Hello,
I thought about that and I did it on my Photoshop, it could be so cool and boost ffxi community don't you think?

Funny cause the way you did it, it looks like it could work...
... but I doubt they'd do it.

I like the rumour of a vita version some time ago more, but I can see the advantage of the dual screens the 3ds offers, esp for typing.
But the vita's 3g would likely do it more credit then the 3DS wi-fi only for portability. (even though afaik the vita is still locked to only AT&T.... Stupid at&T...) But the 3DS popularity would dominate over the vita by far.... assuming the 3DS crowd was into FFXI at all.
But I'd totally buy this^^ Esp those cute Amiibo's, but we'd need some different ones then the FFXI statue collection from like... 2011 wasn't it? I have those guys on my shelf^^
But make some of the trust NPC's into amiibo's and it would be really awesome^^

Not every vita has 3G though i dont think? doesnt it cost a lot more for the one with 3G?
Also, a data plan + subscription fees...
If there was an amiibo for every trust, it would be as big as the smash bros series. :p

True, there's a wi-fi only, and a 3G+wi-fi model.
Anyone who wanted to play FFXI outside wi-fi ranges would want the 3G model, which is a boon.
Downsides are obviously the single screen, but yes, the data plan does cost extra, I think it's between 15-20$ a month for like... 4Gb's or something? Last time i looked anyway. I don't have mine active, so prices could have changed since then. And AT&T is not very.... reliable, so who knows how practical such an option would be and if it would favor the vita.
But yeah, amiibo's for FFXI would be outstanding, i'd definitely buy some of those ^.^
And if not the 3DS or Vita, perhaps the Wii U? Not as popular as the PS4 of course, but dual screens and the touchpad could benefit FFXI like it would on the 3DS. Only downside is, FFXI isn't multi-threaded, so the Wii U's extra cores would be useless, and their a lot slower then the PS4's and 360's, so that could be a hindrance, idk the 3DS core speed or the new versions, but it might be as well, or it might all do alright, after all, FFXI we designed for what, a 300mhz PS2 and a 800mhz PC or something? It could work.

How on earth would you communicate in a timely manner on this device? I love my 3DS but I think it would be pretty painful to play ffxi on it.

would have to add a VOIP service, otherwise you're limited to slowly chatting in noncombat situations and using pre-prepared messages for battle. Monster Hunter 4 has chat where none of the other portable versions did (outside of premade "shoutouts"); its slow of course but it's a "new thing" for the system. Outside of that, the New 3DS has the specs for FFXI to be functional but a port to that would be about as likely as to the psp or vita; i remember the vita rumors but those were shot down as I recall.
FFXIV supports remote play on the Vita- naturally chatting is hard with that, but you CAN play it (veeeery sketchy though if you aren't in local wifi range of your PS4)
As for Wii U, it could even run FFXIV just fine- at least better than the PS3 runs it (which is awful and was only made to fufill the original promise of a ps3 version), so there would really be no problem running XI- but with the exception of the online titles and FF13/13-2, no FF after 6 has appeared on a non-sony console. So I wouldn't hold out for it. I'm not sure if they have an actual deal with Sony or not but it seems as if. (edit: oops, I forgot 7 and 8 had PC versions, but technically that's not a console :p )
YES PLEASE!!
I would love this forever. ;A;
Or, if they could somehow implement a small handheld version of the game (Nintendo 3DS, or whatever other console), that isn't necessarily online, but could still sync up to your SE account and benefit you (like farming gil, or leveling up monstrosity, etc.), it would be so cool. <3
There are so many times I want to play this game when I'm away from my computer.

there are 2 thing that make this nearly or totally impossible
1. the ds3 has only one joystick thus camera movement is implausible
2. ware would you store all 12 GB of data + updates[most ds games are only 1-50 MB] needed for the game(or would you require every update that thay buy another card and switch between cards every time thay need to)

The new 3DS has a 2nd joystick, in Majora's Mask 3D it's used solely for camera movement.
As for storage, the new 3DS uses micro SDHC cards, while the new 3DS is packaged with a 4GB card, you can just buy a much larger one.

