Going forward, the team will renew its focus on providing an enjoyable FINAL FANTASY XI experience on the Windows platform.

This comes after the statement that the main updates to the game will cease outside of bugs and balance issues. Can you elaborate on what the team will be working on for the Windows version?

Is the intent of the Native App Project on mobile platforms to replace the windows/pc version of XI, or is it meant to be a companion to the game?

is the "native app project" Literally just porting the game to mobile, or is it something entirely new?

We will work our utmost to bring everyone who has ever enjoyed Vana'diel an event to remember and hope that players both new and old will take this chance to visit our humble land and her people once more.

Thats beautiful...I'm all misty-eyed. I'm so happy that there is new expansion this year, and the game will be kept online and given the love and respect it truly deserves in its elderly years.

Seems like the masterplan is to close ffxi after the ending of rhapsode (as with no major updates, the game will enter in a stalemale).

So, my question would be if there are plans to make ffxi an offline game after online suport finishes?

So after 2 years: when ppl are done with all content, the lack of new stuff makes grinding unsustainable and ppl leave in orderly fashion, you will shutdown servers ?

I don't want a prom night event with story NPCs in shape of a fake expansion. I want to mess with the orcs and giants in Rhazowa. I want to witness the matriarchal society and dive into the mysterious Olzhiryan jungles. I want to see the destruction Emptyness caused in the far east and help them rise from their ashes.

...Maybe I want a bit too much.

So you want a short question? Here it is: ...Why?

I quasi repeat, I'd like to know the long term plans after the last of the 3 new patches are in place, will there still be actual -content- (New monsters to fight? New areas to visit? Even if at a slower pace? In the Voidwatch/Legion/Unity style of things?) Or will it purely be balance/bugfix patches from there on out forever?

Monk has some great gear but a thf Sam dnc rng easily doubles or even triples the dmg a average monk can do I just think it would be nice if a few job classes like monk weapons skill scale up just enough to do some decent damage even as a relic monk ws isn't that impressive as it takes so long to build one where someone can easily put on a delve weapon and deal nearly equal or more damage seems a bit unfair

It means they will shut the service down for those consoles just like they shut tetra master down for everyone. If you want to continue playing Final Fantasy XI online by that time, you will have to play on PC or their planned mobile service.

Which comes to my question. It's no shock the ps2 support is being dropped seeing as the international countries did not get Seekers of Adoulin for ps2 outside of Japan. Furthermore has been speculated being dropped for years because of speculation it was holding back FFXI to be improved. So the question is this: Why is the XBox360 version being dropped? (I play windows version)

Not sure if this question was ever asked before, but i am wondering if the SE producers are considering a truly FFXI movie (with all 22 jobs appearing as different characters inside the movie, without any job overpowering any)? :)

I know i may be too idealistic or childish to ask for this, but it has always been my wish to see a truly FFXI movie. Esp now, when i feel that the end is coming.... /cry >.<~~

I was thinking if there could be a ultimate delve zone which carried all mega bosses from all the previous delve zones and adding in one ultra mega boss.
Only way to get in is that each member have every delve zone completed, and in this zone H-P Blayds should drop a bit more often then anywhere else just a suggestion. I think it would be really cool.

I kinda feel like huge butt for asking for ffxi on mobile for the last 3 years via forums.... I didn't think it would cost ffxi for Xbox 360 ..... Though I'm a little excited to play ffxi on my iPad and iPad mini (to make up for me trio boxing with 2 xbox 1 PC) but I anticipate more people using third part programs to make up for this change, please reconsider keeping xbox support, or maybe releasing a version on the xbox one marketplace

Will there ever be a finish for the Chocobo Racing Quests. There was a Bronze Trophy and a Mythril Trophy, so it's kinda missing a Gold Trophy.

Also +1 on giving us a standalone offline single player version of FFXI.

Well if this really is the end, I'd like to know what your plans are to keep us as customers here in the United States. If off-line play or mobile play is your idea, you need to rethink. Those of us that have become addicted to MMORPGs of this scale will look for another. Will it be WoW, which is older than FFXI but continues to press on? Will it be some new MMORPG? Will it be FF14, which many of us were turned off of with its initial catastrophe? If you expect us to move to FF14, I suggest you offer us some incentive. I wouldn't want an already leveled character, that would ruin the game experience for those of us who like the style of play the franchise offers. Perhaps you could offer us some personalized momentos from our time on FFXI, an easy transition from XI to XIV, some nice armor that corresponds with our level of commitment to the franchise, an exclusive mount, and/or a free copy of the current version on FFIV. You'll still get our monthly fees, so the initial cost would be easy for you to soak up, even for the number of players we have. Don't get me wrong, I do thank you for 14 years, I'm just not sure I am willing to commit the next decade to another Final Fantasy if what it has to offer is on equal playing field with all the other franchises. I have experienced 14 years of joy here, which will make the end cause even more heartache.
Sorry for the huge block of letters, it must hurt the readers' eyes! Heres a final idea: tell us that we are reading into it way to much and that you don't have plans to shut it down, just to slow down its progression!

WoW is younger than FFXI about two years.
I personally won't be going to another MMORPG. Or any other game requiring online access or sporting DLCs.

Thank you to SE on sticking with development of the game all of these years. Please consider a sunset/mobile launch party/festival hosted in Oklahoma City. I think you would be shocked at the support we can give to that kind of an event in a centrally located portion of the U.S. A Friends of Final Fantasy Concert would go well here, too. We have a fully capable symphony orchestra in the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, and it would pay tribute to Maestro Levine's legacy in securing the everlasting future of classical music in our city. Plus, my girlfriend plays in the Phil. :D Lastly, to all SummonedHeroes, Assemble! We have new work to do!

I have been playing ffxi since I moved into my first apt back when I was twenty one years old, I am now thirty, I have had three accounts that I pay for each month and I always pay my subscription fees on time.

