simply put no this is not a troll topic. this is simply stating a fact. SE no longer gives a care about FFXI nor our forum posts. for those of us who do not view the FFXIV forums allow me to shed some light. how many times have we seen a post from the Developer or a head director themselves?(omitting sections mini posts they call the "In development" topic) NONE! what's going on now is they are having a backwater staff take care of dev for FFXI not the official staff as they were moved to FFXIV due to the original staff being sacked for making FFXIV nearly bombshell.
THE PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING! (http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/3465-Letter-from-the-Producer-VI-%2803-16-2011%29)
the Producer has posted a fair few of these letters to the official FFXIV forums....i have yet to see ONE posted here regarding FFXI.....so ya i just figured i'd let everyone in on this little tidbit.
comments thoughts opinions?

Have you been living in a parallel universe for the last month? If so, please include instructions on transit, i'd love to know how to get there, I really could use a vacation.
On the contrary, could the mods please remove this inflammatory topic from the forums? We deserve much better threads than this.

The Development Team wouldn't ever be posting in the English forums. If you're waiting for them to reply to something here, it just won't happen. Tanaka-san himself has posted on the JP forums, though it was in regards to the Crysta donation business. Developer interaction is here. However, it comes to this foreign language subforum in the form of the English Community Team. They read this site a great deal, and they do respond to great ideas. It is no surprise, however, that there is less visible communication here than on the JP forum when the Community Team is basically working as a middle man between us and the Developers.

That's not true, the new head of XI's dev team atm is from the original dev team. He was one battle director of xi before the promotion.
New Director for FINAL FANTASY XI (09/01/2010)
We would like to announce the appointment of a new director for FINAL FANTASY XI.
Former Battle Director Akihiko Matsui has assumed the post, and would like to take this opportunity to offer a few words of greeting to our players.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Users,
It is both an honor and pleasure to give this address as the newly appointed director of FINAL FANTASY XI.
With the commencement of official service for FINAL FANTASY XIV imminent, the period ahead will prove to be a turning point for FINAL FANTASY XI. I have had the privilege of being part of the team since the project commenced some ten years ago, but to assume the mantle of leadership at this juncture is daunting indeed.
As director, I intend to work in close cooperation with all project members and involved parties to ensure that FINAL FANTASY XI will continue to hold allure for our players. For truly, nothing would please me more than to see Vana'diel remain a gathering place for those seeking high adventure and camaraderie.
I look forward to your continued support in the future.
Akihiko Matsui
Director, FINAL FANTASY XI
Also the old dev team was not canned for FFXIV's flop, the team got reorganized and some stayed there some went back here. I beleive Tanaka is back on XI and has posted on the boards recently about the crysta donation relief effort. You have to understand that Yoshi-P is a very interactive guy, where as the staff from XI isn't so much so. They are trying their best, and from how they used to run things I say they are doing a good job. They have recently put much more of an effort in trying to please the playerbase than they have in the past.
The community representatives have stated themselfs that they do indeed read every post here, but to sit there and respond to each one individually would be unreasonable. XI has a smaller dev team than XIV does, and similarly they have a smaller community team to interface with us.

1. Maybe one reason as to why the "higher ups" post on FFXIV forum, is that there is a LOT more work to be done with that game to make it even remotely as successful as FFXI?
Also, very much this:

well if that is the case then i agree with another topic posted in this forum. we need translated versions of posts from the Japanese forums. so we KNOW the dev team is listening. instead of a 3rd party community team acting as "the middle man"

I'm enjoying the game and everything the devs have been trying to do. Is it perfect no, is it a start yes. FF14 has so much to catch up on so its understandable that they would get more updates on what they plan to do with it. If SE really didn't care bout FF11 they wouldn't give us anything and just given us 99 already and called it a day.

there is a difference between "adding stuff to just make them happy" and "adding new content to make players enjoy FFXI more and have fun" the problem is that the recent updates over the last year or so have just been implemented to give players a reason to play. abyssea being one of these. they added this just so players wouldn't leave rather than creating something new that would make the player base go"oh wow! this is awsome!" instead we get recycled maps, weapons, and mobs and a half-wit plot.
edit: if they added Abyssea with brand new stuff and a great plot i wouldn't be pointing that out as one of them.

