today is the last day that I can make changes for the November patch, and I've gone ahead and fixed everything I could. Some of these I was unable to, particularly those related to intentional ambiguities in item help text. There are a couple reasons for this, the biggest among them being whether or not it would be worth it for the devs to spend their limited time combing through nearly 14 years worth of items to adjust all the help text. In an ideal world, we could, but we feel our time could be better spent bringing you new content.
If there's anything else you want me to fix, let me know and I'll sneak in what I can.

Here is my question Unelonborro.
While being on my YoGoRock character wearing The Botulus suit +1's I obtained from the Halloween Costume Judging contest event and upon using the Dispense: Gooey Love enchantment, it Gave me a ring called: Caster's Ring. Now my question is this ring really an existing game glitch or bug for armor on the fingers area of rings because it has no stats/text of stat's except for Showing and Saying: Caster's Ring, Rare/ex, below it is [Ring] All Races and below that is blank space and below that is Lv.1 All Jobs.
Now my next question would be why would such a ring exist when there is really nothing to it into having it inside the game especially in the ring slot where it doesn't show up for appearances on your character's body Like gears in the head, body, hands, legs, feet slots would appear.
While writing this article peice on the ring I do recall I've received this ring once before on my blondelle character years ago, I believe even before the ffxi forums came into existence for us ffxi players to turn to but the thing I remember even though I don't recall How I came across to receiving this ring at that time, I do recall asking around such as members in the ls groups I was in and people around the server I played on asking them if they knew anything about this Caster's Ring I had obtained and None knew nothing about it, never even heard of it, and never had seen it before, didn't even know what it might be for, in which I believe I came to point where I ended up just tossing it out since it just seemed to be a piece of circular medal junk that basically looked like a copper ring, just taking up space in my storage or inventory slots that be more useful for space for other item's always seemingly to be tight on space as I always mostly was while on the server playing the game. :o
"Now you may be not able to actually anything about this but if you can't, Can you pass the word onto those that can look into it seeing what's up wiith it or if its a real glitch/bug of piece in the game or not Unelonborro-???

There's a small inconsistency with the item Sokushitsu Sune-ate.
Can compare it with other items which have the same effect:
Anchorite Gaiters
Anchorite Gaiters +1
Bhikku Gaiters
Bhikku Gaiters +1
Shukuyu Sune-ate
All these items increase the base damage of "Kick attacks" by the number close to the stat.
The item calle Sokushitsu sune-ate only says "Kick attacks +85" instead of "Kick attacks attack +85" like every other item of the category, leading to thing it might be something different, whereas it's the same exact effect.
I've personally tested it, and if my test isn't proof enough, the japanese description of these items is the same for all of them.
I'd like to see this fixed.
Honestly, if you ask me, the most accurate description would be "Kick attacks damage +XX" or "kick attacks +XX".
Writing "Kick attacks attack +XX" (which is the literal translation of the japanese text) can be a bit misleading, because it leads you to think it grants a +XX attack bonus to kick attacks, when they get executed. Which is wrong, because this stat doesn't give an attack bonus, but a base damage bonus.
Regardless of my personal consideration, it would be good if all these items could have the same description, whatever you may decide it to be, anything is fine as long as it's the same for all of them.

I hope the afterglow effect text mistake gets fixed; not that it affects me personally all that much, but it's a pretty glaring error.
Yeah on that quest but fact is it still remains basically a junk ring still to hold, am I right?
Back in the early days of the game, before they actually made it possible to pay for a wedding ceremony and get official wedding rings, those quest reward rings were a way for players to sign their names onto something and exchange them with their in-game "spouses", making them into "wedding rings" of a sorts. The gooey love enchantment seems to create any number of love related items (I've gotten wedding bells and red roses the two times I tried), so it kind of makes sense that these rings can also be a reward.
I have a bug report to file. Attempted to fix this on my own however to no avail. Error code FFXI 3001. Main char Silversan is stuck in misurex coast.
I understand you're desperate for any kind of help, but this thread is for reporting localization errors (such as mistakes that occurred when the Japanese text was translated over to English). I'm not sure the dev who watches this thread can help you with what seems to be a glitch specific to your account or your system. You may need to actually call phone support, especially if the GMs in game haven't been able to help you. Otherwise, try reporting this as a bug in the bug thread, with more detailed information on how it happened.

A friend of mine is unable to progress further in 2 different story arcs, SoA and RoV, both missions require her to speak to the same npc, for a CS - which she is unable to trigger either of them. Her mission log for SoA is Undying Light and for RoV is Tears of the Generals. We've read the post about not being able to progress, She was on the Hades Fight at the time she got to the Tears of the General mission, so we beat Hades, she got her CS was ejected to Ceizak, and got a cs when she ran back to Western Adoulin - but Ploh will not talk to her or give her any new dialogue. So at this point, she's unabl to pick a ring for her final reward, or complete RoV, it's very frustrating, has anyone come across this, or know a fix. GM response would be nice.
