They just had one like 2 months ago?

People that are paying for this game are getting ripped off at this rate.

Firstly, it's not a month. It's 2 weeks.

Secondly, how is anyone ripped off? I can't remember when the last one was, but if out of 12 weeks people collectively get 4 free weeks.... paying customers still got 8 weeks.

Additional players represent more content for paying customers.

Are you arguing for f2p?

Are you arguing for f2p?

f2p would be an incredible boon for FFXI.

I like the idea of more players but I don't think F2P will bring in more money than paid subscriptions.

Trust me, it would and the countless p2p mmo titles that went f2p and were saved atest to that. If they did it correctly but they have already stated they don't want to spend money adding the cash shop.

Turning FFXI into a Free to Play (AKA pay to win) game would be like saving the United States from an alien invasion by nuking our 50 largest cities.

To be fair, clipping coupons is an incredibly efficient way to save money, and as an employee in retail I've seen lots of savings from a clever coupon clipper. I find it to be relatively smart, so the personal attack is not as effective as it should be. Plus we probably shouldn't be making personal attacks. :P

That being said, while I would enjoy a subs removal, I agree that doing so would probably be the final nail in the coffin. Subscriptions go into paying the employees who maintain and develop for the game, as well as the various servers; even after content ends, bug maintenance and content balance will still be adjusted throughout. Once the profit for SE ends, so too does the game. Few companies exist solely to "make the customers happy," but rather to profit, and customer happiness is just a key to that. Logically speaking, if you made $X from FFXIV and lost $Y from FFXI for being f2p (using one game to maintain another), then they would probably drop FFXI to enjoy a $Y increase in profit as opposed to maintaining both. As long as SE is still making money from this, it will likely stay afloat. A subscription cut, however, might be a bit more reasonable. I have at least one friend who would be interested if costs were a bit lower.

It was stronger then myself, but i lost count of how many threads were invaded or started about ffxi going f2p by the person in question, all these threads have shown that the playerbase (the english speaking and forum going playerbase***) does not see f2p fit for ffxi. Yet yes, lower subs, why not?

Frankly, I think they should make it so anyone with an active FF14 sub should be able to play FFXI free of charge. Lets face it, FFXI is awesome but its also seriously outdated and not nearly as popular as it once was. By giving this feature to active FF14 players, it allows players who love both MMOs but don't want to pay for both to be able to enjoy both.

Or at the very least give active ff14 subscribers a discounted rate. Whose gonna want to fork out 14 some odd bucks for an older MMO when they are already paying as much for the better looking one.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that FFXI isn't great but its still one thing no one can deny: OLD and not worth the 14 bucks a month anymore.

I agree very much with this. I can think of quite a bit of people who play xiv atm but feel that two subs is to much for the time you have to divide between the two games although they enjoyed xi equally but left for the newer eyecandy.

Well the OLD versus new thing is a completely personal preference. Jimi Hendrix is old music, Justin Bieber is new music. I know which I prefer. The same goes for books and computergames, something being new doesn't mean it is better than the old, it is just shinier and more crisp.

And FTP works in Facebook games and other puny computergames that have nothing much to offer. I play Castle-Age on Facebook, "you hit the enemy REALLY hard!!!" and it offers me helmets of Ultimate Power for $20 and then I go back to hitting enemies really hard. The free to play games are poorly maintained and glitchy, and have weak rushed content that was never intended to keep a player happy, just to introduce artificial roadblocks that require a toll fee to pass. They are built on the concept of "customers" not "gamers" and they rely on the customer being a happy little mouse who enjoys running in endless pay-to-progress wheel, without ever actually doing any real gaming or having any personal victories.

If you like new shiny games, you should go and play them. If you like FTP games with glamour shops, you should go and play them.

FFXI is an incredibly complex atmospheric roleplaying world, with massive amounts of content. People saying FFXI should be FTP because there will be no new content, are forgetting that in 2005 there was no updates or content, just the bare basic game, we never had these monthly QOL upgrades, nothing ever changed, we farmed our silk threads and beetle jaws and we were happy paying the full fees to do so.

Whereas in 2016, when the updates have stopped, we have a lot of content to do, the new stuff from 2006~2015. It would take me rest of my natural life to finish my Empy Afterglow, so that is long-term content. There are a lot of recent battlefields that I never really touched, because I am building two empys lol. So in 2016 I still have a lot of content to play, and weapons to finish.

If you have somehow beaten all the game content at Hard Mode, and got Empy afterglows etc. there is still the option of starting again on a new character, perhaps doing this with some friends, and playing the game missions and quests again. Many people are playing to level 75 and locking the character on merits, and just playing the old areas at 75. I did this on a mule last year, and it was a lot more exciting than a lot of 99 content, because at 75 a lot more mobs aggro you, and battles take longer and involve more strategy and death lol. If I was bored on my 99 character, with all hard content beaten, and afterglows filling up my moghouse, I would definitely go play a new character and enjoy all the classic Vanadiel roleplaying storylines again.

Pretty much this. I play FF14 now cause its new and a lot more fun and they just came out with new expansion and I want to level all my jobs and crafts and stuff, but I pop in to play FFXI during free months to check out the new missions and story line. If they offered like free FF11 with a 14 sub then I would pop in more often to play FFXI. But not wanting to pay 2 subs is a big part of why I had to stop paying for FFXI and only pay for FFXIV.

They should just offer a final fantasy subscription so you can play either mmo from that one sub, they would still need to update XI better than they plan to even with that. At least for me anyway, a game with no updates gets stagnant really, really fast.

I personally found XIV incredibly boring and not fun at all but 2 for 1 is at least better than the horrible one they are trying to throw in peoples faces right now.