"A minority" is a group that isn't "the majority". The majority of people like Abyssea. Therefore, you are in the minority. I don't know why you can't accept that. So we have to assume, based on your statements alone, that the amount of people that are unhappy with the game is not a minority? Other than you, I don;t know that I have seen one person that is totally unsatisfied with the game as a whole in along time. Are there some tweaks to make it better? Sure, a MAJORITY of players would say that. Since the level caps, though, the game is better, and a lot of the people I see and play with agree.
Guess what? You want us to think that there is a majority of people unhappy, well the proof is in the pudding as you like to seem to say.. show us these unhappy masses. I bet the people that think the game has gone up in quality far outweighs this invisible group you seem to think is there.

Their actions around the time of FFXIV launch seems to push this idea I agree.
If you bring out a successor MMO anyway, you are giving the signal you want to wind down the previous game (for instance the only thing that could possibly kill wow would be releasing wow 2). The whole nature of Abyssea and the level increases goes along with this mindset, if you think about everything that would keep people on XI (things left to do like level jobs, finish CoP, pride in very difficult to obtain gear and not wanting to start again due to that etc)they did away with them all. All that is left now is the slow weaning off of FFXI from nothing to do (as people cap on the easy Aby content) and giving us easy to get gear that doesnt give players the same unwillingness to start over on the new game.
Having said that FFXIV failed harder than anyone thought possible and now they don't really know wtf to do, I assume the basic plan now is to go long term and keep FFXI going for anotehr year or so till they think they can get us all to move to XIV then really dry up on updates to get us bored enough to move, notice they haven't really given any information on the future of FFXI like major long term updates/plans or news on ANY kind of expansions (even mini ones..although they will surely release at least 1-2 more for >99 to keep us here for another year and to pay for FFXIV development) The fact they are still fixing up the failure of FFXIV shows they have this plan because lets be honest, XI players are really all that game is ever going to attract.
They don't really get that quite a lot of XI players will never move and they are just going to end up with overall less players and a lot more on WoW or some other new game. Square have shown they really aren't that business smart though so it's no suprise they would do something so stupid.
Doesnt it make you mad that we FFXI players are paying for FFXIV right now, our subscriptions and the money we pay for mini expansions go to pay for FFXIV so that it can eventually (they hope) get to the point where it gets to destroy our game.

I have a question. How exactly are they going to show us they care?
By stripping back content? lowering the level cap? reducing the number of zones to play in thereby forcing us to party in the traditional manner? What would make you happy? Why do you need to repeatedly bash the game, the development team and now the forum staff when its clear that your opinion is in the vast minority?
People have long memories, and if you continue to make threads of this nature, youre going to get the same responses every time. Because youve proven yourself to be a very bloody minded and generally abrasive poster, who doesnt take any stock in other peoples opinions unless they echo your own.

It's pretty obvious that Abyssea was meant to the last hurrah that would let everyone have fun and be a god while simultaneously cutting the ties to FFXI (obsoleting all the old gear for new easy to obtain job specific super gear) so that people could feel that they had "finished" the game and move on to FFXIV.

And please do report me.

I had a thought....... Krystal since you said you where not going to replay to the troll posts why bother replaying to them?
I can understand some frustration in not getting replays but people do not like it if you keep posting subject over and over.
To everyone else, you are not helping any, if you do not like the topic to the point you need to flame why post?
*Do not mix this statement in saying you should not post if you disagree with something, just that the attacks don't help anyone.*
When you attack like this it makes me think this view:
If I am SE or part of the DEV team or w/e, why would I bother to keep forums running if people only attack each other?
What I am saying is I think it makes us all look bad when there is such fighting and flames.
You also need to understand FFXIV is in real shambles ( if it was me management seeing the little improvement in beta I would of ether scrapped it or not release it).
FFXIV is free so you REALLY need to understand their desperate move to make it into profit.
My deep back view is the last year or so ( ever since the annocement of FFXIV coming out in sept 2010 and abyssea was to experiment with people wants and seeing what drastic changes does to the game ( like lol @ leveling 30-90 in one area. The reason for such experiments would be to get the next MNO not to be such a flop at release, always having a strong game ( likeWoW’s sucess))
Number 1 in marketing, know your target aduance. I think it is past the point where FFXI and FFXIV can bloom into the mass success WoW has, so all these latest changes and appeal/ commutation is to make the next one good from the start and stay strong. The idea to me what SE is trying to do is milk FFXI to help them recover/ balance out the loss from FFXIV, once FFXI is gone for good SE knows what to do for it's next MNO
VERY VERY VERY hard to recover on a bad reputation. I think SE is really seeing this now and that the FF name cannot carry you forever.

