I've tried out Abyssea a few times and it seems people are the following things in one of these parties.

Short Tempered
Childish
Quick to insult
Unfriendly
Scary

Now I kept my mouth(so to speak) shut so nothing would happen too myself while in these parties but, jeez this place really does bring out the worst in people. Or the worst people just flock to Abyssea, something like that.

I like abyssea as much as anyone else but I cant wait till some new areas come out with old school exp parties. I remember having to fight for camps in bibiki bay and that was only 230 exp tops, but getting 600 plus these people need taken out back and beaten with a belt.

Abyssea is not the cause of bad or mean players. People being jerks are the cause. It is not zone-specific.

Rule #1 - Don't join pickup groups.
Rule #2 - Don't join shout Linkshells.

Find an established Linkshell (ie: formed before Abyssea even existed) which runs with less than 12 people, and join them.

Congratulations, you now have a decent Abyssea experience!

You could have retitled this thread "Final Fantasy XI - A Ragefest Waiting to Happen".

None of those characteristics are new or interesting.

"I tried out [new thing] and I noticed a lot of players were acting [list of negative adjectives]. This is contrary to [old thing] because times were [positive adjectives]."

Rose tinted glasses, etc. How many of you were making the same complaint about not getting colibri parties on DRK or being forced to level a different job for pre-nerf CoPs?

In short, you're wrong and your opinions are wrong.

Correct Answer!

Also, bonus points to everyone who mentioned John Gabriel's Greater Internet Dickwad Theory (Normal Person + Anonymity + Audience = Total Dickwad). People behave much differently when they don't have to look each other in the face.

Since OP is on Asura, try to avoid alliances involving Mypimp and (especially) Magico. They're both terrible, mouthy players who make the leveling experience much more annoying than it needs to be. Furthermore, Abyssea Exp Allies are the new Campaign, so you'll see all types of unsavory people who used to stick to Campaign areas.

Most people met these types while camping HNMs. If you avoided that crowd, you may be surprised to see them now.

So much hate for asura... I think the real key here is to identify that your group is full of jerks before you leave town and leave. There are plenty of awesome people on asura and I've had many positive experiences on this server.... I've been on it since 05. Will agree about Magico though, had nothing but negative experiences w/ them.

Haha Jux, well pretty much we all know that Abyssea isn't flawless, and so long as it exists, much as Colibri parties, things will never be the same as they used to be. Thats not to say its bad, but of course with the increase of exp, so comes the increase of morons with a 1 inch rager for parties. Were talkin about that a$$ that joins a party and blames the party leader for no T.E after only spending 15 minutes in a party and leaves calling everyone idiots. Yup, pretty much like the Colibri burn parties but +1.

I completely agree with this sentiment. I love Asura, and I couldn't imagine transferring to another server (of my own free will, not forced transfer). There are tons of great people on Asura, and all forum drama and loud/stupid players have never overshadowed the good, in my opinion.

Joining an Abyssea alliance that's already in-action is like walking into a loud, lively party. You never know if you'll bump into friends, and you can just as easily be surprised by an alliance full on entirely incompetent people. Most allies are decent enough, though. I can only remember two alliances so bad that I just had to warp out.

Since we now exp in alliances of 18 instead of parties of 6, we're all significantly more likely to run into these lousy players (lousy in attitude, gear, their name is Magico, etc.). It's not like there's a sudden influx of these players; it's just that we now interact with them far more often than ever before.

On the plus side, lousy players have significantly less of an impact of exp rates. Even terrible Abyssea alliances can chug along at decent-ish exp rates. It's not nearly as bad as meriting with pickups at Nyzul birds, for example. I hated those parties. I always pulled on BRD, and if I had party leader, it was a terribly stressful experience to kick horribly gimp DDs only to replace them with another horribly gimp DD. If no one on my friends list wanted to merit, I could easily go through half a dozen DDs before I found a pickup who knew how to gear and how to merit. And I never looked only for the shiniest DDs with all HQ gear; I just wanted DDs who knew how to intelligently gear themselves with the gear they have available to them.

