The inclusion of backward compatibility for Xbox One presents a unique opportunity for FFXI Online.
I am aware that the idea is to shut down the servers for Xbox360 next year, but that decision was made before Microsoft's surprise announcement this year at E3. Since Microsoft is footing most of the work for making titles play on their new console, why not cancel the shut down for Xbox360 and instead rebrand FFXI Online for release for XboxOne players? Add a free download to the Microsoft store, and you might attract all the players hungry for good MMO content in an otherwise limited selection.
Keep the 360 servers going and use this opportunity to Bring FFXI Online to a current gen console for free!

It has absolutely nothing to do with Square Enix. SE doesn't run "Xbox360 servers". If you want to play on Xbone, petition Microsoft.
Or, you could spend less than half the money you spent on the Xbone to get a PC capable of running XI and stick it under your TV.

*rolls eyes* Ok... Cue the needlessly callous responses from folks wanting to tell others how to spend their money...
Instead, how about I KEEP my XboxOne. I'd actually prefer that the money I spent on my X360 copies of FFXI doesn't go to waste when the 360 version becomes useless in 8 months.
Oh... and if SE doesn't "control" the FFXI servers, then is it just a coincidence that the PS2 and Xbox360 servers will be shutting down on the same day? Why did Square make the announcement and not Microsoft?

It's not really up for debate. SE has explained this all on these same forums.

I never told you to sell your Xbone.

Luckily for you, when you bought the game for Xbox360, you were paying for the game codes which also work for the PC version; the money won't go to waste.
Oh... and if SE doesn't "control" the FFXI servers, then is it just a coincidence that the PS2 and Xbox360 servers will be shutting down on the same day? Why did Square make the announcement and not Microsoft?I never said that SE doesn't control FFXI servers. I said there are no separate Xbox360 servers. The Xbox360 needs to connect to Microsoft's Xbox Live servers before you can play anything online. If Microsoft's servers aren't there, SE can't do anything about it.

Microsoft wont be shutting down 360 servers in 2016. No way. Especially since now they'll be preserving the same 360 Live servers for XboxOne BC.

I'm just going by the explanation SE gave.
