View Full Version : What are the tougher and unsoloable Assaults?

I got Captain rank a few years ago so I don't remember much about Assault.
I remember some were traumatically difficult. I remember Lebros Supplies is tough enough that we couldn't do it with only 3 people. I remember Azure Ailments driving me mad. But I don't remember most of them.
So obviously anything that is "go kill this monster" or "go kill a bunch of monsters", is pretty easy and any nincompoop can solo it. Non-combat oriented ones are trickier.
I am trying to build a Yagrush. I'd like to get the more difficult assaults out of the way first. Partially to get them out of the way but also because a buddy of mine working on the THF dagger is ahead of me on Assaults and will finish sooner, then start doing Nyzul. Tenative plan is to put Assaults on hold when he starts doing Nyzul.
So help refresh my memory. What are the harder and unsoloable Assaults? I still remember these few, which I have already completed.
Orichalcum Survey
Azure Ailments
Lebros Supplies
Evade and Escape (not difficult, but difficult to solo)
Then I remember that Building Bridges gave me a tough time, but I just tried it again and got 3 of the switches solo.
Any others that are tough or unsolable?

i have a tough time with Imperial Agent Rescue. I'm usually lucky to get more than one gate destroyed before timing out. Lost and Found is almost impossible solo.

Oh yeah I forgot to throw Imperial Agent Rescue in there. I already cleared that one thankfully. It took two tries solo. Each time I only got 1 gate destroyed. The 2nd time I just got lucky and it was behind the first gate. I got a Mercurial Pole out of goblin mystery box a few weeks ago and I'm finding it very useful for situations where I want to feed TP without killing. I use it on the Archaic Ramparts in Salvage every day.
Lost and Found I vaguely remember sucking when I did it in a trio a couple years ago. Methinks that's next on the docket.

Unless you're doing it solo, Lost and Found shouldn't be a problem, once you have the first clue you can use all the people doing the assault to find the ring fairly easily. The NPC is probably the most misleading part of the Assault as she will only ever point you to the closest non-ring ???, so you can be like 1 yalm away from the ring ??? showing up but she may say there is nothing to be found.

i disagree with some of that person's assessments.
Seagull Grounded: duo is not tricky, it is cake. One person holds the NPC, the other kills everything.
Preemptive Strike: solo is not tricky, it is cake. His justification for almost failing is nonsense as you can just run up to the upper level.
Escort Professor Chanoix: solo is only tricky if you are on a non-optimal job. If you are on brd, rdm, whm, sch (and probably more) then this assault is cake.
Building Bridges: is not difficult, but i would say it is tricky. If you have done this assault a few times then you know the patterns of the lamia.
Searat Salvation: is not difficult, but i would say it is tricky. If you have done this assault a few times then you know the patterns of the orobon.
Supples Recovery: is not difficult, but might be tricky, like orichalcum survey it is mostly about luck.
Apkallu Breeding: is not tricky, it is cake. I clear this in just a few minutes every time. It only takes one pair. I get the rain-cloud one. rain is at the middle blue oval.
Stop the Bloodshed: is not difficult, it is cake, though I can see an argument to call it tricky. Just be thorough in checking every nook and cranny.
Apkallu Seizure: is definitely NOT elite. This is cake. Follow the guide on ffxi wiki. easy solo in just a few minutes.
Azure Experiments: solo is only tricky if you are on a non-optimal job. Easy solo on RDM (probably others as well).
Operation: Black Pearl: solo is only difficult if you are on a non-optimal job. If you are on a mage job that does AoE magic this is cake.
Desperately Seeking Cephalopods: is definitely NOT difficult. This is cake. Follow the guide on ffxi wiki.

I think the only ones I wasn't able to solo within a 3 tries were lost and found and Orichalcum Survey. Lost and found I didn't even bother to try just dual boxed it. Survey I could've probably gotten eventually but it's pure random luck so best to brute force it with an extra person

I posted earlier, The assault to to feed the soldier was near impossible with 2 people and move enhancement from Garuda. The NPCs respond so slow, the 2nd player had to spam the button 3 or 4 times to get the Supplier to give them food if I had just taken some myself.

I'd like to see them lower the requirements for that one and model it more after Assaults like "Breaking Morale", "Apkallu Breeding", and "Searat Salvation". Make it so that, say, you only have to feed 2 or 3 guards, but get fewer Assault Points for doing so. Nobody really cares about Assault Points so this wouldn't bother anybody.

So, I'm on Lost and Found now, and I've failed twice more so because I can't finish any of the hints fast enough. That and she takes FOREVER to sense something. I feel that an abridged version of her Dialogue would be more than enough. I get it, she's a Median/Psychic, but I don't need a real life recreation.

Even with a party, this one is terribly luck based although it does make it easier to do with more people.
Just keep trying, or find some souls to do this one with.

I'd say with more than one person, only finding the first hint is the challenging part, if you're alone you really need 2 hints which can take a while.

Of the couple dozen times I have done Lost and Found (making multiple mythics and getting people Captain Rank) I have only once done this basically "solo". I had someone with me but I was in control of the NPC and within 2 minutes of starting the assault just happened to go to where the ring was and click on the ??? that appeared. Pure luck on that one. Usually it takes about 20 minutes for me to get the ring and that's with others doing the assault with me. But yea, normally you'd want 2 people minimum, 3 preferred for doing hopscotch once you get 1 hint.

I think I was only about 2 weeks in to the mythic process when I made the initial post here in early December. Now I have about 1500 Alexandrite and 33,000 tokens to go. I estimate about 10 days before I have Yagrush in hand.