well to answer you question. they manage to bait me by sounding"semi-rational" in their posts and then they hook line and sinker me into replying. and before i know it they are simply trolling the thread. and to reply to your comment on this:

It's okay everyone, Krystal is just going through the 5 stages of the Kübler-Ross model, she'll be fine. Judging from this thread I'm going to assume she's starting to get over the denial stage of abyssea being the best thing to happen to this game in the past few years. She has now started to emerge on the 2nd phase which is anger. Fear not, we must hold strong and persevere and soon this too shall pass.
If we can just make it through this current phase she shall start bargaining with SE to fix the problems that are just a mere illusion in her own imagination. After the bargaining phase she shall enter a slump of depression, this is the stage where it's imperative that we stay strong and give her support. The last stage will be acceptance and as such the risk of aneurysms spreading to the community from reading these mind-numbing ridiculous threads will be over.
Rejoice follow FFXI players, for soon we shall hit the midway point to her recovery!

To the OP, did SE stop caring before or after Abyssea magically made FFXI awesome again?
Abyssea was made to be a big fun god mode (something that's honestly bad to do in an MMO..no matter how fun it is), if they removed Abyssea today there would be literally nothign at all to do..thats how much damage has been done to the game. Once everyone runs through abyssea that will be it, it's like killing a child with cake and candy.
Sure it's fun but you can see the ideas behind it, it was designed to let players be super human for that last push out of the game and onto FFXIV (notice they aren't doing Abyssea style content for FFXIV?..cause it will damage the game). Abyssea is no indication of what they plan to do with FFXI, what they do from now on is the real indication cause Abyssea is now over and stuff is getting boring fast.
If you don't think god mode makes games boring fast go try cheat on the newest FPS xbox game, see how quick you lose intrest when nothing can damage you.
If they really do want to carry on with FFXI in this fun mode they need to add new Aby style content regular, at least 3 of them per year...to keep people playing.

Yeah, I call BS on that. >_>
Between the poor grammar and spelling (unless he got his degree in some shady online university...) that suggests he couldn't even graduate middle school, let alone college and beyond, and the fact that his arguments are the online equivalent of a child throwing a tantrum (i.e. "You don't agree with me, well you suck" or "Why don't you all see things MY way because clearly I'm right!"), there is no way that particular line is true.
That being said, Krystal, please read through the more coherent responses on this thread. Greatguardian gave a simple and thought-out reply, as did CrystalWeapon on the first page. Those should be sufficient. The rest... well, you dug your own grave on them. I've seen a number of your posts, and all you've done is create a reputation of childishness and immaturity that causes no one to take you seriously. I know I don't. Maybe that doesn't matter to you, but in the end that reputation is what's going to determine how easily your threads get derailed, how seriously people (including the development team you're hoping for some recognition from) take you, etc...
In the end, this is a community. A community, as a whole, rises up to cut out the unwanted elements. You can say that the trolls are the unwanted elements, but in the end, you're the unwanted element. Notice how little support you have in your favor, and then look at the community arrayed against you.
Also, I've been trying to avoid posting lest I get caught up in all of this idiocy, but this thread was one threads too many. Thanks. x_x

.........You're complaining about derailing yet you took my statement and completely sidetracked it. The first part you at least coherently replied to, and then you just... went off on another rampage. What does having a field or two of skills you're not great in have to do with you being a BS psychologist? A psychologist, especially a professional one, has to go through years of schooling and intense studies requiring higher understanding of grammatical structure, which you show none of. That was my argument as to why your claim of being a psychologist is BS. You don't understand how people think, you make up theories that support you, such as your whole grand conspiracy bit that the trolls are trolling up threads because they don't want the development team to look too closely at your "novel" ideas. This, good sir, is not psychology. This is rumor-mongering.

