View Full Version : Automatic Disengage?

Whenever I'm fighting several mobs and one dies even if I'm facing in the direction they're in my character almost always automatically disengages and puts the weapon away. This is really annoying and has killed me a few times. Any idea how to fix or stop it from happening?

there are 2 auto-target settings
1. the auto-target in the config menu sets that you want to have it auto lock when you engage in battle
2. the command /autotarget [on/off] sets if you want to auto-target the next mob that your char is looking towards in 1st person view (not that you can see on screen in 3rd person view) if there on your hate list

Even with /autotarget on it doesn't work most of the time. Mobs have to be right in front of you. Earlier today it stopped disengaging enemies after death and I was thinking for a minute SE fixed it, but no, just got my hopes up.

Are you moving around a lot, such as strafing? If you watch other players move on your screen, there is no such movement as a strafe, it's simply a client side graphic that looks much better than the reality of it. If you strafe to the right of the mob as it's dying, you're facing to the right of the mob, away from anything that you may be trying to position yourself to hit. You need to be standing in place for ~1ish seconds in order to auto attack anything within your cone of vision.

While I've seen what player movement looks like from other characters, I always assumed it was a display glitch kinda thing. And that the positioning/facing on the character in question was correct.
And interesting example. If you go into first person view, then run backwards away from a mob, you'll look like you've turned away from the mob to others, but you still shield block hits from the pursuing mob. Something you can only do when facing the mob. You can also still block while backing up, locked on, in third person view(although, there is a chance of weird mob pathing causing the mob to flank you.)
I'm also moderately certain I've autotargeted mobs while strafing or backing up continuously. So I kinda have to wonder about this.
Maybe I'll do some testing... once, you know... I can actually log on without getting network errors and freakish lag.

Yeah, all you said is right. But for auto targeting specifically, I've found a number of times that if I'm moving right before/as the mob dies, I won't auto target anything at all within my cone. No hard tests to back it up, but that's been my experience. I put two and two together when seeing other characters strafe around a mob, but as you said, you can still auto attack, shield block, and WS, all things that you wouldn't be able to do if you didn't see it. Maybe it's more a bug specifically with auto targeting while moving, or maybe we're in a sort of rapid state of in view/can't see.

Hmmmm. Well, auto target was the case I was least certain of. I'll experiment a bit later, I suppose. It would be a pretty interesting exception.

If something is just barely out of the "cone of vision" as you say, even when stationary, it won't auto-target. I wish they'd just remove the automatic disengage feature so you could just manually switch targets. This was a sort of glitch I experienced the other day in Davoi and it worked really well. Then the client or server, whichever, caught up and ruined it. lol
