Everyone wants them, but no one wants to admit it. So here you go boys and girls; debate to your heart's content.

Joined servers are one of the best things about this game, if they segregated I would be gone in a heart beat.

my LS and I would move to a JP onry server, so we could have free reign over everything during NA prime time while all the JPs are sleeping.

As someone who doesn't even play anymore, i'd still have to cancel my account if SE ever did something so stupid.

Idk.. I've played MMO's with regional servers (they aren't called segregated because people are afraid of that word lol)

I'd have to say i prefer playing on a server where i know everybody speaks the same language as me.. I'm not xenophobic or anything.. it just can be frustrating trying to communicate with others who don't understand you.

A lot of the time people just aren't willing to put in the effort to communicate too.. most dont enjoy the novelty of struggling to communicate basic game concepts.. autotranslate leaves a lot to be desired.

For the most part jp's stick to jp's and NA / EU stick to themselves....

I mean i've been invited to a few jp parties.. just like a few jp's have joined my parties..

For the most part they prefer to stick to people they can understand... game is more enjoyable when you can have a conversation with the people you are playing with too ^^

I also saw a lot less korean / chinese / w/e other rmt there are on regional servers.... though that probably wouldn't help the japanese because they are in the same region as most of the rmt haha.

Also having servers in a region can help with regional ingame events... I'm sure most japanese don't care about halloween.. just like most NA / EU don't care about the cherry blossom festival... Regional servers can spend more time on more focused regional events.

Not to mention less latency / lag time when the server is actually in the region is a big bonus too.

However, actually setting up a regional server system at this stage in FFXI wouldn't be worthwhile imo.

Regional servers are something that should be done from the start of a game.. otherwise there will be people who are upset at being separated from people from another region.. because some people do try to communicate... although it is a small percent of the server from what i've seen.

The game has bigger issues than all regions being squished together imo.. and I would prefer they spend energy on those than a regional server gimmick that would add little value to the game....

For the most part JP's ignore NA and the other way around.... and i serously doubt they would spend money to put a server on a boat and send it to America or Europe just to fix the latency issue...

sounds like you just had some bad luck with JP players. Sorry to hear that. There are jerks on both sides of the the big pond--as well as the little one. Personally, I've had a lot of luck with the various cultures in the game. About 1/3 of my friends list aren't even in NA. Some I manage to muddle through with my limited rusty French and Spanish from what little I remember learning 20+ years ago in school, and some I can pretty much only talk with effectively through auto-translate--but we still manage to get together and do stuff like Aby wins, magian trials, and good old fashioned xp parties.

Yah.. there are more issues involved with regional servers other than just cultural differences...

I think the biggest being server latency....

Regional servers can be a good thing.... I just don't think it would do much good to implement it in ffxi...

It's more something you would set up when first releasing a MMO.

One of the things I like about this game is that I can play with ppl from all over the world. Regional servers....no thanks.

If it wasnt for the Japanese, I'd of never have gotten my maat cap, or be able to use a Kraken Club, so much trust even with a language barrier, and due to my extremely fortunate experience I would not support this.

The vast majority of JP players I've interacted with over the 7-8 years I've played have been super courteous, and as helpful as the language barrier allows. While there have been some dicks, I have for sure met waaaayyyy more english speaking people who were total wastes of oxygen. So as far as regional servers go I can see JP players having a more credible desire for them.

ehhh.. I really think lag is the biggest reason people like regional servers...

cultural differences being secondary...

I have met some good people in this game and some bad. Being ah, cough, an older player (age) the Japanese players show more respect as far as I am concerned. That has been my experience. Not all people can be taken at face value. I love meeting people and finding out where they are from.

The game doesn't really have the population at this point to really support a proposal like this. But aside from that, I enjoy the JPs on the servers. It helps a lot though if you can speak Japanese (and not Google Translate Japanese)

Pfft, conversations are overrated. I don't want to talk to any of you in game. Too much bitching in the game and too much bitching on the forums.

Finally, it's about time we discussed the problem at hand. Yes, I would like a server with no male Humes. Thank you for asking.

If you are going to make a suggestion, actually suggest something, no one wants such a horrible business practice.

I would like regional servers solely because of network latency issues. Sharing servers with people from all over the world never bothered me. I'm actually glad I can play with americans when I myself am located in europe. For me though, even american servers would lead to considerably less lag than with the current servers in japan, so I for all i care, EU/US could share servers :>.

I'm sorry, but was this topic purposefully supposed to be stupid? Why would SE segregate servers when we have seen a decline in membership? Why don't you go make a troll topic elsewhere @_@.

I like this members post so much I quoted it so I could like it a second time.

Because this is the most important topic ever to be conceived for this game. Things like changes to Dynamis, fixing broken jobs, finding efficient alternatives to PS2 limitations, and discussing the ins-and-outs of Abyssea? Nah man, nah; they're child's play compared to this line of discussion.

I think pretty much everybody agrees SE will never make regional servers....

I was just trying to have a discussion about why i thought they were a good idea for a new MMO

Some regional servers would be nice, less lag and so on but I do not think SE has the money to invest in such a thing.