13.99 x3 = 41.97 + a few mules = $50+ per month. 50x 12 = 600 per year x 9 = $5,400 on just subscription fee's. I realize that may not be a lot to a large corporation however I feel like paying for this game any longer knowing that they are going to shut it down on xbox 360 (and I primarily play ffxi on x2 xbox360 x1 laptop) is going to be a waste of money. I really don't want to have to buy x2 more laptops to play and I don't believe in third party programming. I went to sleep last night hoping that this press conference was going to talk about ffxi on mobile gaming or ps vita but i really wasn't expecting to end gameplay on xbox 360...

I mean how hard is it really to just create a ffxi-2 like you did with all the other final fantasy's?, release it on the next generation consoles, (steam / ps4 / mobile support / wii-u / xbox one) and then offer current ffxi players some incentive like (automatically become level 50 if you port your char and keep relic / mythic weapons) ect and start the ffxi experience over again on next generation systems for another 10+ years....

I really feel like i just wasted 5 thousand dollars and I could have bought something much more valuable with my money, and now i feel like a FOOL for wasting time and money on all these Xboxes (ive been thru like 6 box 360s playing ffxi and multiple game cd's) and paying for subscription fees from both xbox and playonline.

(you know the old saying, a fool and his money are soon parted)

How could you do this to me? Stop posting adds in magazines saying that SE is ballin out of control and they don't currently see an end to either of its mmorpgs (dragon quest, XIV XI) and then 4 months later tell me that its ending.

edit; why not just put the game out on the xbox one marketplace / psn network so that way the newer systems can play ffxi, then more ppl will have access to the game, after watching southparks episode of "console wars"((My University had History of South park as an elective) it can be assumed that a lot of people ran out and bought a next gen console since their release 2 years ago, and there are still little to none MMORPGS on their market places.
I feel that converting the product solely to Windows / tablets is a good idea in some ways, but imagine how long its going to take to download the game onto the tablet initially.... and even more so with games such as "game of war" always lagging and freezing up, its going to be soo annoying having to relog into playonline---->ffxi if its a bad connection day, which implies that these new apps might not have as much online capabilities, Though I have recently played a few MMMrpgs on the app store and I'm surprised at how much can actually run on a mobile phone, I have recentlyish learned (through being a google glass adventure beta tester and paying the 1500 for glass 2 years ago and being extremely dissatisfied with the product) that not everything is as good as it may appear and I can honestly forecast that ending the xbox360 / ps2 gameplay support and trying to replace it with mobile gaming is not going to satisfy xbox/ps2 users.

You know, surprised no one has mentioned this, but why not see if there's any interest among any group of programmers that could form an indie team to work on this? Or perhaps make it possible for legal, official, private servers so the community can really keep the game going? In that situation I would imagine a whole bunch of weirdos would make broken versions but there could end up being a server or two that works and people can play that.

Or possibly try and make that FFXI single player version. Now if SE was to completely retool everything for single player, well that's not going to happen, there's too many changes they'd have to make to make some fights doable with one person. But if they release a single-player version, and say "okay mod community make this game work!" then that could work.

Pretty sure some other MMO that also went into maintenance mode a year or two ago handed off development tools to the community so they could keep it going.

No, the master plan is to close the ps2/xbox versions and then milk the PC and mobile until there's nothing left to milk.

Okay this is what im madly curious about, and its kinda nagging at me. I assume they believe the profits coming in from the playerbase isnt sufficient to justify any further development and content costs, which is why they are doing it. However i took a look at EQ and DAOC, both games that are equally if not older.

I googled and saw EQ has had 1-2 major content patches/expansions each year, and its still going, even with a supposedly smaller playerbase than ffxi.

DAOC has an expansion coming out this year, with no apparent news on shutting down, again with a smaller playerbase.

From a very bare and uneducated assumption, this seems like its possible to keep the game going on a very small budget and have it under SE's portfolio as a cash cow.

What is different with ffxi? If someone could offer some explanation, the only thing i can think of is they wish to move their finances elsewhere into some other project.

Why should long time players stick with the game- are our characters safe for years more? No one wants to put effort into a character if it is just going to be deleted.

Vana'diel is amazing like every other FF worlds, and we need more people discovering it, but a mobile port doesn't cut it (the camera angle in FF Grandmaster is totally useless), it will still feel like a "hole" in the series (actually, FFXI already feels like a "hole" to many people, and an offline spin-off is long needed)
Any plan for a full 3D spin-off? it doesn't need to be a full AAA game, and it doesn't need to cover every story from the original game. We just need a game that allow anyone to (re)discover some parts of Vana'diel.

Bluestar2kx
03-20-2015, 02:14 AM
I definitely support the idea of a offline mode type of FFXI after the game fully sunsets. (hopefully though, it never will)
Give it lan support, or make a server kit for players to run themselves with simple and understandable game master controls so we can adjust difficulty or details as needed ourselves to accommodate the number of players or challenge we want. I don't know if anyone else would, but I would pay for that kind of personal access kit, making it moddable would be most ideal so the community could keep it functioning even if windows decides it doesn't like the game anymore. (so far no issues with windows 10, but who knows about 11, 12, 13 etc...) Or even expand the game even more.. Like with minecraft. I know it's engine limited, but still, so many places of Vana'diel to see that have never been added.

So my question is: With the game entering the first stage of a long sunset in november, will all content become unlocked so we can access it with lesser number of players/solo or duo as populations dwindle? Will timers be changed? As people leave on their own sunset, prices and other things are going to become widely imbalanced, esp RME upgrade items. 2hrs in dynamis isn't going to supply people, esp if quantity drops severely, people won't be able to make anything before the final curtain draws to a close. This also goes for other time constraints.

Here's a thought - can we either make the FFXI and FFXIV subs one subscription, I.E. sub $14.99 a month for both, or at least let you get a significant discount on both of these, like $19.99 for both? I feel like most FFXI players that still want to play MMO's are going to FFXIV, if it were more affordable for people to play FFXI for the old content and nostalgia, and play FFXIV for new content, I think that would make it dramatically better for both games.

If not there's always EVE Online for your slow-paced MMO that actually makes you interact with other people, folks...