3ds has awful vertical screen resolution, even though it has 2 screens, the combined vertical resolution of both of them is still less than a PSVITA.
Its far more reasonable to do a port of the game to PSVITA for a ton of programmer reasons which I don't feel like writing walls of text about.
As someone who has had to work on games for multiple platforms at once (PC/Xbox360/PS3), its slows down development to support+update+TEST+QA extra platforms even on the most robust cross platform game engines in the industry.
FFXI still has to support Xbox and PS2 on top of PC, and as much I would like to see a port on a handheld machine, they would be better off spending dev resources on another expansion or more people to make meatier monthly version updates instead.

New 3DS has 2 analog controls. It supports up to 64GB SD cards.
PS2 on top of PCwell they can drop ps2. It's already all but dropped in the US with no expansion disc available, and I'm willing to bet if they do another expansion they'll take that oppertunity to drop it fully- I mean cmon, if the players in Japan don't have at least a ps3 by now i'd be shocked. Hell, there are tablets out there to run the game just fine (I don't know how big tablets are in Japan though.)
The 3DS screen may be low res, but hell, they made monster hunter work and look fine on it, and it even puts the chat on the main screen. Note this thread IS a pipe dream, but it's one I'd probably spend money on if it were a thing :p

I'd settle for a 3d port of a PS1 era Final Fantasy or a new Tactics Advance at this point :x

Seeing as how the version you play on the PS3 is the same as the PS2 (which also means you have to have an old PS3 Fat to even play it on that system), the Japanese players that are clinging to the PS2 version wouldn't really benefit from having a PS3 instead (unless you're referring to HDD space.) You'd think SE would have released a version to the PSN by now, but I imagine it would take quite a bit of work to make that happen. Still, it seems so weird that there's a direct version for the 360, but not the PS3.
considering SE seems to be refusing to put the old final fantasy games on the wii u and 3DS eshop... this seems completely unlikely. Though it would be cool.
PS: SE put your games on the eshop already!

This is a "build it and they will come thing." Something that's probably worth investing in some extra help to make happen- that is, releasing the game on ANY newer platform so that the ps2 can be dropped. There are so many ps2 specific issues like blackouts and stuff now that can't be fixed or caused them to implement silly workarounds. If they went and did this they could free themselves from the troubles caused by an inadequate platform- Even if it didn't mean a major game upgrade, it would mean they'd have more time to focus on the content.

Though it would be cool. This, they even made FF3 available on the OUYA android console. Why do Nintendo fans get stuck with only spinoffs? Even our tenouously FF-related Crystal Chronicles series ground to a halt, so outside of theatrythm FF we have like nothing =\ We don't even have the NES or SNES FF games on Virtual Console...
I don't understand why they aren't on the eshop already... even though I already own 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, & 6 on several consoles and in several versions I'd buy them again -.-
Well except on wii u where I would just pay the dollar to upgrade them so I could off TV play

The only reason I really want a Wii U is for Earthbound and Smash Bros... >_>; but I'd take a re-release for all these games. I own them all on the NES, SNES, GB, GBA, etc. I'd like to be able to turn on my system and just pick and play through any of them at will. What, what Mystic Quest ~! :D heh, it's funny cause it's not a real FF game... but that's the one we'd most likely get, if any.

Always good to see a fellow Earthbound/Mother fan :). That's actually one of the main reasons I wanted a Wii U myself -- that and for the HD version of Wind Waker.

Actually, I think mystic quest IS on Wii virtual console.

I really like this idea, and good job with the pictures too, looks like it'd actually work out fairly well.

It is on the wii version. I really don't understand why the entire wii virtual console library isn't available on wii u. It's maddening.
(Yes you can access through wii mode, but can't play just with the gamepad, and they don't even sell wii eshop cards anymore, and my virtual visa doesn't work with it, so I have to bug my gf to buy me points, which of course don't translate exactly into games, leaving me with extra points, and they are in American dollars only so super expensive... ughghghghgh...)

It's mostly because you can still access those titles on the Wii U by going to Wii Mode as you mentioned. There's probably legal hurdles and shit they have to go through even if its been released before, and also they have to do other legwork like the electronic manual that didn't really exist (much) on the Wii. I agree though, they need to at least carry them over to Wii U faster than they are. I'm fine with the $1 upgrade fee as long as they actually release the games....