It would be nice for more communication though. i wouldn't have made this topic post if i had seen more interaction between the devs and us. i made this topic as a genuine concern and to attempt to red flag the devs attention so-to-speak so they would be more likely to reply to threads that matter. the language barrier is annoying yes. and i can't say as if i blame them for not posting here because of such. but if they translated with help from the english team what they were saying or had a professional translate for them it would be much easier. all i really want is the devs to basically say"yes, we hear you! but this idea is bad.." or "this idea is great!" not to reply to all threads mind you as some ideas are better left untouched(i.e: beconmage..who the heck thought of that one?!) but at least enough so we know they are not reading a single thread perday and ignoring the rest.

Generally when you want someone to take you seriously you speak (or post in this case) in a professional manner. I'm sure a psychologist should know how important using language correctly is. The English language especially can be very critical when used in the wrong form; as a psychologist shouldn't your vocabulary consists of the least offensive forms of language as possible?

Then why bring up the argument that you did? To quote a specific part of it:
i really don't need to prove anything along those lines but to prove a point. Everyone has a field or two of skills they are not great in. Just because one is a professional in something does not mean they do not have their own problems. no one is perfect after all. Okay that's most of it, but the point remains. You don't "need" to prove anything, but you feel the urge to anyway. You are contradicting yourself, good sir. You have also claimed that you were a professional psychologist in response to someone's sarcastic use of the Kübler-Ross model, once more trying to provide yourself with some sort of backing in order to provide some credibility to your statements. Well, I could say that I'm the president, but that doesn't make me one, nor does that do anything besides make me look more foolish for making a wildly implausible claim. Especially since I'm only a law student who is a semester away from finishing his undergraduate...
Also, in response to the derails... don't reply to the trolls, and the topic won't get derailed. You are as responsible for the derail as anyone else, therefore contradicting yourself yet again. Case closed, the community's verdict is in: You are a childish, ill-tempered person who expects everything to come out as they want it, with no credibility or standing in the community, who cannot remain consistent to save his life. And a good day to you, sir.

Then why bring up the argument that you did? To quote a specific part of it:
I state things as they come to mind. and as for "the need to prove myself" you confusing "need" with simply"bragging" one can brag about their profession or skills. i only defended my earlier statement attempt to make a valid point on people in general irl. it could be taken as defending or "the need to prove myself" but that's all a matter of perspective. what one wants to see or what one is taught that "this is the norm". as for consistency. i believe i proved my point by what i just said. i have not "attempted to prove myself" in any major manner. you simply saw what i typed and took it as you saw it from your perspective which in terms "creditability" is not an issue here.

Okay, so let me point out a few things that I noticed in your reply:
1)
and as for "the need to prove myself" you confusing "need" with simply"bragging" one can brag about their profession or skills.
Bragging in order to defend yourself or establish some sort of credibility in order to discount someone else's words (such as your belief that he was using a mind game, but because you 'are a psychologist' they wouldn't work) is proving yourself. You're trying to make yourself seem bigger than you are, to establish some sort of respect and boost your own ego with an easily seen-through fabrication.
2)
i only defended my earlier statement attempt to make a valid point on people in general irl.
Derailing the argument at hand. Making a 'valid' point on people in general irl had nothing to do with the situation, and once more, you contradict yourself. You really should stop trolling with those derails, you did make a remark in big angry red letters that trolls weren't welcome here. After all, SE won't take your thread seriously if you troll in it.
3)
i believe i proved my point by what i just said. i have not "attempted to prove myself" in any major manner.
These two statements contradict each other. You proved your point but you didn't try to prove yourself? Hm.
4)
you simply saw what i typed and took it as you saw it from your perspective which in terms "creditability" is not an issue here.
First off, the sentence makes no sense, the usual grammatical errors aside. Ten points off of your grade, good sir. That being said, credibility is a major issue in any situation where you are interacting with other people. By having credibility, you increase the odds of people listening to you and/or taking seriously the things that you say. Conversely, when you don't have credibility, things are just the opposite; people will ignore you, make fun of you, or simply point out that what you are saying is wrong so that others will continue to do the same. This credibility is a strong foundation from which you are able to interact with the other members of the community around you.
My point remains the same, as you can see: You are trying to give yourself some form of credibility by creating fabrications and falsehoods, and when people are pointing out that the mistakes are glaringly obvious and that you have an undesirable personality, making you unfit for socialization among the people here, you try to derail their arguments with feeble, weak replies that do not have any standing on the statement before it. In other words, every post here has been a shambles of easy to pick apart fallacies.
Please just stop trying, it will do you more good in the long run.

