I changed my mine...took my idea down.
Seems they are going to have a MMM (phone FF)
This year appears to be it for FFxi if translation on FFIAH is correct some major parts added this year and a some updates this year and sounds like maintenance after that.

Worry not, for I'm sure your mail is on its way!
2015 marks my 10 years of age on this character, and 833 days on-line. We're luckily not going out just yet either, although it may get slower from here on out. There's still time, and more to come!
Cheers to all the memories that have been created thus far, and for those not yet formed!
Well that was all very wierd and somewhat depressing. Why Nexon? Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

Agreed, it is all pretty depressing, yet not surprising.
Just gotta make most out of the rest of the flight, I maybe guess! °—°

How they'll make this work on a smartphone, I have no idea. It almost seems like an early april fools joke.
Whatever, I guess, I don't even own a smartphone, so you won't be seeing me using a phone version of the game.

I can imagine it, and a word that first(ish) comes to my mind is: bland.

Oooh, I'm not the only one not owning one. Heh!
All this is not likely to get me obtain one, either. Mobile games are definitely not my thing.

It's just a weird transition. While moving to mobile might pull in new kiddies, the existing community might for the most part, have a tough time transitioning. Even if they already have smartphones. I was thinking about it and the game might lose it's character/soul by not playing on a PC or other legacy device. I would have the feeling of being disconnected, ironically...

It is hard to say. Mobile, for me, definitely takes down a barrier to logging in. I could see myself sitting on the couch, logging in to do some crafting while watching TV, then an LSmate says "hey wanna do X?" which I wouldn't have seen before because I wouldn't have dragged my ass into my room to fire up the monster computer to just do some crafting - so I say "yeah that sounds like fun, let me just log in on my computer."
I think what is going to hurt the game is the "no new content..." even though I am not one of these people, a lot of people already say they have nothing to do... those people are not going to stick around - that will be a massive hit to the hardcore population. The hardcore population is the only thing really moving the economy at the moment (the only things that derpy folks like me make money at are generally things I sell to more hardcore players)
The announcement of no new content means a lot of people will unsub, not seeing any point in sinking more hours into a character which will just end up deleted in a couple years (not saying it -will- happen, but a lot of people could think that)
That's really the only thing discouraging me - I don't mind if the game goes into stasis, but I don't want to think of my character being deleted. That destroys my urge to play. Like a single player game, I may never play it again but it doesn't mean I want to go delete my save files, and if I knew the save files were going to be deleted whether I liked it or not, I would probably not play it ever again.

Wait, unless I didn't understand what they said in the video the Nexon mobile version should be a separate thing that will allow you to import your char from XI but will not replace the game or have any effect on the PC version.

Well playing FF on a smartphone is not my idea of fun....buttons so little, picture so small and battery perpetually pluged to either pc or wall.
I am just wondering if this cancels the update for March...they stopped talking about it. Its the 19th already.

Raydeus,
That's how I understood things as well.
lllen,
I'm fairly certain this changes nothing about the March update.
Last they mentioned it was yesterday.

I'm not going to sit here and tell you I'm not upset regarding the announcement because I am. I am a Xbox 360 user and have been for nearly a decade. If you plan on killing off the 360 user then I ask you make it where if ppl change to a PS3 or PS4 can keep their character as Xbox 360 players know is that our characters are tied to our Xbox accounts. I would like a response because I would like to continue my FFXI experience.

Your character isn't tied to the console. I moved mine from 360 to PC years ago. You can download the whole game from the website right now as well if you want to play on PC. Some thoughtful JP guy even made custom drivers so that you can use your 360 controller (the game doesn't have native support for the trigger buttons).

I bounce from pc to 360 and back to 360 back to pc.....360 is when my pc gave up the ghost a couple of times.

The way I read it is it's a client for the game. Not something seperate.

The smart phone app will be Jp only (ugh) and feature vanadiel story and weapons but will be nothing like ffxi in reality.
The "mobile" version will be for hand held consoles (probably vita?) this will bring the FFXI world we know and love to handhelds
With very alike control's on vita/ps2 seems like a very smart idea to retain some of the ps2 jp players while adding a much more
portable ffxi experience for those with handhelds,
Should think it will be like all other client additions... once you own the game for that system just log in.
Content updates will stop, is anyone really that surprised? They have for a while after all expansions/addons and if its viable perhaps they will reconsider, much like they did pre SoA
I think over all its been positive, this could bring a huge amount of players not only back to the game with the add on and dropping the lolps2limitations, but new ones who will find it over the mobile platform/smartphone app.

The Nexon app is described as "A Native App Project Providing A Full-Fledged FINAL FANTASY XI Experience on the Mobile Platform." Calling it an "App" sounds more like a client to play a "full-fledged" FFXI rather than a separate game. It should be noted this is planned to be released world wide, even in EU markets.
Grandmasters on the other hand is described as "FINAL FANTASY GRANDMASTERS is a full-scale online RPG for smartphones that shares the characters and world setting of FINAL FANTASY XI." It's a separate game that takes place in Vana'diel. It's to be noted that currently, this is slated to be Japanese only.

Did you like....sign up to the forum and like spammed this in like 4-5 threads?.... every thread i've been to i've seen this same exact comment. For the record, xbox accounts are different from SE accounts. SE has already stated they were never gonna make a port to ps3. Pretty sure that stands the same for ps4 since they want ppl to focus on getting FFXIV for that console. You will not lose your character as all POL/FFXI accounts are stored in the Square-Enix Headquarters.
You can download the whole game from the website right now as well if you want to play on PC.
What he said-^
Furthermore, I believe microsoft said they were dropping support in 2016 for xbox360, hence why Square-Enix is dropping online services for the system. So if that's true, then don't blame Square-Enix for dropping support for 360....blame microsoft for discontinuing their 360 services.

To add to this, the shareholders' report talks about how they were planning on using cloud-based services to host the clients for MMOs and stream them to mobile devices. DQX on 3DS/tablets was the example they gave, but it would be kind of hard to get solid market penetration with a 16 gig game for smartphones, so this is probably how they're going to handle FFXI mobile.

Depends on the data file format they use. PC uses larger audio and graphics files than PS2 does. Even with Adoulin installed, the PS2 version of FFXI actually uses less than 6 GB of the hard drive space allocated to it. The rest is empty space used to juggle files if updating from a completely fresh install from the core game, and installing each expansion individually. If you browse the partition with uLaunchELF, you're looking at 5 GB of data and change. The audio on PS2 is essentially MIDI, it doesn't take up much space at all, and the graphics files are also smaller than their PC counterparts. They could feasibly do a similar trick with a mobile platform.
For one thing let's get it right, all information regarding Microsoft dropping support for the 360 is from 2013. Not saying they aren't going to do it but considering that they've been bungling things up with the XB1 it absolutely makes no sense for them to drop the Xbox live service from the console. The 360 is not the PS2, nearly every game as well as all the downloads are tied to online. You literally can't play most of them if it isn't online. Even if for argument's sake a lot of people ran out and bought the newer consoles what they going to play while they're waiting for the good games to come out? TL;DR If they actually do stop the service for the 360 people will scream bloody murder and it will KILL any momentum they may have for the XB1.

Stopping service means they stop releasing games, and stop repairing hardware. They don't have to shut the servers off. Do remember what happened with original Xbox and access to Live though...
