View Full Version : Timers - Bring the FFXIV Element to FFXI without 3rd Party Software

FFXIV did a very good job of adding in timers for each of the various buffs (or debuffs) that one may have inflicting them. I think it would be a great idea to add this element into FFXI. It would help with knowing the time remaining on each buff individually and could help all sorts of jobs with their various endeavors within Vana'diel.
The main reason I am providing the idea is that the use of some 3rd party software is illegal. If they added this, it could reduce the amount of individuals who use any type of 3rd party software.

When people have used them long enough (which is the case for a large portion of PC players, out of necessity) they would have to outdo them enough to make people change (official windower for instance was a pretty big fail and waste of dev time). Most won't stop using it just cause they added timers, you're fooling yourself if you think otherwise. Would be nice for console players or people unwilling to use programs but the demand for it isn't as high as if it didnt exist.

Yeah, the main people who would need or want it is the individuals who play on the Xbox 360 or PS2. Which, either way, provides some demand for it. I doubt it would be very hard to implement it into the game. I mean, the timers are there, they just aren't displayed. Maybe I can just dream. But doesn't anyone else agree?

I play on PC with the official SE windower on my laptop. I would like to see something like this add to the game. I hate it when ppl ask me how long I have until weakness wears and I can't tell them. Just because some pc players use 3rd party tools doesn't mean we all do.

It would be difficult to have readable timers on the buff icons. This would either require that the icon be partially covered up by the timer (e.g. what third party programs do) or the space taken up by the buff icon area would need to be increased to make room for the timers. This would not work very well with low resolution screens, such as that of the PS2.

All the more reason to do away with the PS2. I suppose the idea of having a 3rd party timer over the icons would be bearable. I just think it would be a spectacular improvement that could help many players with various fights that last a while. As I said, I can dream, at least.

They could always make it for PC and 360 users. Where does it say all updates have to be the same on all 3 systems?
Tired of hearing PS2 limitations make updates for PC and/or 360 and leave updates like this out of PS2 if it cant handle it!

Weakness is 5 mins long, surely you can count that.

So you are saying most people cheat?
I would like to have this since I am not a 3rd party user.

Actually he is saying that the majority of people could program a better GUI than SE can. (Though the majority would also not care about PS2 support)

Windower exists not to help people cheat but to address glaring problems with the user interface that SE in their view has failed to address (aside from the obvious part of making the game windowable). That doesn't necessarily make it right under the rules, but it wasn't created to help people cheat.

Great idea. Insert "PS2 Limitations".
