A couple friends of mine can't access the game after purchasing it from Steam

Hiyo, I know it's a common problem that SE can't keep Steam and Valve supplied with NA region access key codes for FFXI. A few friends of mine want to come back to the game, and did purchase their copies (2 returning vets, and one of'em roped in a couple rookies to join in) through Steam, but now they can't access the game because the key server won't connect.
Is there any way this can be addressed for them soon?

Unfortunately the instructions aren't really clear.

What they can do however is the following:
Go to: https://secure.square-enix.com/account/app/svc/Login?cont=account
Make an account there and log in.
Click the Final Fantasy XI Banner (Mog Station is for FFXIV services)
Add a Service account -> Fill in the registration code given by Steam.

From there things should go a tad more smooth.
