For what, 7 years I've seen dragoons around and 1 question burns...
Why don't our little wyverns grow in size as they level? And I'm talking as big as those you see in Ifrit's Cauldron!
Heck, we've been riding chocobo's so long, let the dragoons ride their wyverns.:p

In a solo situation, I'd agree that it would be cool. Or perhaps limited to a short timed JA that let your wyvern use it's full power or whatever. But a perm change to it's size would have more drawbacks than the initial cool impact.

Specifically it could be too much of a distraction on screen. I sometimes have a hard enough time seeing as it is, but that could just be me.

I'd be okay with one the size of the Naul's in abyssea Tahrongi.

Knowing SE, it would be too much work for them.
Sadly any dat modder could tell you creating bigger wyvrens is easy to do, and implementing a system that ties leveling up and your wyvrens size is even easier.
That dosent mean we should stop annoying them about it however, increasing wyvren size would fore sure be cool.

I like my wyvern mostly the way it is. Colour is one thing, but I wouldn't want anything avatar sized following me around all the time.

Exactly, and if they made them any bigger they might disable the backflip emote. I think you'll all agree this would be an unmitigated disaster.

I'm pretty sure dragons grow rea~lly slowly, like in multiple human generations...

Even if it was fanfiction. But there's a novel that explains why your wyvern doesn't grow in size while you gain experience.

Well in typical RPG lore, Dragons take hundreds of years to grow to maturity. Wyrms are usually ancient around the ballpark of 1000 years old.

The level of detail to FFXI and it's mechanics is above and beyond as we all know, trust me, theres no lack of appreaciation there. Just saying the lack of detail to the Dragoons job, to the pet wyvern specifically, seems lacking. It gives no honor to the idea of owning a dragon.
Similar to the Wyvern family in abilitites/size, chocobo's in color/raising options and using elemental basics in the growth of your pet.
As a level 90 Dragoon, it would of been nice to exit San d'Oria, call forth my Blue Wyvern of ice, mount my pet for riding to get to Abyssea - La Theine (low level flying even, so we can still pop off mid air flips while mounted). During battle I would use Wind Wall for my parties evasion boost, Dispeling Wind to debuff the defending mob, Fang Rush for a physical WS followed by a Blizzard Breath with a magic burst on ws chains. Maybe even a Radiant Breath as some form of Level Specific quest, even Blue Mages have that one!
In so doing, we would have a more diverse job class in dragoons with elemental based specific wyverns, another class of mounts to ride, character/pet lancing abilities (assuming that lancer was the direction origanally intended for the job). And heck, lets go all the way, use equiptment and armor on our wyverns implementing the Puppet Masters current system! (I'd still like to see armor'd chocobos for our rides as well)
Granted, the Job may become the too cool, out shining all the other jobs, but all the mechanics is there already spread thru the game!

I've been playing for over 7 years Earth time, I'm sure if you take the Vana'diel time modifier to that, you'll realize that it's been over 1000 years easy.

To find out how old your wyvern is you would need to mark the exact play time u hatched it and subtract that amount from ur current total playtime. The number of hours you have played since the hatching = the number of days old ur wyvern is. Every real day of playtime = 24 Vana days roughly. So roughly every 15 days would be 1 vana year. And every year in real life is around 24 vana years.
If u played 7 years your wyvern is roughly 168 years old. you would need to play another 35 years irl to break 1k year old wyvern
But if we did implement aging into the game all the humes would fall over dead from old age.

Very true, good form, I stand corrected...

It's still be bigger then what we've got now XD. Also, i would like to state that there is an NPC in the past that has a full grown wyvern following her around. Ours is a baby and i don't know why we can't grow him up. Maybe after we defeat matt to show we are sufficiently skilled?
http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Bravo
The point of that statement just so all is very clear, is I doubt it would be that difficult, since we already have the system modled by an npc, to give us a full grown wyvern, not a 'wyrm' which would take milenia to grow, but a wyvern.

Wasn't it said somewhere that Achtelle didn't raise Bravo, but that he had already grown up before they paired up...?

Please, no gigantic pets. Just go ahead and dat swap in a wyrm or normal wyvern mob if you don't already see how incredibly annoying this would become.
The way I see it, the DRG wyvern type is already grown, that's just how these ones are. Unless you mean to say DRG beastmen, Maat, mobs in dynamis, aerns and even AV himself just like the company of baby dragons?

they are baby dragons, in the drg story line we are supposed to destroy the egg of a last baby wyvern before it hatches, but in our soft-hearted-ness we save it and become a drg instead of killing it. So yes, i guess beastman do like hanging out with baby dragons like 'we' of the drg job do.

I think it's pretty funny that we're supposed to be the last of a lost school of dragon knight, and yet it's a fairly common job among the Orcs, and other beastmen.
I think it's fairly safe to say that, since we are all in the same social sphere, all Midlands DRG pact newborn dragons.

They should just make it a merit, so if u choose to make ur wyvern the size of the bst one from campaign u can, if ud rather put points to something more useful, u can do that too. That way not everyone has bigger wyvern.

Larger pets would just cluster up battles, especially when there are a lot of players in the area.
I do however think Dragoons need some sort of aesthetic change, more in the form of job abilities. What happened to all the dragoon abilities Freya had? Why give DRGs a bazillion jumps rather than Reis's Wind, Luna, Lancer, etc.?
Perhaps not those exact abilities but something a little different from Jump would be a nice addition.