once again perspective is an issue here. that aside. i have not made a single attack at you and yet you're attacking me in every post. along the lines of you saying my statement contradicted each other. it did not. proving one's point and proving one's self are two very different things. you simply saw those two as one thing. as for creditability. no it is not an issue here. due to the fact devs don't pay attention to this forum worth a dang as far as i can tell. among other players and forum posters i could care less if i have creditability with them or not. i post on this forum to "try" to have a decent conversation with other players and end up in *bleep*fights half the time.(mostly due to my short fuse being lit. so that's my screw up) so as i said before it is not an issue here.

Um... credibility is always an issue, especially considering the topic. To most right now, you sound like a raving rumor-monger, trying to think up conspiracies and looking around for someone to point blame at. How do you know that the devs don't pay attention to this forum? Because they don't come up with pretty little responses to say "hey, this is a good idea, here's a gold star for you!"? For all you know, they're taking down notes even as we speak on topics that actually interest them, using the ideas as a baseline in order to create new content for the game. Since when did they have to be accountable to you?
Also, you probably should care about your credibility with other players and with the other forum posters. See how many people dislike and/or ridicule your posts? That is because of poor credibility and standing. If a person knew you acted like this in the game? They would probably be less inclined to invite you to something you wanted, unless you jumped servers and changed your name in the process to restore your anonymity.
i post on this forum to "try" to have a decent conversation with other players and end up in *bleep*fights half the time.
Gee, that last part sounds mature. that aside, you don't try and have a decent conversation. You try and have a one-sided one where your side has to be right or you start denouncing people as trolls. That's not a conversation, that's a dictatorship.
Also, as a note from a friend: The phrase is "I couldn't care less." By saying you could care less, it means you do care and that this topic is indeed getting to you, which means that credibility does have some importance in your mind, and as a result unravels every argument you've made thus far. You're a very easy to read little guy, aren'tcha?
now you just patronizing me....-_-; i'm not at work atm so i don't see why i should bother with such things. i do my job. i help those in need. and i go home and can relax and loosen up. the sterotypes on psychologist are overrated. >.>;
Wow, epic fail. You are claiming cred as a professional psychologist when another poster was making a psychological joke.
Now you deny responsibility to live up to your professional title that you claimed....
You could have denied the allegation, but you denied responsibility...
Sorry, major loss of credibility.

*rolls eyes* four things. one: mind games don't work on me. two:the fact that you have attacked me yet again says to me you have no interest in making a intelligent conversation of any kind. Three:I have been an complete idiot not to see you were just trolling from the beginning. and four:I have a hard time believing you're going to law school.
so pat yourself on the back have a laugh. you the first troll who's actually managed to get me to make more than two-three replies. and yes i can call you a troll due to the fact you have attacked me in every post. I have work in 8 hours for people who actually need my help. so i'm going to say goodnight and this will be my last reply to this thread. i have no interest in trying to have a intelligent conversation with someone who is only posting to try and get me fired up. every post you have made has been pointing out different parts of my replies in an attempt to drag out the conversation while continuing to attack me. and as for your "friend" as you put it. That's reverse psychology. I gave up on my creditability after the abyssea threads i made got trolled to hell.(as i stupidly replied to every single one of the trolls) so no...you're "friend" as you put it is no where near the mark. i post to either attempt to have a conversation. or to see what troll will reply next.

As a psychologist, you would know that whenever you tell people that you will ignore them, the challenge has been laid down to see if they can get your attention. And a "troll," or the "troll" in all of us, immediately took notice since you also said it in red lettering. Since you've replied to so many of the "troll" posts, it appears that they got your attention.

This thread makes my head hurt. I don't see any specific reasons given to back up such an irresponsible claim.
1) After 7-8 years SE finally creates official forums for FFXI - their reward? This thread.
2) SE does reply to player feedback. Here is an example of player suggestion on forum translating into game change, in what will probably a turnaround of under 90 days: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/751-NPC-Fellow-Please-Raise-Level-Cap-And-Expand-Areas-Of-Use?p=61060&viewfull=1#post61060
3) As shown in #2 they have a DEV TAG system that we should use to help them keep track of our comments.

