Details:
I zoned into Meriph. Mountains (S) on my Main Character, Karbuncle, and was disconnected while zoning. I stayed logged in (according to a friend I was in a party with) for quite some time, so I logged into my mule and it booted my main. Can log into my mule just fine, but my main character is completely unable to log in.
Steps:
1 ) Attempt to Log in to Main Character
2 ) Get stuck in Loading Screen
3 ) Error message: Unable to contact server (or some such other)
4 ) Try again, "Same character is already logged in"
Date & Time:
7:19PM
Frequency:
1. Always as of now.
Platform:
PC
PC Manufacturer & Model Number:
I Don't know, its an ASUS.
Operating System:
Windows 9.
Graphics Card:
Don't know.
ISP:
Charter.
Type of Internet Connection:
DSL?
Additional Info:
I've completely shut down the game and tried to log in from scratch, still getting the same error. Connection Timed out.
Seriously its cycling between "Connection Timed Out", "Same Character already logged in" and "Unable to connect to lobby server".
Edit: Full reset of Modem and PC Did not solve the issue. Alt Character on same account still able to log in fine.
Edit2: Went ahead and submitted a ticket from my alt character. See where that goes.
Edit3: Told me to contact Technical support.

Can you access the area fine with another character? If you can then it's a server problem, but if you don't there is a chance your install may be corrupt and causing an error when the area tries to load.
Edit > Another solution would be for someone from your LS to try and MPK you so you die and get HP'd as a temporary measure. There should be a NM or two you can bring to the zone entrance I hope.

My mule does not have access to (S) zones so I can't check. But I've passed through that area before today. God help me If I have to reinstall this game for the fourth time I'll be a little upset :(

Not a bad idea tbh... trying to remember what NMs could murder me in that zone, I'm sure theres a few...

Filecheck found no problems... Was kind of hoping it would so I could at least have an answer. But nope... Now my only option is hoping a GM helps me... and I'm not entirely positive Forum GMs and FFXI online support GMs are 24 hours like in game ones.

K so now i'm a bit more on the angry side. I decided to log back onto to my mule to try and see if I could zone into Meriph (S), and my mule logged in, in mog Garden.
Exited to Adoulin, worked fine
Teleported to Jeuno, worked fine.
Zoned into Rolanberry fields, Disconnected like main character, unable to access this character now.
So now both of my characters are receiving Error Code: FFXI-3001 when trying to log in. I'm trying not to be pushy but now I'm completely locked out of the game on both characters because apparently zoning into a non-town area is crashing my game. This is an issue I've never had before of have even heard of... File Check came up nothing, once again, and it was working perfectly fine the last couple weeks. What the actual sh*t ._.
Edit: I Guess its important to add, my brother who is living with me using the exact same connection I am is having no issues what-so-ever.

Are you using a wireless connection? You could you try using an ethernet cable and see if it changes anything. Otherwise clean reinstall would be the next step imo. Just make sure you download the client from the site and update it normally. Better not rewrite with your older files just in case.
PS > Just don't forget to backup your macros from the character screen.

Attempted both Wireless and Wired, I normally run on wired. Since I've been exploring these zones without issue for the past two weeks since I came back, i'm going to wait til morning before I start deleting files... perhaps the issue will have resolved itself by then or a GM will have assisted me. Was a huge ordeal getting the game installed during the Free log-in thanks to some bad directing and such from Steam, the thought of going through it all again is enough to make me wanna stab someone.
Definitely saving my macros if i decide to go that route though...

Yeah, hopefully it's just a temporary issue or a GM can help you with it.
Just one thing about the reinstall, using Steam is no longer needed to download the client. And from what I've heard the Steam version has some odd issues sometimes. So if you end up reinstalling I suggest you do it using the download from Playonline rather than the Steam version.

You can download it from playonline now? Neat. Last time I remember trying that you couldn't still. But that was a while ago... I should do that next time, thanks.

Waiting overnight didn't seem to fix the issue and no GM has contacted me via Email yet even though I've submitted two tickets like 12 hours ago... Guess I'll reinstall and wish for the best.

They have the client hosted on the FFXI website now: http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/download/media/install_win.html

Okay, well, completely deleted and reinstalled the game and I still can't log in. I think I've been decently patient until now... but thats gone... Sorry for the bystanders but lets see how many times I'll need to bump this before someone notices ._.
Edit: and for what its worth I'm not using a certain 3pt.

Still not working. Sometimes I disconnect even just trying to log into Playonline... but always immediately works right after I get the error.