A few more thoughts, starting in 2016-ish allow more trust (up to 5) for solo play. Also have an easy/normal/difficult versions of things that require alliance since we can assume to lose some of the players. Consider trust used in alliances and in abby(just for screwing around). Introduce new bcms in the final update that have a chance to drop upgradeable items that are annoying to get, like colorless souls.. give us something to spend cruor on, like convert it to materials at crafting guild, or allow us to purchase all trust ciphers not mission related or something useful. Allow us to fully max merit points in all categories. Just random ideas to consider. But really want max merits, all trust unlocked, and full pty trust. Thank you SE for the memories!!

Please make FFXI small fee to play or making it free? and i am sure new and old players will jump back on board. Combine servers so people can do things together more efficiently. Allow character Re-creations so people can change their looks that they were stuck for long time perhaps? Make endgame content more solo friendly with npc's?

This seems like a last desperate grasp to get FFXI fans to move to FFXIV, which will fail.

Can you please clarify what you mean by "We plan to extend service to Japan, Korea, and North America, as well as Europe and the rest of Asia, with an eye toward release in 2016. Be on the lookout for a renewed FINAL FANTASY XI as a massive multiplayer mobile role playing game combining MMOs with mobile devices."?

If I go to most communities it is only doom and gloom with the game being basically put out to pasture until the subs dry up (with no new content that would eventually happen). Which discourages anyone from investing time at all, because their char will just be deleted/inaccessible. I can't imagine trying to play FFXI on a mobile platform. I don't think most others can either. Will the game be left to dry up or will the mobile platform and dev kit for it be used to continue the game both on mobile and windows? How renewed will this FFXI be, to the point of more content? I believe the answer to that will dictate the success of the next expansion.

I'm not going to sit here and tell you I'm not upset regarding the announcement because I am. I am a Xbox 360 user and have been for nearly a decade. If you plan on killing off the 360 user then I ask you make it where if ppl change to a PS3 or PS4 can keep their character as Xbox 360 players know is that our characters are tied to our Xbox accounts. I would like a response because I would like to continue my FFXI experience.

As a player whose been around since US Release, this is deeply saddening news, considering I wanted to see the rest of the far west, the far north, the far east, and the far south; not to mention see the job count rise to 30, the Avatar count rise dramatically, see Tavnazia get rebuilt with Phoenix, get a mission after The Last Verse, see a lot of the spells and abilities in the .dats come to use because they're not implemented, see crafts rise to 140, get a level system that goes to 255 (as was originally planned for ffxi), and genuinely get to enjoy a veritable cornucopia of content. That said, I take solace in that the Japanese forums have been asking all the same questions and voicing the same concerns as we have, so hopefully this will at least get answered soon enough.

My actual question is thus: Are there any plans to ease up on fishing restrictions, dynamis restrictions, einherjar restrictions, and in general any other type of fatigue system considering the game's sunset? In collusion with this question, are there any plans to rescript certain assaults that cannot be won solo?

Thank you for many years of service and memories. Most of my other questions were already asked by others, but to me, are nonetheless the most important and pressing as regards the future of my character and this game. I hope you take our voices seriously this time and make decisions with the fans in mind.

Will "Rhapsodies of Vana'diel" be primarily a story scenario series in the mold of ACP/MKE/ASA, a full-on battle scenario series like Abyssea, or something else entirely?

Will the subscription model on this game change? I'm no expert but I seriously cannot imagine Nexon would have signed off on making a game with a $14/month subscription fee, even if I personally don't mind paying it for such an old game so long as it's entertaining.

Can players look forward to further power increases or lowered RME requirements to make us less reliant on the crafting/farming efforts of others (effectively sunsetting gil as a meaningful resource)? As difficult as it is to make a mythic now, a further declining population will make coming up with 30,000 alexandrite basically impossible. Not for nothing, given the circumstances I feel somewhat justified in saying that at the end of it all, I think we're owed a mythic grind 1/5th the size of the current one, or less.

If you plan on killing off the 360 user then I ask you make it where if ppl change to a PS3 or PS4 can keep their character as Xbox 360 players know is that our characters are tied to our Xbox accounts. I would like a response because I would like to continue my FFXI experience.

You have it wrong, the Xbox Live account link is only for logging in on Xbox 360. It has no effect on logging in on PS2 or PC. You can only link on a 1-to-1 basis, PlayOnline accounts and Xbox Live Gamertags. Linking the account has no effect on being able to log in on other platforms. If you tried on PC right now, you'd be able to do it with no trouble. Your character is tied to the PlayOnline account, not the Xbox account.

Any chance with the removal of console clients, and thus the reliance on the ATOK IME that Japanese text input can be enabled for people using the English client?

Just a suggestion, but if you want to install multiple clients on the same computer without using a third party tool, you could look into dual booting Windows and a GNU/Linux OS such as Kubuntu and install using Wine (multiple wineprefixes). For several years, I used to run 4 clients on the same machine and alt-tabbed between them using the Windows key + left key/right key on the keyboard. Granted I had to run them in Windowed mode and not full screen, plus I haven't tried using a controller, but it worked really well. Here is a little information about FFXI using WINE https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=2739

Laptops aren't great for multiboxing anyway. Build a gaming tower with a decent amount of RAM, and run FFXI inside VirtualBox instances or such, and then you can have multiple FFXI instances running at once, each in their own virtual machine. Otherwise, the offiical client, on console and PC, only supports one instance per OS. You cna either use the unofficial fix, or use virtual machines. You already bought multiple consoles, what's wrong with multiple computers, when FFXI runs on the cheapest computers on the market?

Monk has some great gear but a thf Sam dnc rng easily doubles or even triples the dmg a average monk can do I just think it would be nice if a few job classes like monk weapons skill scale up just enough to do some decent damage even as a relic monk ws isn't that impressive as it takes so long to build one where someone can easily put on a delve weapon and deal nearly equal or more damage seems a bit unfair

THF pops up impressive numbers but a good MNK still does about the same damage as a good THF when you take DPS into consideration and as a bonus doesn't get oneshot by delve bosses the way THF does.

