While I believe [dev1002] is a good start, the whole transferring items to/from alts could use a complete overhaul. Here are some suggestions from someone who absolutely hates the time waste that is FFXI "delivery system". I think these are in approximate order of priority, and I believe approximate order by development work (easiest is likely near the top also)

Let us send to alts from our mog house; plain and simple there few reasons not to other than to waste our time doing something fundamentally unenjoyable to the game called "inventory management"
more than 8 delivery slots (send and receive); how many times can you log in and out for no good reason other than the arbitrary 8 slots, before you hate SE?
have a select list for our alts; I haven't done this often, but why type in the name of our alts ad nauseum, risking typos
let us not have to login/logout to do our inventory management (sending to alts/receiving from alts); plain and simple, it's more work for everyone, except the developer who would need to code the system

In summary, I assume alts are a valuable source or revenue for SE, but why are they so painful to use in this aspect? It certainly doesn't increase my enjoyment of the game. It's one of those, "why am I playing if I need to do something that wastes so much of my valuable game time".

I have been thinking the same think for years now, but I'm sure that there is reasons why SE didn't changed anything. Might be related to platform limitations (Read: PS2 - I hate you!!!).

And concerning the 8 delivery slots, it might be to prevent overloading the server...

Still, those are very good suggestions that I'd really like SE to consider, at least.
