Hey All, so the maximum post on the auction house has always been 7, and it doesnt stay up for very long. With the dwindling numbers I think it would be a nice boost for the auction house if people could post much much more than just 7 items. Perhaps unlimited? and with an unlimited end time on them too? It's a shame seeing a mostly dead AH. Anyone agree?

This was their answer a few months ago:

Increasing both the amount of items that can be listed on the Auction House and the length of time items are listed on the Auction House will directly increase server load.

With that said, there are no plans to implement these requests, but if the dev. team decides to do so, it will only be one of the suggested increases and not both.

The development team would like to look into these requests very carefully because each one would increase the server load, which would also cause an increase in the time required for the Auction House to load.

Ah I see, thanks xD maybe i should have searched previous posts before posting xD

Though having said that, with fewer numbers on the server maybe it can handle it now?

The amount has not always been 7. For the first month after the original JP launch of the AH, the max was 8 items, and the AH server kept crashing, so they lowered it to 7. AH wasn't even opened until a month after release. Granted, the population now is less than when the game launched (or at least is reasonably so given the current search numbers and the reduced number of servers), and the servers should have higher specifications after 13 years to be able to handle the traffic and CPU and memory load (even with the increased number of items listable on the AH).

May 16 2002 Game launched
11 June 2002 AH Opened
9 July 2002 Number of items on AH reduced from 8 to 7

So yeah, given how fast computer capability doubles, I think the reason they gave for how much load it would put on the servers is rubbish, considering we aren't stressing the servers as much as they were at launch.

Ah I see, I hadn't realized it started out differently, i joined at xbox launch tho. But yea I agree, with updated tech and fewer numbers I wouldn't have expected it to be much of an issue. And if we can't get more AH slots maybe something else to help obtain items that aren't being circulated anymore. I noticed eminence NPCs are stocking some armour pieces now, maybe they just need to build on that. And as for finding somewhere to sell our drops from enemies, If no one on the ah wants them anymore, maybe we can get a better price from them from an NPC?

They have been reducing the price items sell for on the AH if they are too easy to get, to keep the market from being flooded with gil. They're not going to increase the price that NPCs buy monster drops for in that light. Look at Wisteria Lumber recently getting dropped from 6000 NPC price to 600 gil, because too many people were farming the Goobues for that drop and just selling it to NPCs. Sparks seems to be the only currency they've been happy with the conversion rate to gil, after nerfing Chocobo Blinkers that you could buy with cruor and sell for gil.