Pay closer attention: the Norg ship is a barge, not an airship. It was noted several years ago that, shortly after it leaves dock, the Selbina/Mhaura ship is attacked by PIRATES. It makes sense that a pirate raiding ship would use a secret pirate towns secret dock as its home base.

Because now I have to spend MORE money, and I already have an alien ware for gaming as well as 5 pcs that I use for gaming,my problem is now in order to play i have to spend more money to replace hardware as well, and when you multiple accounts on 1 device, the game runs significantly slower which is why I play on consoles primarily and not my towers. Not to mention that xboxs can't get viruses....

Believe me, over the last 10 years I have fully explored ways to play ffxi (from using my portable ps2 , to using my swivel/cinemin video projectors and playing it in my expedition SUV) the reason I'm not so happy about them taking away xbox support is because I have found it to be the best way for ME to play the game. The reason I bought all these devices was to play ffxi on a console, when I travel out of the country playing it on my very pricy Alienware (which I customized online and bought from the AW site specifically for ffxi) is more ideal however I enjoy xbox ffxi at home and It sucks I have to say goodbye to something that I still currently use on an everyday basis.

I literally have spent a lot of my earnings and stipends (I'm in entertainment) on enjoying ffxi as to the max, when I purchased my first house I made an arcade room where I could comfortably sit and play ffxi (as well as about 10 stand up arcade machines which mainly run on RAM/ROM) it sucks that I'm also going to have to modify my arcade room as well if I continue to play ffxi.

The other benefit to playing on xbox and NOT running all my chars on 1 system is when I have friends over , they can sit at a ffxi station in my arcade and play the game on xbox with me.

As I stated I have multiple gaming pcs and laptops and game copies so quickly acclimating myself to this change wouldn't take more than the version updates, however I have always found ffxi to be superior on a console due to the ability to not screw up ur laptop / tower. The more third party programs you install on ur PC the more risk u have to viruses which can't be fixed with antivirus software and it's tedious removing viruses.

Lastly, I usually move 2 chars at the same time (which is easy with practice since I play piano) so I prefer to have full access over my chars vs letting a program use them / alt tab, I've always been anti PC games and pro console games so I am heavily effected by this

Well when I first read it, it was my understanding that they are making it so both windows and pc players can communicate and play together on the severs with the characters you already have.

Honestly there was a point in my life when I wouldn't wanted the FFXI game to come to a end like all of you players out there but with my real social life dwindling, relationships in person never formed, a broken relationship or relationships after all the years of play, I've come to a reconsideration of everything i've ever done wasting my time away on games and just seems its becoming a great blessing that i'll be getting a more productive social life for once... as i've been trying to get away from games for a long time in which it looks like I will be able to buy stuff from david wygant finally after the game ends which would help my social life in various ways and who knows the mobile version of ffxi implemented with another name in an expansion form just might be what the doctor ordered to get out and be social while still able to play ffxi on the go everywhere you are with a mobile device.

An Interesting note as to what could've been on the game creators minds when they decided to go into mobile with ffxi: If any of you ever installed the nvidia experience program/app on your computer's, you all know about there incorporating a system called game streaming with their Shield Tablet or Shield Portable Devices that allows you to play a game on your computer but can instantly switch it to the Shield Tablet/Portable and continue playing right the exact moment you're at in the game or left off at the point on the pc.

This is what I was thinking about when they mentioned about the economy market of the changing times, there is now a lot of devices out there in which they'll allow you to watch movies, etc. say from your cable/satellite tv moving it on over to your mobile phones to continue right where you left off watching the movie/show and even some games out now that have implemented this method of play into their system/game and what this does is makes me wonder if this is the exact method they have planned for ffxi going into mobile?

 Now how cool is that if you can continue playing your pc game right the exact second you're at in the game on your mobile device if something arose where you had to get going in where you had to leave the house?? I'd think it be a brainy-cool idea for FFXI gamers playing the game. :o

Edit: I'm sure the creators/?sponsors? considered every option or avenue in there players and anticipated the questions they may receive before going ahead with there decisions with futures of ffxi and I wouldn't doubt its the reason they gave a year in advance notice to give everyone time to prepare for the switch and even maybe purchase what needs to be done ahead of time before the set date arrives for permanent changes to be perceived.

You can get a PC about the same size as an xbox 360 that will run this for @ $100 and use your xbox controllers. All you need to install is a driver for controller support. 3rd party programs are optional (and prohibited).

We actually got a sort of official response on this :)
Yoshitsugu Saito: That’s a good question! (laughs) But putting all jokes aside, Norg has its own burgeoning markets in addition to its den of piracy, and as such often engages in trade with nearby islands. As such, it occupies a place similar to Mhaura and Selbina—there is no one set location.

Now that the development team will not be making new content anymore, what will their next task be? Will we get another full-fledged (non-mobile), Vana'diel-based game? Or will the team disband and go their separate ways to other projects (FFXIV, DQ, FFXVI...)?

It works on 8.1, I've been using it for a while

Basically you have to liturally manually turn on the Legacy Features in 8.1 by going to control panel, Programs and features, and finding "Turn Windows features on or off" and here is the link with instructions on how to do it: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=10&mid=138212467588909672 but take careful noting that you do not have to reinstall windows 8.1/8.1 pro to do this method. Also it may require the windows 7 windows playonline viewer install that can be found on the playonline's website but I can't help but wonder with windows 10 coming out not to long from now, if it might be part of the cause for change/taking a different direction for the ffxi game.

PS2 and Xbox 360 support from the console manufacturers is ending next year. How is SE supposed to keep supporting it when official support channels are closing. They did the same thing wwhen Win98 and Win2000 were dropped by Microsoft. You're complaining about first-world problems that most people don't have. If you set up right, you can duplicate the console experience on an inexpensive PC. PCs usually have a 5 year lifespan, while consoles usually have a 5-10 year life span. Well PS2 will be 16 next year, and Xbox 360 will be 10. You could always play on your smartphone...