My God, those players were so hard to find...

At least now poor DDs can band together in an alliance, equip some atmas, and kill mobs at a somewhat decent rate. I don't miss the old days of exping/meriting at all. Those days sucked horribly unless you always exp'd/merited with friends.

Well not only Abyssea; FFXI is turning into WoW that's what will happen. Old players are semi-retiring, new players are l0l; they want things quick and nice and want to be god overnight. FFXI is making it too easy. Can't help it.

No lol

Old players were as bad if not far far worse than any manner of retard you see in Abyssea, did you ever spend any time at HNM camps? Guess not.

04-02-2011, 03:12 AM
Pffft, didn't even have to go to HNM camps, a pickup merit pt was all you needed. It's the reason I did all my merits for any job I leveled before Abyssea by soloing puddings on BLM. >_>

Welcome to the internet and online gaming, even the nicest person irl turns into a **** online since you can't punch them in the face online.

Quoted for truth, it's hardly just restricted to Abyssea. If I recall back in ToAU days some people would get butthurt when their party DIDN'T make their precious 25k an hour, would call the group a bunch of noobs and either drop the party or kick whom they thought was slowing the group down. In most cases unless I would just lol when they do that, because removing the 6th would require finding a replacement anyways so exp is further stifled, or dropping from the party and reflagging for potentially hours waiting for the next "ideal" setup to come along.

I had a visit on asura and i wish i have never gone there.

shouts where filled with (PST) in thier comment, to me thats a time zone

then I ment the people, I would get MPK attempts on Shikigami Weapon, mob steal attmpets on bune, EXP mob kill greifing weekly, shells that say drama to each other about thier BOT, going to other shells and stealign said bot. a RMT fool that keeps making new chrs and try to resell his madu account ( i think the savage ban hit is last leg)

yeah asura is a dog eat dog word.. /leaveserver -.-

Krystal seems fun to be with if you know what you are doing , wanan server change and try out for my ls? my ls is a real endgame past ls that took on abyssea and one of the oldest ls on bismarck ( it is like first or second, there is only one other real old LS that is still running)

Those types of players were always around..

It's just more common to bump into them now because people party in alliances.

If your party leader had a pair they'd tell the trouble makers to stfu and exp.. or give them the boot >_>

Just because you're online doesn't mean everyone's a bleep.
But, the reason I made the thread is because Abyssea is something on a whole other level that I haven't experienced through out the rest of the game.

By another level I mean, it's incomparable.

If I'm going to be playing BRD, you best be right your DDs are doing at least 25k/hr. I didn't care if people got upset if I left within a few minutes of joining, if you aren't pulling your own weight, you shouldn't be partying in the first place.

That's mostly because in abbysea you are having to deal with alliances, that means you deal with more people at once, thus greatly increasing the odd's of finding those kinds of people. Also, another factor might be is that they have more time to talk than pay attention to a fight like in the old school way... ahhh, them where to good'ol days. Tho that doesn't apply to DD's, most always had the time to yap. lol

Part of the issue here is that the game has restructured through changes made by Abyssea as well as player attrition. You have PUG's doing a lot of things that would primarily be done through LS's in the past. With an LS, there is the reality that you would be partying with these very same people on your next run, day after day. Being an ass, thus, had a real impact on you in game. With the majority of things being accomplished by PUG's, that deterrent against being an ass is gone.

THere are a few individuals who are indeed everything you mentioned above. But these people are just a small minority (who often has a tendency to stand out). And these people are that way... well... everywhere. You just learn to deal with them... Usually these people have do end up alienating everyone to the point where they give up and leave.

Truth be told though, you could end up going through 5-6 parties over the course of 3-4 hours just trying to find one that pulls their own weight. Then again just as there are DD's that can slow the group down there are BRD's just as bad, and I admit I've quit parties where a BRD would spend more time eating dirt or just cast Minute/March.
