View Full Version : RoV missions too short for such a grand finale

While I understand that there are at least two more parts on the way (one in August and the final part in November) I just felt that this first part just felt too short. This is suppose to be the story of all stories. Final Fantasy XI's grandest tale and yet it just felt like a simple run from point A to point B type of quest that could be completed in an hour. Perhaps the longest part of the story is perhaps the farming for the clump of beeswax and mandragora items, add that with the Escha-Zitah content and that's the only thing lengthens this first part in the story.

Overall, it was nice to finally see Siren and the story isn't bad, just too short for such a grand finale. I can only hope that the next two parts are a bit longer and at least attempt to bring back the magic that made many love this game in the first place.

It felt like what SE has been doing on XIV :/ skimping on story and having it completable within an hour and then you forget about it. Seriously, the way SE did the story on XIV, I don't remember half of it and it hasn't been that long, yet 10 years of XI and I remember pretty much all of the story and even a lot of the sidequests.

I really do hope they make the rest longer and feel like how the rest of the expansion stories have felt, rather than go here, then here, then here, done. Not sure how I feel about the mission log telling you exactly where to go either >_> Came back from a few month break to see the game holding your hand now :/

I agree, like I said the story wasn't bad at all. The end had me wondering if we'd get Siren perhaps in one of the next two patches as a summonable avatar. Also I noticed a difference with Lion when you first go to one of the shattered telepoint crystals. If you completed RoTZ, the story coincides with what happened to here, but if you didn't finish RoTZ then she appears as normal. However, it does ignore what happened if you beat Apocalypse Nigh which kinda sucks.

But the same can be said if you do any of the Abyssea things or CoP before RotZ. I feel that Apoc. Nigh's ties in later seeing how it links the final missions in both RotZ and CoP

My guess is they had very little time to put together this set of missions. But the following updates should have way more RoV content.

Although I would've preferred it if they were paid scenarios instead, so SE would give them more people, time and money to work with for the finale. Either way I'm liking the story so far.

Good day, everyone,

For those of you looking for more story, don't worry--this is the shortest of the Rhapsodies of Vana'diel chapters, and there is much more to come in the patches ahead!

It's not short at all, it just feels short because we don't have the roadblocks that we used to. For instance, on my alt, I completed Zilart in two days and Promathia in a week. When all three chapters of Rhapsodies comes out, it'll be about that same length.

I did Rhapsodies then finally decided to get started on Seekers. Damn does that make the first part of rhapsodies feel even more disappointing. I've been shocked and impressed by the quality of animations and writing in seekers, as well as the length. The only thing it couldve used is more fights. Im halfway through chapter 5 now and its starting to really throw fights at me.

I'm looking forward to more of Rhapsodies and hope it can compare, or even better capture the glory of CoPs story

Seekers was petty short on story the month it released as well. You're comparing a finished expansion to one not even a week old, that still has content to release.

I'm perfectly fine without all the artificial roadblocks (e.g. wait past JP midnight or wait past conquest update). However, this segment of this story is really very short even when you consider that. Zilart and Promathia also had a lot of fights and combat involved while Raphsodies part 1 has very little in that regard.