In order: I have not attempted to play a single mind game with you, merely attempted to use logic to counter your lack thereof by pointing out the flaws in your statements and making coherent counterpoints. You may call it a mind game, but I call it simple debate.
Second, I have also been trying to make intelligent conversation this entire time, short of the sections of posts that have specifically stated your nature for all to see, not that it was necessary to show anyone what they already knew. My intent was not to get you angry, merely to state a truth that anyone could see simply by looking at the way you post.
Third, I have not attempted to troll you once. I'm not trying to do the silly internet memes, I haven't done anything along the lines of "umad bro?" and I certainly have not tried to rally people behind me just for "lulz". I am simply debating an argument, and pointing out flaws in your reasoning. You're right (and, for your sake, this is the proper use of "you're") in that I'm attacking you, no doubts about it. I have found not only your reasoning, but your logic and your silly arguments all to be full of holes. And at the same time, you have attacked me right back, declaring me as a troll simply for calling you out on your poor social skills and pointing out the flaws in your logic. This makes you look like a child backed into a corner: "No, I can't be wrong, therefore you're a big meanie and I'm going to tell everyone." This is how you sound here.
And fourth, I have no way of proving that I am a law student short of giving you real live information that I would not trust you with, and as a result we are at a stalemate. Unfortunately, you have no credibility, and as a result there is no need to prove to you that I am or am not.
As for reverse psychology... what part of any of that was reverse psychology? I was simply pointing out the logic in the statement. It's a simple chain of thought.
Blarg, I'm too tired to bother explaining logic to you anymore, I suppose it's a good thing you're asleep.
Honestly, I think Krystal just feeds on this stuff. How could you not look at all these posts at some point and think to yourself "you know what they may actually have a point". Instead I'm sure Krystal's favorite thing is when he wakes up in the morning is to check the forums and see what kind of drama he has created from his obnoxious posts.
As to the actual topic, yes SE could have done A LOT to make this game a giant. They took things down a path over the years that were probably not the best choices. But, with all of its setbacks or things that fall short the game overall still gets a strong B+. FFXI is unlike any other MMO and IMO is still the best I have or plan to ever play. Instead of being so aggressive in your topics how about simplicity? Pick one thing at a time that states a point that people can reply to without feeling like you're... well childish. Myself personally I would like to see the devs take a look at adding more storyline content to the game. Maybe extra ToAU mission, CoP, Zilart, etc take your pick. If you say something like that instead of something like your opening post I think you would see a lot more positivity in the responses on your threads. (Although you've probably already burned your bridges with most people liking you)
Lastly, I don't like to harp on grammar because I've always sucked at it myself. But, my god the very least you could do to give your "psychologist" claim a little bit of credit is to use capitals. We learn this basic technique in what? Preschool? A well trained "psychologist" such as yourself whether kickin' back at home and relaxing or not should be able to hit the shift key while typing? Or am I completely wrong?
I have to say it...
I love both this thread and Kensagaku.

I think there are two really big differences about the two games that determine the support FFXI and FFXIV get. FFXI is known by millions, and chosen not to play. FFXIV is known by millions, and even though they choose not to play, they're keeping their eyes on the possibility of it getting better. FFXI is all about maintaining current subscribers to keep a profit. FFXIV has potential to grow. If you can't see that this is business first for SE, you should not be posting. IF SE didn't care about FFXI, servers would be closed down. It's as simple as that.

god easy mode is fun but when that is the only thing it gets boring fast.
I do hear a few complaints from abyssea and I think they miss this general point. Abyssea was great in the beginning. When we had lots to figure out. Aquiring gear and making that gear more powerful. I really don't know what more anyone could have wanted. Like you said, the problem came that it got old really fast. By the third expansion of abyssea, it was a been there done that experience. Anyone with a decent ls knew how to seek out gear and make it better. The way to lengthen this process was the speedy leveling up so that you'd have to repeat this process multiple times. The true downfall to abyssea, is not having an update put in already. All these changes they're doing to older zones should've been thrown in at least 2 months ago. God mode is fun and i love af3. I just don't have anything challenging to use it on.
