A lot of people who don't already have alts are put off due the massive amount of nonsense you have to do in order to get it to cap asap.
Why not make it so that you can buy past roadblocks? New players will still do the things the normal way since they won't waste a lot of gil and they aren't in a massive rush and players making an alt will be encouraged to do so.
For instance 1 mill for all maps (outside of adoulin).
3-5 mill to skip all level caps to 99.
3-5 mill to unlock all jobs.
5-6 mill for certain mission cap unlocks.
FFXI is not going to get many new players honestly, the main growth area in a game like this is in the alt area. So really I don't see why you wouldn't encourage people to do so, make it less of a task to level to 99 for alt purposes.

SE destroyed almost ALL reasons to have mules:
1) Destroyed gardening
2) Destroyed fishing
3) Increased storage capacity
4) Made crafting irrelevant

Alts, as in alternate accounts. not mules.

How much to cap all skills to A+?
How much to cap all crafts to 110 x1, 70x7, 110 fishing?
If you're already halfway through, is there a discount?
Why do we want to encourage people to buy alts rather than encourage new players to come onto the battlefield?

Why do we want to encourage people to buy alts rather than encourage new players to come onto the battlefield?I don't think attracting new players and encouraging players to pay for alternate characters needs to be mutually exclusive. Aside from that I think the best thing SE could do to encourage players to pay for multiple accounts would be to allow multi-boxing using the windowed version of FFXI.

First, why would you want to encourage that?
Second, wasn't it just a few weeks ago that you were complaining that the Repeat Login Campaigns were greedy cash grabs to encourage people to buy extra characters?

Most people don't make an alt just to level up a new character, they do it to play 2 chars at the same time; which isn't going to happen reliably without cheats (ashita/windower dual boxing + other tools), so w/o encouraging "cheating" which you seemed to be against for the other thread, paying for an alt isn't going to be worth the monthly

Well I currently have 2 characters (PC and laptop), which means I pay two subs instead of one. I would make another today if not for the fact it's a horrible pain to unlock everything...again.
I'm sure many others think exactly the same way (it's always nice to have a whm alt). Like it or not alts are a growth area for a game with a dedicated playerbase that can't attract many new players.
Also I'm not against Square making money, just that welcome back campaign was a pretty sad way to do it since it was damn obviously aimed at people making mules just for KB pops.