I want this. I could care less about mobile support. Even if FFXI has to go down for a few months like FFXIV 1.0 did, I'd be totally fine with that as the finished product will be worth waiting for. You make a two-for-one subscription to FFXIV and basically bank on two horses at once.

Can a single player version of this game be released? I go back, sometimes, and play all of the other Final Fantasy games. To have XI, the one I have the most fond memories of, be unplayable ever again would be depressing.

At the very least, if you do end up shutting the game down, one day, can you allow individuals to set up their own servers without suing them into stopping?

My favorite way to play ffxi: 2 xbox controllers and 1 keyboard

Well you won't have to for a year...but you could get a usb controller and AVI port that is pretty similar to a console experience. You can configure it to "alt tab" with a single button. You don't HAVE to use 3rd party programs on PC version either.

I guess the main diff is the company has 2 other major and far newer MMOs and the board saw the subs for this one continue to dwindle and that the last expansion only lowered the # of subs. They probly want 11 dev team working on the other MMOs. We're getting to the point that they had to decide between raising the iLvl or wrapping it up...and they chose the latter

Other diffs is the issues with sony/microsoft over adding new content with limited resources. Cut off ps2/xbox as they're doing and you might see closer to EQ numbers. In addition, they may hope that some # of 11 players will move on to 14 long term.

I really feel like i just wasted 5 thousand dollars and I could have bought something much more valuable with my money, and now i feel like a FOOL for wasting time and money on all these Xboxes (ive been thru like 6 box 360s playing ffxi and multiple game cd's) and paying for subscription fees from both xbox and playonline.

edit; why not just put the game out on the xbox one marketplace / psn network so that way the newer systems can play ffxi,

The newer consoles aren't backwards compatible. This would take an investment and cooperation and a percentage from microsoft. Also some of the 'minor' updates after november might include things the consoles can't handle, ps2 especially (much more storage space etc)

Wasted? Nothing lasts forever i'm afraid, including $. So many of us would've spent more than $500/yr at a bar or other games. Well guess what, that is "wasted" just as much. You know what's not wasted is the memories

Will Matsui answer some of our questions on the next freshly picked Vana'diel?

Blah
03-20-2015, 11:46 PM
The answer is no because they are backing away with the console market not many players play it on those also they will have to invest a lot more time to put it on Wii-U I don't see it happening.

Ah excuse me but this thread is specifically for us to ask questions for them to answer not for everyone else to hop on and answer like they're the authority on the matter. Just because they haven't yet answered doesn't mean they won't, by the way.

Your assumption does seem realistic, based on the process and timeline in which FF14 was introduced. However, if i were the one making the decision, and I dont presume I know the intricate methodology of their business, I would simply cut down the development drastically, BUT continue developing the game and continue reaping profits, because it in fact has proven itself to be very stable given the sheer amount of time people have been hanging on to the game.

It wouldn't be a great loss financially to divert a majority of the developers over to 14, if they so wish, and simply create a schedule of perhaps one content update every 2 years, even once in 3 years if they like. That in itself would not be received extremely well by the community, however the psychology is sound in that people see a foreseeable future for the game.

To hope that some of the 11 players will move to 14 long term is a risky endeavour at best. Essentially if 11 players move on, there are no extra profits involved in that it's merely swapping one subscription for another, and the high likelihood that a lot of people dont even move over and either stop gaming or play other games.

In addition, they absolutely must see that FFXI is a game that holds extreme longevity, and that the theme park model of ff14, while very well received at the moment, may not offer similar longevity, given the lack of socialization and community, which is pretty much what binds people to a game in the first place. It seems a terrible mistake to bank everything on ff14 on the premise that at this very point in time, it offers higher margins on a sales chart. That seems to be like a horrible lack of foresight and a risky gamble.

Of course, if ffxi in itself is not making any profit and creating losses, then i fully understand their decision. However, in comparison with other games, we can safely assume they are making a profit, even though small. They just seem to not want to be bothered just to earn smaller profits, and in the end alienating their loyal players and creating distrust. In the end, is that worth the damage to their company reputation as a whole?

If they could do this to ffxi, I wouldnt want to go to ff14 either, because it's a vastly more volatile game by way of subscribership and they could shut that down at any point in time too.

I can only imagine the amount they made with Seekers, it must have been decent. I have no idea why they feel this will be the most profitable but to me it doesn't seem so. A new expansion could easily increase sub numbers provided ps2/xbox are dropped and we see big changes, they probably didn't think it was worth the time.

I'm confused by this note. I installed FFXI on my 8.1 laptop last December and also on a surface pro 3 a few weeks ago. It plays beautifully on the laptop and better than I expected on the Surface Pro without changing any windows legacy settings or anything else special that I can think of. I just installed, configured the display settings and joystick, and played. I thought it was easier than the past.

Are job point categories and gifts going to be expanded at all?
They currently cap out at 10 points per item and it was originally stated they would expand up to 30.
I would like to see them expanded to 30pts per category and more gifts added.

My favorite jobs have 100-150ish job points currently, I like the jobpoint+gift system and would like it to be something that continues to allow small increments of character growth for those of us playing beyond the end of 2015.

There could have been some changes to the games mechanic's from the game creator's since I had problems to run the game Kylani as to why it worked so well for you or it could be just type of system you installed it on that allowed it to install easy. I hope you clicked on the link I provided as well?

I was just assuming the person I was responding to was having the same windows 8/8.1 problems I had to get the ffxi game to run on my windows 8.1 alienware 18 laptop from the pol viewer screen where upon hitting play ffxi an error message would pop up stating you need to have direct play installed to play this game. The windows 8/8.1 originally by default had Direct Play set/turned to off under its legacy settings where you had to go find it and click on the box next to it to put a checkmark into the box in order to turn it on.