Fiddled with anti-virus, Restored Windows Firewall to default, accessed Modem firewall and shut it off and tried, didn't work. Still unable to access either character. Attempted Google searches, all came back firewall related or some such ffxi.dll issues, this isn't happening for me.
Again I apologize to the folks just trying to read the forums, feel free to ignore this thread. But I really do feel nearly two entire days of this f*ckery is enough.

Bonus round: Logged into Guild Wars 2 just fine, but FFXIV is also broken and I cannot connect to its Servers either. So apparently Square Enix hates me or my Computer hates Square enix.

I get it to work intermittently by doing a LOT of f**kery, I was also able to Walk around Sauromogue and Ceizac on my mule, however, I still disconnect went entering both Rolanberry Fields and Meriph Mountains (S)... and it completely locks me out of those characters until I frigging hard reset my computer connection by deleting the Registry Keys for the connections... Which will allow me to connect to the zone, but if i exit and try to rezone, I get disconnected.

Man that sucks, btw have you tried turning off all the firewalling and see if it works that way?
Also, can you access XI using your brother's computer and move normally that way? And if you can, are we looking into a full OS reinstall here?

Yah, I've tried completely disabling the fire wall, didn't help none. I think we've tracked it to the Router but theres a lot of unanswered questions and no logical chain of thought can place why it works sometimes and sometimes doesn't but works for his computer almost entirely, its getting to the point its hard to explain lol. My brother connected to the Router in my room and was not able to log into the game the same way I couldn't. We tried logging in from his there-after and he was able to get on, and so was I for a short time, but upon exiting and re-entering Meriph I was locked out again entirely as before.
We eventually found a work around by deleting all of my saved Network Keys in some part of my computer I didn't know existed, this allowed me to log on and leave Meriph, but was promptly screwed again upon trying to enter that zone again. My Mule was able to enter Sauromogue Champaign and Ceizac fine after I was locked out in Meriph again, but upon entering Rolanberry, I again experienced the disconnect on him. So far, Rolanberry Fields and Meriph Mountains (S) have both locked my characters out with constant disconnects.
The router is nearly 3 years olds so we thought it might be on its way out and have purchased another, but it seems that the issue more often than not is connecting to the lobby server.
We've destroyed the old router in the way best fitting old routers who drive me insane for 24 hours. BY taking it into my backyard and beating it with a shovel until it was no longer recognizable as a piece of technology. (not really, but I'm going too).
But with the new router connection appears stable but I can't confirm it til I leave and rezone into Meriph, which I'm not doing anytime soon TBH...

It's a long shot, but have you tried to flush your DNS cache?
Open a command prompt and enter the command:
ipconfig /flushdns

Well with a brand new router, now both me and my brother are Experiencing the "Downloading Data" error with server connection loss/time out preventing us from accessing our characters. This is after it worked fine for a while, while we did campaign in Castle (O) and Plucking Wings.
This time he's experiencing it when entering Ru'Lude, and I'm experiencing it when entering Western Adoulin. Other zones worked fine... Alt characters not in the death-zone work as well. This has to be an XI issue somewhere along the line, cause no of our other services are effected and its only very certain zones causing us to bug out, and the zones seems to not be consistent or have any reason to it.
Now my primary character is lost unable to load into Adoulin, with my sub character working perfectly fine. So FFXI is even half working, allowing one character to roam while another is stuck in a loading screen unable to be accessed.
Still, if this was happening on any consistent basis it would have been reported by people other than me, which makes me keep checking my end trying to diagnose my computer and I keep coming up with nothing... Its frustrating :(
Edit: Also getting errors intermittently and possibly related, when accessing the Action house and /search function, they sometimes fail to load... getting the "Search Failed" message.
Edit2: Error is still "FFXI-3001" when trying to log in.

i have some questions
does your internet modem have a router built in??
-if so were you using a second router to connect to that one??
---if so this might be causing your issue try just connecting to the services router/modem
-if not try connecting directly to the modem and if that fixes your issue then the setup on your router is bad or the router your using cant handle 2 high traffic games running at the same time

Its does not, we replaced the old router yesterday with a new one hoping that would fix it.. however while it worked for a little bit, the issues have happened again.
I even plugged directly into my Modem and this did not fix the issue, and I'm still locked out of my character...
I should mention We've been playing together for the last 2 weeks fine, and its only very specific zones that disconnect us, and they aren't even the same zones for both of us :|

It would suck if it ends up being your ISP that is messing up your connection to some servers in Japan.
