This could have to do with the Amsterdam Internet Exchange malfunction earlier.
Not much SE can do about.

Also experiencing this.
First attempt to log in go to main splash page in UI but when checking game version received error. Saw there was Log In issues update under Server Maintenance but was flagged as 'fixed'. Restarted laptop and now cannot log into POL.
Launch Play Online
Select account and enter log in information (not using authenticator).
Stays on "Checking Playonline Version".

Welp, got into POL, but now guess what? Getting error 1160... WHILE TRYING TO UPDATE THE GAME.
My advice to SE: DON'T RELEASE A POST SAYING THE SITUATION'S FIXED, WHEN IT CLEARLY IS NOT.

Word of advice SE, when you actually make a claim you fixed a problem make sure you didn't actually make it worse! Was able to log in to POL before your so called fix, now can't even do that, so yeah DEFINITELY NOT FIXED!!

Check your server equipment again, SE, first time I've had this 1160 error flash up in POL in many years.

I am having the same issue too, so it seems like it's not fixed.

In my opinion you need to calm down, the game is up without a problem most of the time, there's going to be the occasional problem, play a different game, read a book, have a nap. In short, there's a login issue, they'll fix it, do something else in the meantime.
EDIT: This was in reply to Candlejack btw, not everyone in this thread.

Going to speak for myself, its very frustrating to have the same exact problem after SE annouced it as fixed. We had no guarantee it was still being looked into.
However SE just retracted the previous announcement, so now is the time to be patient.

Your opinion, and believe me, it's justified, would be fine save for one slight problem as Jiyou pointed out:
SE released a statement essentially saying "Ok, the problem's cleared up, everyone back into the pool!"
While that in itself would've been fine and dandy, had they actually fixed the problem, they didn't and it persisted.
Ergo, my anger towards SE for saying "oh, everything's fine, move along everyone, nothing to see here" when it wasn't "fine" by any stretch, is also a justified response.