Back when I having the problem to run the game on my laptop, I called SE's tech support without a ticket marker stating the problem as to the reason of my call and waited for at least an hour, maybe more for their response to my phone call but finally getting a person on the phone to respond telling them of my problem about it popping up the Needs to have Direct Play installed to play the ffxi game issue on my alienware laptop with windows 8.1, There response was sure its not recommended to play ffxi on windows 8 as it's not even made to run on windows 8 as of yet, so upon their wasting my time with calling in the first place, I went on a googling search to see what I could dig up on the problem that might fix the issue and also contacted an old ffxi player on my fb list which is good with knowledge to this type of stuff in which he directed me to the website link I have posted above and talked me through getting it to work but he had to know what type of set up my windows 8.1 was set up as for an operating system.

Just thought I'd add I dont play with a joystick, just my laptops keyboard as the software I've looked into in which allow me to use an very extremely old huge controller to play the game's softwares that i've looked into seemed to have a possibility to allow malware through it use of them.

Will they ever allow us to be able to pearl sack our characters on the same account since as of now as far as I know it we arent able to log into both characters on the same account?

With the change to mobile coming will they allow a feature where you're able to be logged into the same character on two different devices at the same time such as your pc and mobile device to make it easy to be staying in the game with an easy switching from one device onto the other device?
This would also allow us to pearl sack our other characters on the same account in which we are the leader to the ls with both/all characters on the same LS as well.

Why do this then announce the end of updates? Wonder if something else is planned. Who knows. Makes me wonder what to do now as I play on Xbox and own all Apple products at home. Sad day.

sounds like you will need to update the Xbox or buy another console. that said, an old windows PC, bought used is actually likely to run the game BETTER than a new one as there have been serious issues with this game and certain newer video cards, although certainly not always. but an XP or earlier system will not only run it, but run it without the need for backwards compatibility features.

which begs the question, will older versions of Windows also not be supported?

now, my REAL question is whether there will be new expansion packs in the future? In my opinion this is the best MMORPG out there, including SE's other products, and as things stand the day they unplug the servers is the day I quit gaming, entirely. Of course, a new product COULD come out between now and then, but 14 isn't it for me, so it will have to be an actual new product of the quality of 11. and I don't see anyone working on anything that remotely fits that description.

Macintosh computers since the Intel changeover in 2006, are able to run Windows natively via Bootcamp. Buy a copy of Windows for about $100 and install it on your Mac. Thney haven't said which platforms their mobile FFXI client will be on, but iPhone/iPad is a good bet given their past track record, as well as Android. Windows Phone and RT are more of a mystery.

why drop ps2 and 360 when you can just do a server marge and it dose the same thing. A server merge is a waaay better idea than the current one. I know that the dev team wants to be over and done with ffxi, but there are alot of ppl that still play ffxi. I have asked some of my friends that still play, and most of them don't like ffxiv, cant play because of console issues. or just plain don't understad gameplay. Merge the servers! Make it free to play once you're done with it! Make it offline. You've pretty much made the game to where we can solo it alone, make it so we can play it offline. Don't just throw a great game out for good. Yes all good things must come to an end and we all should cherish our memories. I mean.. i met my husband on this game. I guess that's why I don't want to say goodbye, but I still think its a dumb move SE. When you're down to 1 server and only 20 ppl play, then I say.. ok.. time to kill this horse. There are still a good amount of ppl that play if you combine the servers.

This decision is likely not SE's alone. I think the console versions require special login server stuff from Microsoft and Sony, and with the consoles so outdated I think the console companies been wanting to retire that equipment for some time.

FFXI requires a working DNAS server to forward the connection. Xbox 360 passes it through Live. DNAS will likely shut down in a year. Live may not, but SE doesn't have to continue patching the Xbox client to match the PC client, which will cause a version mismatch and break the game on that console.

Number of questions that I can think of to say the least.

1) In regards to the updates after November its stated that there will be no more major version updates. Does this mean after November the only things that will happen will be just bug fixes and QoL adjustments? Or is the end of major updates just in regards to story lines themselves and new things like Dynamis for example might get added after this in post November updates?

2) In regards to the termination of Xbox360/PS2 with the termination of these services and the sole remaining platform being the windows system will the PC version simply just be maintained as is with just minor fixes or will things like the UI redevelopment, decommissioning of PoL, upgrade/replacement of the old game engine be looked at again?

3) In regards to server merges will these be happening for the less populated servers in the near future?

4) In regards to the future alot of people have felt that the announcement is basically a "sunset" for the game and that some of the console players even think the game is shutting down entirely. What people might want to ask is SE simply gonna wind down the game outright over time including the loss of all the lore or would they sometime down the road do an ARR style relaunch of the game retaining all the main campaign storylines rather than let a numbered FF drop out of existence?

5) Will SE ever impliment those remaining spells that players currently havent got access to for players enen tho mobs have them (examples: Banish 4/5, Banishga 3~5, elemental aga 4/5, Poisonga 2~5, Poison 3~5, Bio 4/5, Dia 4/5, Diaga 2~5)

6) Will SE reintroduce discounted subs for those concurrently subscribed to FF14?

7) Would it ever be possible to introduce a Race change feature?

I know you weren't asking me but they already answered this in the stream. There will be NO MORE UPDATES aside from occasional tweaks like bugs/balancing. Unless they decide that "balancing" entails giving us banish 5, it will come by november or never. And you know job balancing is one of those things they bury in patch notes. There sure as hell won't be a relaunch like ARR

You will be better able to let go if you think of november as the end of updates period, which it basically is, and stop asking/expecting new things

I agree with a lot of what you say, but even an update every 2-3 years, for it to keep anyone around, would have to be expansion caliber. That costs millions and the PS2 which half of jp plays on, cannot handle further updates.

If i were in charge, from a business PoV i would do 2-4 updates a year plus at least more iLvL phase, until down to 30k subscribers. However...perhaps they also feel it would be dishonorable to update the game after PS2 is done. Keep in mind this game started in japan on PS2

14 has been increasing subscribers. It simply has newer graphics. A PS2 era game isn't going to appeal to new gamers, no matter how enjoyable it is to the rest of us. So in terms of longevity, 14 may or may not succeed, but 11 will never have over 100k subscribers again. That's why investing in 11 is a far greater risk

yes but how many people will continue playing with no updated content?

