The game is not window 8.1 compatible. Will you release a window 8.1 version soon? I load your game on two computers both same error.

How old is the version you are trying to install? And what is the error you are getting? (Screenshot appreciated if possible.)
Both the Steam version as well as the version you can download from the Final Fantasy XI website work like a charm on both my Windows 8.1 as well as my Windows 10 systems.

Neither of them need to be run in any compatibility mode either.

Enable DirectPlay under legacy features in your control panel.

Took me 2 minutes to solve this when I had the same problem. Google is your friend.

Yea DirectPlay for older downloads. The version available now on the PlayOnline site works flawlessly with Windows 8.1, no changes need to be made.
