When I go through this mission based on ffxiclopedia and click on the warmachine on Purgonorgo Isle it says <clunk clunk>. Is that what is supposed to happen? Do I then go on to the next step?
If I trade a Snow Lily to Tarnotik, hoping to be warped to Mine shaft #2716, nothing happens.
I started over talking to Cid and selected the mission again, talked to Perih Vashi then Despachiaire and the warmachine says clunk clunk still.
I did the "one good deed" quest which involves the war machine and Shikaree Z. But the warmachine sill says clunk clunk.
Am I missing something?

Probably over stepped and missed something that you had thought you had did possibly....or..missed seeing something in the readings of what to do on ffxiclopedia's website, possibly!? Keep me posted, thanks!

I haven't figured it out yet. I did the series of quests ending with Return to the depths, in order to be warped to mine shaft #2716. Once there, the battlefield for Past sins is not listed.
The ffxiclopedia page just lists who you are to speak with. So, I don't think I can be missing anything that is in the description.
An odd thing is that my current mission is Three paths, but under completed it has all 3 sub-missions. Below Past sins it lists Southern legend.
I'm now trying doing the Ulmia path (Where messengers gather) since Despachiaire talked about Ulmia and Perih Vashai talked about Shikaree Z and the Ulmia path includes both Ulmia and Shikaree Z and I'll see what happens.

did you start any of the other 2 paths if so you have to complete that one before you can even start the next one
in other words you can only do one path at a time that is my theory
i also think you need to walk (not HP warp) to Oldton Movalpolos because of the cut scene on entrance
if this is the case its because no one has done the quest and added that to the info sence the HP's became warps

Well, I had only started one leg. I probably initially warped to Oldton Movopolus. Now, I have talked to Cid and said I would try the Ulmia path, since I don't know what else to try. After reading the reply about walking into Oldton Movopolus, I talked to Cid again saying I would take the Past sins leg (Investigating Al'Something) talked to Despachaiaire and the Mitha and the warmachine (which still says clunk clunk) and I've walked into Oldton Movopolus, but there is no cutscene and when I go to the mineshaft there is no battle offered.
So, I guess I will go back and try the Ulmia leg. ffxiclopedia says you can have multiple legs in process at the same time, incidentally.

I managed to complete 3 paths by doing the other 2 legs. I first did Where messengers gather (Ulmia path). After that I had the same problems with Past sins. After doing The Pursuit of Paradise (Tenzen path), Past sins was able to be completed.
There is another possibility I can think of.
When after finishing the other 2 legs. When I talked to Perih Vashai, she repeated the same thing about the Shikaree Z trust scroll. Then I talked to again and the quest started. So, it might be that you just have to Past sins last and any order for the other 2.
When I was only on Past sins, I tried multiple times talking to Perih Vashai and never get past the speech about the trust scroll.
