This is a great new feature :D I'd like to see it expanded upon with more commands that can be performed on player characters, especially to add people to your blacklist or friend list, or send a party invite, same as you can do in a certain other game with the same feature :p.

I find it clunky and awkward. I'd love an option to disable it, as using up arrow to actually move the log was convenient when something had just scrolled out. Unless you type 20 wpm or use a controller, the menu will be slower than just typing your tell.

Don't get me wrong, I love that they're trying to improve our UI, but, this feature I find rather meh.

It still does that. This affects nothing if you dont want to use it. You can also still scroll up/down a page at a tme with left and right, so it doesn't really impact your ability to scroll.

There always has to be someone who doesn't like a perfectly fine feature.

it would be especially useful if, as described, it could be used for the blaclist/friendlist.

Flaunting opinion as fact must be the new in thing. Previously, with the log open, hitting the up arrow would scroll your log up by one line at a time, or hold it for a few lines. Now, it navigates the selection for targeting someone. Whether you find it useful or not, it was changed, and providing a simple option of /logtarget on/off would be ideal for everyone.

FWIW, I don't really find that much use in it as it is. Can type out anything I'd like to do far faster, though I have used it to target someone out of a group a few times. Allowing you to target enemies would add a large degree of use to it IMO, nothing like seeing a mob casting in a group that you want to silence, then spending a number of seconds tabbing through til you find the right one. I'd imagine with a few tweaks to it and the ability to macro in simple message macros that add to an open chat, it'd be great for game pad users too.

Yet another copycat feature from FFXIV that is implemented to an existing interface that doesn't play nice with it. I appreciate them trying to make things better but maybe tailor these changes to FFXI and work to it's strengths rather than just straight copy and paste from XIV.

I've never needed or especially cared to scroll one line at a time. Paging up or down will still show the same information.

and work to it's strengths rather than just straight copy and paste from XIV.It's hardly a copy and paste, it doesn't even work the same way. two different games with two totally different codebases. to call it copy and paste is just ignorant.

It was a nifty idea but I don't think I'll ever use it.

They could make it so that the arrow is initially disabled, but when the chat log is maximized, pressing Confirm would bring up the arrow and it would behave as it currently does, and pressing Cancel would remove the arrow, so it would revert back to the way it was before they added this.

The time put into this they could have came out with a new race as well as other things, there was nothing wrong with the old way.

I don't think a small addition to the UI equates to a new race.
There will never be a new race in this game, the entire lore and story and even the design of some of the areas are all centered around the *five* races. So even if they did equate, it wouldn't be a thing because they're not going to do that.

The closest thing to a "new race" they could possibly do is add male mithra, which fits in the lore/world reasonably since they've always existed, they jsut live in seclusion and there's fewer of them. But whoa off topic... :p

That's actually a pretty reasonable suggestion. One more button press wouldn't be terrible. Thanks for the constructive response :)
