View Full Version : Trial of the Magians
With most other weapon/armor stages being upgraded to item level 119 - would really be nice to have this done with Trial of the Magians as well.
I put a lot of hours into building my Khada +2. It sucks that it's useless now due to it being stuck at item level 99. So I hope you consider putting this on the agenda.

Weapon wise only the R/E/M have been upgraded to 119.
Apart from that Alluvion Skirmish weapons are providing a much better alternative to these.
Just toss the thing and move on.

There is no Alluvion Skirmish Weapon that effectively replaces my Khanda +2. So they might present you with much better alternatives but not so much me.
The just toss the thing and move on comment could have been said about all the other weapon/armor stage upgrades as well. So that's not really a productive way to look at it. From my point of view: there is no good reason not to allow players to upgrade their Magian Weapons.

Actually, Dale, that's exactly what's going on. Just toss it and move on. SE already said they won't do anything more with TOM. I know you put a lot of work into those weapons, but so did everyone else. I would have loved to take my pet evasion and pdt axes to 119, but that's not going to happen. Just move on.

Developers have been known to change their minds. Just because they may have said they won't do anything more with TOM doesn't mean they can't be convinced to re-evaluate their stance or at least come up with some sort of compromise.

There's just too many magian trials for the devs to keep going with that system. There's hundreds of weapons and people only really want a handful of them upgraded. It would be a better use of the devs time to add in new versions of a few of those weapons and just drop the system entirely.

I still have 22 of my Magian Trial weapons in my Mog House. I'm sitting here typing this in my *I <3 Magian Weapons* t-shirt. I'm never tossing any of them, they are My Precioussss.
I still use my Pet PDT h2h if I'm playing remote and not meleeing.
I would still use my TPBonus magian dagger and sword too, and my multi-hit magians, but obviously they don't hit mobs like they used to, lol.

I don't agree with the "just toss it" idea. ToM was nice for building a weapon that suited your playstyle. I found it also gave me something else to do if I was out getting xp or whatever solo. It may not have been efficient for some people, but it worked perfectly for what I enjoyed doing. Gave me more a sense of progression on my character, knowing that my choice of weapon would be getting a little bit better 5 levels from now.
For a game that always seemed to be about side-grading or slight improvements, tossing what you had and completely starting over has been a hard pill to swallow.

Khanda's were never good, and a lot of us built DOZENS of TOM weapons and aren't complaining. Drop it if you want the space that bad.

Don't think I could ever discard my, Ursa Majors 2~8 punchies per volley.
The TP gain on those? unmatched (well, for what I got in my inventory atleast.)
Would love to be able to 119 all those old Claws though, especially the Dumuzis.. Victory Smite is funky ^_^

Eeeeeeeeeh, you do know you can just trade those to a point in Walk of Echoes and use VS on any Hand-to-hand weapon, right?

Without doing any quests? just a straight trade?
Sounds too good to be true. o_o

Yep, too good to be true.
Don't have any Voidwatch wins.

I'd say now is a good time as ever to start, all you need is the wins for the 3 starter cities. Which is quite easy to low man.

I'd like to second that it's easy to low-man; I've trioed it with RDM PUP and NIN, mostly in sparks gear or at best reforged AF109 in slots. I could have easily soloed most of them, though the T4s and a few of the others like the behemoth are a bit more annoying without a few folks.
But yeah, set up a run for 3-5 people, don't even bother with procs, just faceroll your way through and you can unlock your WS.

Not sure what you're trying to say here, but Khanga is something I've never heard of until I googled it.
Come to think of it, I think my parents would appreciate that as a gift.

What ever it is called. Maybe it was the Khada then. I'll go back and change it to that.

For a lot of things sure but a lot of the good stuff was good because it had stats that to this day are rarely seen at least in those amounts. Still best tp bonus, ws dmg stat and some specific pet stats. Best for elemental affinity so if they added some macc and mdmg with the ilvl the staffs would be best again etc. Similarly with the oa2-4 hasn't really come back. A good oat rate weapon has in the form of wkr weapons but those are only 115.
Honestly though I just like the system better. Progression instead of rng and throwing gil at things

I would love to see some of the lower level weapons made into their 119 counterparts, such as Charmers Merlin.

I came to this thread to say I support the idea. Don't make all that time and effort you put into making the Magian a waste. People really like upgrading stuff as well as making incremental progress that isn't random.
SE already said they won't do anything more with TOM.
When was this? This is the first I've heard of it.
Edit: In fact, there's only been three mentions of Magian by a dev since the release of Seekers, none of which even talk about the system.

They did say that they didn't plan to upgrade these, but that was a long time ago. They've changed their minds about a lot of stuff since then so...

The only thing I recall is that they didn't plan to upgrade RMEs to 119, and we all know how that ended.

Trial of the Magians Elemental staves... still have all... SE can upgrade it to 119. Is not that hard to implement. Add magic acc, magic damage and maybe some MAB. Perfect.

If SE came to you and asked if you'd prefer they expend time and resources creating new magian missions for the hundreds of different weapons and armor available rather than developing new content, what would you say?
Catmato

You ask that like there's a story or something for upgrading magian weapons. I realize it takes time to update that many trials, but it's not like it would take weeks to add a "trade me 200 plutons to 119 this weapon" trial to all the 99 magian weapons.

Cat, think about what you're saying. This is the SE devs you're talking about.
