View Full Version : ATTN: Let us play both FFXI and FFXIV simultaneously with a joint-subscription option

We all want to see FFXI continue thriving, correct?

To achieve this goal and not lose momentum with our current subscription model, we will need a new strategy. Perhaps a strategy that involves a FFXIV joint-subscription option, providing an optional choice for FFXIV players to also subscribe to FFXI at a generously discounted rate.

Here I reference two successful Reddit threads to invoke the community's positive response to this idea.

From the FFXIV subreddit:
http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/35qjtk/to_squareenix_let_us_play_both_ffxi_and_ffxiv

From the FFXI subreddit:
http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxi/comments/35qf1l/to_squareenix_let_us_play_both_ffxi_and_ffxiv

...

Both of these Reddit threads contain the following information:

SOLUTION:
Create a FFXIV joint-subscription option that activates 1 FFXI PlayOnline content ID.

OPTIONS:
Pay X amount additional to the FFXIV base subscription fee, which allows continued support to your FFXI staff.
OR
Free option for players to link 1 FFXI PlayOnline content ID to the Mog Station FFXIV account.

Of course there are many other options, and I hope to inspire the discussion of these options here.

Let's get the attention of SquareEnix on this topic.

I believe they already said that they don't have plans to bring it back, also multi-posting linking this thread won't get you a response from the Community team any faster.

If they have no plans to change the subscription model, this game will decay into nothing. Thanks for sharing your perspective!

The game will decay into nothing regardless.

The only thing they should do is give a free lifetime FFXIV account to all FFXI players, considering how few FFXI players enjoy FFXIV that won't be much (well, it's SE...).
And a unique mount or something stupid, that way FFXIV players will despise FFXI even more.
Since they used most of FFXI money on other games (particularly FFXIV) instead of supporting the game when they should have, that would, for once, be a nice move towards their loyal customers, even though FFXIV is terrible.

I don't even know if I'm kidding.

I just recently came back to FFXI, and given the changes... I'll probably just resub to XIV every other content patch, catch up in a month or two, and then fall back on FFXI the rest of the time... I've been enjoying myself far more on XI the past couple of days than I have been on XIV the past several months. I wouldn't say no to subbing to one game including the other for free, but it'd be wasted on me.

No thanks, linking XI to WoWcloneXIV would be a downgrade for me.

Although, I wouldn't mind it as long as it was a completely optional thing I was in no way forced to do. Want to link accounts and play XIV and XI for the same price? Not my problem as long as it doesn't affect me.

Ya i think you get access to the other one if you paying for one. If not make it only 1$ more to play the other one. Which other one you choose to pay for in full.

Which server do you play FFXIV? My FFXIV server is Ultros.

I see we are both playing FFXI on Asura. I'm in the Reddit and VeniVidiVici linkshells if you'd like to chat sometime, IGN Teleste.

Thanks for sharing your perspectives everyone! Keep the ideas flowing and share this information. Keep the conversation going

I wouldn't mind seeing a model where you pay a sub fee to access all SE premium services, and an additional minor fee per character or game access you wish to focus on. Still requiring to buy the particular installment and as such probably netting sales in games they wouldn't otherwise get.

I support this payment idea 100%, just as long as I never have to actually play FF14 again, ever, under any circumstances, for as long as I live, ever, at all.

I was looking at that Reddit shell originally, but since I've only been playing a few days, I didn't want to bother them for a pearl only for my gaming adhd to kick in and end up taking a break from MMOs in general in a week or so. But for the moment, I've hit rank 3 and got my subjob slot unlocked and I'm settling in with leveling up Whm/Blm. IGN Isalyndra, although despite being a returning player who originally started in 2002, I never even got to the Zilart missions, so I'm already in "new territory" as it is, being Rank 3.

You should apply for a Reddit pearl. We help everyone, if you're willing to help yourself. If you take a break, that's fine, but when you come back, if ever, you will have an LS right there for you. We have lots of new players that have never played before, lots of recently returned players, and lots of people that have been there for years.

They want to make more money, not less.

I believe the current plan is "Watch everyone play for the next 2 months until Heavensward releases, then /wave /goodbye to 60%+ of the population for a few months to forever."

FFXI actually has great potential, they just don't know it due to being out of touch with the modern mmo market.

Under a f2p system on pc this game would be a monster of profitability (just as their mobile games are), they have obviously given up on it so there is no reason not to experiment and make it self sustaining.

At this point I think players who are dead against f2p should see it as the lesser of 2 evils, this game simply won't be sustainable once they stop making content for it and it would be a travesty to see this game and world dissapear.

It's a good idea and one I've advocated before. They should at least try it as a last resort if it comes to that.

These two games are so different by design that I doubt any one player would find both of these games ideal. But it would be an incentive to subscribe and give people something else to play during lulls in development that might occur on their preferred game.

All that being said: I think the only thing that has kept this game going is its ability to sustain a profitable subscription base all on its own. If it were to lose that quality: not sure it the company could justify keeping it active.

Majority of ffxiv players really would not want to play a game that is totally different from their own and that looks worse.

They need to find a way to make ffxi profitable again, not give it away as a booby prize to ffxiv players.

although itt'l never happen, I'd certainly love for them to bring this back, it would be easier for me to keep both games active so I can scratch that itch whenever I want :D

This thread is refreshing in a sea of threads full of people resenting FFXIV's existence and bashing it just because it exists. I love both games, and I'd love to be able to hop back and forth whenever.
