Except those that already paid for the service? How is that fair.

Should not everyone, including your customers get 2 free weeks if you are going to offer a service like this?

The way to look at these campaign from a marketing point of view is that all the company is trying to do is to get back some previous customers who might have otherwise left. They already have your (and my) money, they don't need to bait us anymore but they're looking for those that was a subscriber and who might at one point been addicted to the game to come back. You (and I) are not the target audience of this type of campaign.

Also, they already gave 'us' all those free stuff - the daily chest, the login campaign, etc, etc. At least those that actually wanted more logs/ores/junks who kept asking for free stuff. [personally I hadly ever do the daily chest, there are some items worth getting for the login].

I understand it's a marketing campaign, it's still pretty disrespectful to paying customers to give it away for free and give no loyalty bonus that offers something.

I came to FFXI from Tera and that publisher never misses a beat, if they give something to new players old players get something too.

this isn't the 1st time they offer the free to play for any cancel/expired subscription. so this really isn't anything new to most of us who's been playing. not really sure what's the down side it could have cause you that you feel you're entitled to some sort of compensation. ohh...they did say if you have an active account on record in July/Aug 2014 (sorry dont remember where that post is at now but I do remember seeing it somewhere), you get a Mog Pell (Red) delivered to your box and you can trade that in for a number of items. is that enough for you?

Everyone does not get two weeks free. Non-deleted characters all get reactivated (and assuming they weren't permabanned) can log in for ONE WEEK. Not just anyone can just log in.

Man this does remind me a little of the person who complained about the game being down for a week and a whole month free right after the earthquake in 2011. All because omg they couldn't play for a whole week and the only thing they were getting back was one month's payment not to be billed.

Isn't something like this (http://www.playonline.com/pcd/topics/ff11us/detail/13041/detail.html) exactly what you're asking for? You had to be subscribed for the last two months to get the Red Mog Pell. Whether any of those things are useful to you are another matter, though a stack of Leafdim or Leafslit +1s is decent money at the moment, and anyone interested in Job Points will love the Vocation Ring.

I bought the ultimate edition before seekers, WotG, mini-expansions came out. IT IS OUTRAGEOUS THAT I HAD TO SPEND 40 BUCKS FOR EACH EXPANSION/MINI SET WHEN OTHER PEOPLE COULD GET EVERYTHING I GOT ROLLED INTO THE NEW ULTIMATE EDITION. I'm a paying customer, so I should have gotten the expansions for free. This is a slap in the face to all people who play the game regularly when you let all the new people buy everything for 40 bucks, AND give them a free month on top of that... (not really, but it's the same idea, n'est pas?)

I really don't know how to respond to this level of spoiled entitlement. Nobody forced you to pay the full introductory price for any of these expansions.

Sorry... I guess I should have made it more clear that I was going on a sarcastic rant... I'll edit it to make it more clear for you.

I agree with the thread creator, we should get something for paying, like they do in ffxiv, they get exclusive items for just paying for subscription.

I'm happy paying the subs, don't want any free game time. Also I'm paying subs for Vanadiel, the whole of it, with updates and now frequent bonus events. So I'm happy with what SE delivers in exchange for my monthly subs. In terms of being "longtime player" and how this should confer rewards, the rewards are that you have been playing the best videogame in history, for a long time, lol.

You are forgetting that we are getting new players that will keep these servers running for more years. Imho this is awesome since i don't want this game to shutdown in less than 10 years.

Isn't the repeat log in campaign a loyalty bonus that offers something?

Here's the way I look at it. If this campaign even causes 10 people per server to come back and start playing again, I will be happy because it extends the life of the game I enjoy playing.

It's like they say on Extra Credits: Reactivating characters and letting people play for free is providing content for your paying customers by giving them people to play with. Why not do something like this semi-regularly?

I think the introductory offer is fine - hopefully it'll entice people into FFXI :-)

We see this all the time; my satellite provider offers 6 months discount to new customers - not to existing; my mobile provider offers free 'phones to new customers - not to existing; my broadband provider offers 6 free months to new customers - not to existing....just the way of the world I suppose ;-)

I think I got the short end of the stick here: I just rejoined XI at the beginning of the month (9/1), so I'm not eligible for it (it started the 10th). >w>()
Oh well, at least I already the Seekers edition on Steam... :B

I am going to be honest here. I quit for about a year at some point in 2012-2013 due to drama in game and couldn't handle it between my senior year of college and work. I honestly had no intentions of coming back. I saw all this new content that I had mixed feelings about and was not prepared pay again to try it out. When I heard about the free log in period for 2 weeks, I decided to suck it up and try it out and I have been back ever since. Surly I am not the only one that came back during that period?

I'm a returning player who's having a hard time getting back into the swing of things after playing that abhorring mess called FFXIV (it's actually kind of fun, but after playing it for 11 months, I've gotten so used to its controls this game is almost impossible for me to play lol). I haven't played since early 2013, and even then, I wasn't into the game very much by that point.

How does this campaign thing work?

Ooh, I see.

So once you log in, that starts the one week timer? Or is it a set length of time (like say 9/8/14-9/15/14?)

You mean like the exclusive login campaign items/limited time items that are only available to people who play the game regularly?

But you can use the time cards to speed up XIV's reward system with little amount of actual play time.

Soooooooooooooo.... the point of speeding things up is to get rewards faster so you don't need to play as much? To me, it seems that would be like giving SE 20 bucks every month to get the fancy reward of the week, and only wanting (being able to play) for 30 minutes each week.

Never said it made any sense yet I know there are people who have the next to latest reward stuff on as glamours or riding around on the newest mount a long while before anyone else has them.

The difference between the rewards systems used in XI & XIV:

XI: you physically log in to accumulate points day by day, slowly accruing the amount needed for a reward of your choice.

XIV: you subscribe for a time period (up to 180 days at a time) and you get rewards based on the total amount of days you have subscribed for.

So if you subscribe for 180 days you'll get rewards instantly in your d-box for up to Rank 4 Veteran rewards. Once you pay for another 180 days you'll get up to Rank 6 rewards. I prefer XI's method more, but I can see why XIV's model works.

Should not everyone, including your customers get 2 free weeks if you are going to offer a service like this?As a paying customer, the Return Home campaign was a treat. It was nice to be able to play with some old friends again. I only wish that it was actually two weeks long instead of just one. It's hard to get a group of people together long enough to get anything accomplished.

I understand it's a marketing campaign, it's still pretty disrespectful to paying customers to give it away for free and give no loyalty bonus that offers something. You get tons of loyalty bonuses just for playing e.g. the login campaigns that other people miss. Why would you surrender hundreds of thosuands of dollars topeople who are already paying and playing and would keep doing so anyway? the goal of the program is to invite former players back. I don't know of any game that offered free game time (subscription) or free cash stuff (f2p) to current players in a campaign designed to win back former customers.
