Error FFXI-3001

This error started for me today. Wondering if anyone else is having the same issue.

Everything is fine all the way through the character selection screen, then it gets stuck on the "downloading data" black loading screen. Then the wonderful error box appears.

I hope SE fixes this issue quickly. It takes a long time to get to the point of logging in, just to find it malfunctioning.

I've scoured the internet for similar issues, but I can say with certainty that it's not windows firewall (mine is turned off) and it's not issues with the router (I don't have one). Anyone else with the same issue?

I sometimes get error 3001, it's happened a couple times recently late at night, out of curiosity what is your ISP? I'm on Virgin Media, still not 100% convinced my problem at least is FFXI related as my entire connection just freaks out, for example I stop being able to load youtube as well.

I live abroad, so it's a foreign IP. But i use a VPN. It's the same VPN I've been using for six months with no problems. The rest of the internet is available, and so is PoL... just stuck at that loading screen after I choose which character to login as.

Out of curiosity, does this recurring problem just come and go with you? No fix, just wait it out?

Ah I apologise, I just remembered, the error I would get was error 3100, not 3001 and normally when it occurs I just give up and go to bed because everytime it has been late.

Short solution:

restore and exclude 'FFXI.dll" file from your AV quarantine list.