Look at how many kept playing as ToA ended and WotG was a huge letdown, all the way to abyssea. With CP updates, skirmish, the coming update, the "finale" - that could all sustain for a year from now. Then you have the usual grind after that, which, who knows but some will want to try out new R/E/M if nothing else

I'd say the answer lies in whether it goes free to play and if trust boost allows us to solo more

not the same thing lol there were updates in the game itself... when there are 0 world wide it will be a huge difference

i dont think levling is the problem per say i think its money, the game revolves around the AH so they need to significantly boost NPC if you sell items or merge servers

i think it will be like SW galaxies youll have a fan base that stay but the numbers wont be there yet they say they will continue to make windows a good expirence... but how without any updates?? new graphics? some other way?

Um... this isn't up to them actually.
If you just install the right drivers you should be able to configure the gamepad just fine.

It is up to them. The game doesn't support input from the triggers. They can fix that on the game client. People shouldn't be required to install unsigned third party drivers in order to use the most commonly owned game controllers on the planet.

Star Wars Galaxies is gone outside of private servers. Those DEVs were so stupid and hurtful to their fans. I loved SWG pre-CU and I quit shortly after that since all my friends left. The P servers are still there. I remember I logged in to retail once to see how it was and my city was gone. I looked around and found one person and they were really desperate to make new friends and get me to join and they kept repeating please don't quit and are you going to quit? I joined them but eventually had to stop playing because I was bored and found FFXI more fun. I kept thinking to myself, wow I hope that never happens to FFXI and I guess it might lol. Anyways, they have private servers still up for that, I've been meaning to give it a try.

Hail, adventurers! Matsui here with an update for you.
We are pleased you all enjoyed the press conference in which we showcased our aspirations to bring forth a joint collaboration between SquareEnix and Capcom called Final Fantasy Monster Hunter Online. The combat will be of Capcom's design and Monster Hunter glory while the storyline, mythology, and universe of Final Fantasy will fill in the void that is missing from past iterations of the Monster Hunter franchise. We hope you all enjoy our new MMO titled Final Fantasy Monster Hunter Online due out sometime in 2016.
We would also like to announce our prolonged commitment to FFXI by expanding the Vana'diel universe with FFXI 2.0 due out sometime in 2016 as well and both games shall be PS4 and PC exclusives. Enjoy!
Ftfy. No offense. If translated into Japanese and posted on the Japanese threads they would all go bananas over such News. This is the conference news everyone wanted to watch ._.

Why are people saying there is only 30 people per server. There was over 1500 last time I signed on. That is plenty crap even ultima online and rag online are still going and they have been on forever. With barely any player base. I'm really interested in this 2.0 was that a joke or is it seriously in the works.

You understand the word "Perfection"? Cause that's exactly the possibility of what would occur with such a collaboration. My comments are more to spark some interest amongst the Devs themselves so heh. I'll just play both since I'm aware how great both franchises are. Thanks for the input. The insight was impactful.

I saw a similar questions asked but I feel its important to ask these again:

After the console server has been shut down will the windows version of FFXI get an major updates in the future?

If the demand is there to continue this game on windows for years to come, would there be a chance for Xbox one and PS4 port?

Is there chance of revamping like what what was done with FF14?

If the game is ever shut down for good is there a chance to release a offline version of the game? This way we can revisit or favorite zones and listen to the great music?

In the new content can we have new and exciting zones? Ones that build of previously mentioned zones in previous expansions?

Can there be new summons for summoner?

Are there going to be server mergers?

Are the achievements on xbox 360 version of the game available through the windows version?

Is it possible to release a physical memento to final fantasy xi and do a preorder setup to see who is interested in buying such a thing?

I would love to see this game stick around. I love this game and I have made and met so many special people playing this game. I do not wish to see it go away/have no new content added to it.

There was some discussion from the devs on improving certain areas of the game ex: redesigned Mog house, visual effects to resource(mining/logging) points in original areas etc.

I'm just wondering if ideas like these will be short listed now so you can fully focus on Rhapsodies of Vana’diel?

Also where is our damn Black Belt v2:confused:

We went nearly 8 months without updates before ToAH and we did fine. Alot of us have been through the muck with this game but we stayed strong. Simply put we love this game, it is part of our lives and memories, and we just do not want to give up this old horse for a new shiny one. To all of you under the assumption the game will end if they stop major updates, It will be around longer then you might think so stop worrying about something you cant change, the only thing you, and all of us can really do is...play. They can always change their decisions like they have many many of time. I love this game and I love all the people in this game, even the people I cant stand because you just made me stronger over the years.

Dear Mr. Matsui,

Love FFXI like we do.

Thanks, I did click on the link, and I didn't have to do any of the things mentioned, so maybe SE did fix the issues. Previously, I dreaded re-installing because it was always a pain, so I was actually pleasantly surprised I didn't have issues these last times. :)

btw - I play with a logitech gamepad, not a joystick. I haven't used a joystick since the old atari days, but I keep calling them joysticks. I need to break the habit, but I don't talk about them much, lol.

It is nice to see some like minded people on here, particularly Sayomi up above me. I would like to mirror those exact feelings completely and reiterate exactly what she said.

I began playing this game just months after it was released in North America, however many years ago that was. I was at a tough spot in my life then and have been in many tough spots in my life since. I've had to relocate around the country several times, had to leave my home where I grew up, but no matter what I always knew Vana'Diel was there. As silly as it may sound it felt more like a real home than any real place I've lived in my whole life. Furthermore, it enhanced my real life, it enhanced my view on the world and the beauty of both nature and exploration, things I never really appreciated before Vana'Diel. I will admit, I played for way too many hours a day for a good number of years, but then I figured out how to balance my life and FFXI together, once I did I enjoyed both much more. Wherever I worked, whatever I did, I always looked forward to going home and going back into Vana'Diel.

