Yes, this is slightly trollish, but I'm looking for answers of theoretical/academic type. Proclaiming himself to be a damage dealing bard (not indirectly through others), what did this bard purchase/acquire?

Single best gear for extra damage is going to be an instrument. Buffs are buffs.


Linos = All songs +1; Augments
Daurdabla = Singing skill +20 String instrument skill +20 Increases song effect duration Grants two additional song effects
Gjallarhorn = CHR+10 Singing skill +25 Wind instrument skill +25 All songs +4


I'm pretty sure swapping instruments doesn't nuke TP, but only so long as it is between instruments. Thus the Linos, which should be stacked with melee augments such as Quadruple Attack +3%.

relic bod to 119, also we are on some decent light melee gear from skirmish and the like, but it's at the expense of our casting. we can use some nifty daggers and most jewelry isn't that restrictive so you can get some decent boosts, like using my Rajas ring, etc. however, our melee acc is still much lower, as is out attack, even with songs, usually /dnc or /nin. I use it solo CP farming, triple ballad for healer trusts and use a pld, double ballad if the prey is dispel-happy, no point bothering with a 3rd song that can only last 2 seconds. We own links, even without casting gear my Lullabies land almost 100% if the mob is not immune. of course, that's with a full +4 Gjallerhorn.

Full disclaimer: I don't play bard but sometimes moonlight as a DD geo!

Most of the DD bard I've known had carnwenhan. AM3 is nice and longer song duration means more time to DD vs sing. As far as gear sets go nowadays I think most mage-ish DD are rocking an onca suit. I guess from there you go for an augmented telchine head with 15 acc 15 atk, 7 str 7 dex, stp 6 (I think you want to avoid double attack when you're rocking aftermath where you can). From there it probably matters what your target is (high eva, low eva, trash). For evasive things I'd pick subtlety spectacles, olseni belt, grounded mantle +1, ramuh ring +1 (x2), zennaroi earring, steelflash earring, and hasty pinion +1. For less evasive things I'd pick asperity necklace, pya'ekue belt, bleating mantle, rajas ring, ramuh ring +1, gelai earring, zennaroi earring, and ginsen.
