Spent 6-hours getting everything set up, and probably 30 minutes in game, before hitting the Metalworks for the trusts, only to get stuck on this FFXI-3001 error...
Reading up on others having the same issue, but having a hard time figuring out a solution.
Opened my ports, hard-wired into my Comcast DORY router.
Nothing seems to work, any recommendations as I sit on the phone, attempting to reach Square Enix support?

I was on the phone with them about 20 mins ago and were useless!
Although do mention a number of FFXI players who have posted on this site and many number of other sites are unable to access their accounts and its been days. I'm sure if you press the issue to them, they might look at our issues ASAP and not be lazy.

I spent quite a while chatting with Square-Enix Support, and Comcast support.
I won't even bother pasting the Comcast dribble I had to deal with, but I respect the steps taken by Sqeenix support, even if they couldn't solve the issue from their end at this time, several attempts were made.
If you have a friend or family member you can visit with internet, while not ideal, you could bring your PC over to their house and try to login from their location. That way you could at least move your character.
: You may also want to contact your ISP regarding the ports in question to see if they restrict any of them for any reason. It seems like the real issue is losing connection at this zayo.com. However the Montreal ping does indicate an issue as well.
If you have forwarded your ports already, which you did, then there are no other suggestions from us. We unfortunately are investigating this string of connection issues still. The issue, as I said, may resolve itself in time. That is what happened previously.
This has been an issue we have had pop up in the last week or so. We saw something like this years ago (probably over 5). The issue seems to be in a backbone server between players' ISP and our servers. We will try our best to assist, however this may be a situation that resolves itself over time with no immediate user-end solution.
Now this is a tad annoying, as the same day I registered the game, I get disconnected with this.
Losing trial time and nostalgia is starting to disperse a bit, as I've jumped hoops and scuttled along tech-supports attempting a band-aid for this problem.
Unsure what else to do really, wish there was a timeframe given for a possible fix.

Really contemplating the question of, should I call Square Enix and ask for a refund at this point.
Its been almost a week since I purchased, and have yet to invest an hour in the game, without an E.T.A. on when I might get a chance.
On the bright-side, spent a bit of time re-learning the insides and outs of networking, so theres that.

I would def ask for a refund or at least have them not bill u for the next month.
I'm having a friend log me in whenever i get the error code which is annoying, also I can not go back to that zone and wrote it down my "List of places not to go" lol