I remember all the friends that I made along the way. It chokes me up and almost brings me to tears just thinking about them. I do hope that with dropping the PS2 support and Xbox support that maybe now the Friends List can be uncapped and it would be really cool if we could see all the people we ever added or whoever was on our friends list. So many people I had to delete because of the 200 cap limit on the Friends List. I think back at what amazing friends I met on FFXI, the trials and tribulations we went through together, helping each other with missions and quests, gaining experience together in parties, fighting the big dragons and HNM's together. I lost contact with most of these friends and it hurts dearly, I truly miss them and I miss adventuring with them.

No other MMORPG can even begin to replicate what FFXI was. FFXI was to me much more than a game, it was an online world. One where like a true world, you had to really work hard at it but it could be done. One where adversity only strengthened the bonds and friendships you had made. One so expansive, with such rich lore, with such a well balanced story and back story that you truly felt you were not just a part of another world, but one more incredible than any other story has ever told. I've played FFXIV since the original Alpha. It's shiny, it's pretty, it has some fun points to it but it just feels like a game and it feels like it tries way too hard in certain aspects. I've played other MMORPG's, Aion, WoW, Lineage 2. They were fun and interesting but again, they felt like video games. Other MMORPG's always have felt confined, even FFXIV it feels so limited, but FFXI always had this feel like the horizon was only the beginning of another land, that there were so many places to discover, that the world had no limits and that endless possibilities were laid out before you. No other "game" has ever recreated that feeling for me.

Vana'Diel felt like something else, like another world I was blessed to be a part of and adventure in. It gave me hope, it inspired me and it made me believe there is more to life than meets the eyes. FFXI taught me how to feel things deeper within than I knew before hand or would have known on my own. Not a day goes by that I wish instead of redirecting their focus to a new game that Square Enix would have dropped whichever console support back then and done whatever they must to keep the world of Vana'Diel flourishing. A major graphics update, adding big expansions with huge new areas, continuing to expand on a world with endless possibilities.

FFXI to me is the greatest piece of art ever created. I hope dearly that no matter what they preserve it. If content updates must come to a halt for now than so be it, but I hope and pray they continue to maintain it, fix bugs and monitor the quality of life adjustments so that even if new things cannot be had, those we already love can be enhanced and enjoyed for many years to come. My life on this planet just like anyone else's is limited. One day, in such a short time we will be gone. I always had hope that given the age of technology we live in, until that day should come, Vana'Diel would always be there waiting on me. I don't see a reason why something built by man so incredible must "die" or "be forgotten" when things like the Mona Lisa and the Bible have lasted for thousands upon thousands of years, preserved and still loved by many. As silly as it may be in comparison again, we live in a digital age of technology, so I believe preserving something like Vana'Diel is very important. I think in not doing so it would go to prove that Square Enix cares only for a quick buck and nothing more, I guess as many differences as I've had with them over the years I have more faith in them than that.

Please preserve this beautiful thing you have created and all the dear memories so many people have within it that are so much more to them than just a game. You created something much more than you had imagined.

Once the PS2/Xbox 360 versions cease to exist, how long do you plan to keep the PC version servers up and running?

It is reasonable to assume the answer to this will be some variation on "as long as the revenue outweighs the costs, leading to a net profit coming from continued operation of FFXI, service will continue."

Well said, but i don't think u need to worry about the servers shutting down for PC. They're a long way from that

But yeah the community on this game was always superior to any ORPG (i can't even bring myself to add "massively multiplayer") since then. Of course the endless WoW arcade mode clones is the reason for that. You hook up with up to 5 random ppl for some dungeon and the PT breaks the minute the boss is killed. I mean your "friends" won't even wait to raise you so you can get loot...i cannot imagine that happening in FFXI

I would like to ask what are the pre-requisites for the 3 chapters? For example, do we need to have rank 10 in all 3 nations or have done all the past nation path quests in order to proceed onto the add-ons/expansions?

If so, can you give us some warning so we can make sure we are in a good position.

Also, for the Xbox360/PS2 owners, an idea would be they can log into Steam, submit their current installation codes & current Square Enix username/password through a pop-up window on Steam & then download the appropriate game content they paid for on Windows for free.

Petition for

We are asking Square Enix to continue to develop content, story and expansions for FFXI.

About Final Fantasy XI

Final Fantasy XI is entering its 14th year this year (2015), it is the first MMORPG made of the great Final Fantasy series and the best Final Fantasy Hiromichi Tanaka san has worked on.

Many people including me, spent a lot of time playing Final Fantasy XI, a life time, including myself. the game has grown and so did we. I played since I was a student and now am an adults. Some even have their children play the game with them. I even met my wife in the game and married her. The game also made people from all over the world meet and befriend each other. Final Fantasy XI is the play ground of a lot of people, it is a meeting place, was the place of the international exchange. And beyond the concept of Final Fantasy XI game now, it becomes a community, for many people around the world, part of the life style, has become an indispensable infrastructure.

The petition is dual-language that I have seen. English is below the Japanese.

Greetings, everyone.

I was able to collect a few more answers to some of the other questions that appeared in this thread.

Can Summoners please get Bahamut now?

There are no plans to add Bahamut as an avatar for summoners. We would like to focus on adding new elements and adjustments to the current avatars.

can monk please get a ws boost
We feel that monks are already dealing a steady amount of damage through all their auto-attacks, and as such we do not have any plans to enhance their weapon skills.

I was thinking if there could be a ultimate delve zone which carried all mega bosses from all the previous delve zones and adding in one ultra mega boss.
This is a really fun and exciting idea, but we still haven’t finalized the necessary development time and resources required for Rhapsodies of Vana’diel. We can’t make any promises at the moment, but we’ll look into it as a future idea.

Will we see any updates for relic and mythic holders boost in weapon damage or boost in afterglow in the future?
We’d like to treat Relic, Mythic, Empyrean, and Ergon weapons very carefully. We understand that these are very special for their owners, but we need to proceed carefully giving consideration towards other equipment and battle content. We’ve been receiving a lot of feedback on these extraordinary pieces of equipment, and we will try and look into adding an additional element; however, we would like some time to discuss this.
