hi.
Well i started back 2 days ago loving the game always will do, love the trust but there is one issue iv found they don't attack if you attack with magic u have to melee attack witch is not very good when u go out to lvl a blm or whm because lets face it to attack in melee with a blm is just pointless so this thing des need to be sorted so they attack when u also cast not just attack with melee but final fantasy for life other than that little thingi found playing my first 18 lvl's don't sound big but thought idbring it up.
Thanks..

That's been the intended way the Trust system works since release a year and a half ago. The solution is to run into melee range, make one swing, unlock your camera, and run out of melee range to keep casting. You don't have to keep fighting melee, but you can't disengage.

As an additional note, leveling from 1->99, meleeing mages isn't necessarily a bad thing. There's some acc gear, food isn't terribly expensive, and building up your staff (BLM) or club (WHM) skill does grant you some WS you can benefit from for decent damage, especially since several of the Trusts will skillchain with you. Karaha-Baraha and Ayame are particularly good at this, and the latter will even WS to open a SC for you once you hit 1000 TP, as long as it's the last WS you used; basically, you "prime" her with a WS, and she'll continuously open up SCs for you to close + Magic Burst on for good damage. And with the changes to tanking, tank trusts usually don't lose hate even to an MB as long as they have Flash/Provoke etc. So yeah! Melee mage is not a bad leveling style now.

As someone who leveled mage jobs prior to trusts (albeit only to 40, and after the mod that basically doubled xp from EM and lower) melee mage does work out well. Plowing through enemies with a staff or club provides a degree of longevity, and DC mobs won't hit hard enough to be a major issue. Heck, I had a total blast on SMN opening up SCs for my pets to close. Also, do remember that magical WS follow magic foemulas for damage: they use your int (or mnd for light element club/sword ws) as main stat and benefit from magic attack bonus. I fondly remember being in a qufim party on WHM, subbing /blm for MAB, and slamming mobs with seraph strike for some rather nice numbers.
So, yeah. The game was designed with the intent of mages meleeing. The playerbase just found it suboptimal for their leveling methods. With the changes to the lower end of xp and FoV/GoV encouraging attacking EP-DC mobs the method has changed. Embrace it.
