I've been an avid Adv. Fellow user since they were first implemented and have one for all my characters and enjoy taking the time to level them up along with my job classes as well as an extra body that I can adjust to my needs when using a full group of trusts.
While I do enjoy this, I would like to see some increased improvements to Adv. Fellows to allow them to be more survivable in certain situations. The biggest issue I have always had is being unable to have my fellow buffed with Protectra/Shellra/DNC Sambas and other specific skills. The only way I can get Protect/Shell on my Adv. Fellow is to have myself as WHM or RDM and their survivability gets hurt badly when my "Fierce Attacker"/ "Stout Shield" gets hit with an AoE attack from a higher level monster and takes more dmg that absolutely necessary because they don't have the buffs.
So here is a following list of suggestions I'd like to make to improve on Adv. Fellows effectiveness.
01-Allow Fields of Valor/Grounds of Valor Field Assistance menu Protect/Shell/Haste/Regen/Refresh/Food effects to be toggled to include Adv. Fellow (when presently summoned) to receive the same buffs the player receives when chosen, or have it as a separate section of Field Support (Av.F)
02-Add a new Tactic's Manual ("Battle Mage/Assault Caster" or something) for Adv. Fellows that gives them a RDM/WHM job class programmed to focus on giving themselves "Composure" -> Protect/Shell/Phalanx~Stoneskin and maybe Regen/Refresh themselves as needed at the proper level. Include EN-spells (according to game day element and level availability?). They should also be allowed to use Dispel, Frazzle etc , and ONLY cast offensive magic attack spells to synchronize with a skill chain Magic Burst.
03-Include more special event or specialized costume sets for Adv. Fellows available for purchase with Fellow Points.
04-Make sure the effects the Trust's can receive from things like Dancer Samba's also affects the Adv. Fellow. Also the option to use temp items from treasure caskets on fellows as well would be nice.
05- Allow Fellows to get the same Exp received on completion of Fields of Valor/Grounds of Valor that the player receives as well as Ground's tome Prowesses.
That is the end of my reasonable suggestions for Adv. Fellow improvements. Now is my list of wild fantasy suggestions for Adv. Fellows.
06-An Adv. Fellow scenario set creating a back story based on the fellow's sex/race and discovering more about their personalities.
07-The Adv. Fellow sometimes appearing in the players main Mog House and interacting with various furnishings (with high enough bond of course) and more extensive conversations based on fellow quests (and if a scenario is implemented the progression of that.)
08- Romance/Familial bond/Devout comradery bonding potential that adds a nice boost to the Adv. Fellows stats (Also ties in with an Adv. Fellow Scenario theme) that is based on the fellows sex/species and the players sex/species.
I.E. A player with an Elvaan(M) and an adv. fellow that is Elvaan(F) should be able to either pursue a romantic scenario path (maybe even unlocking a special armor set for the Adv. Fellow) or a familial bond path where the player discovers the adv. Fellow is a long lost sister (also unlocking another special armor set for the fellow). Or lets say a Tataru(F) with an adv. fellow that is Galka can pursue either the Romance path or the Devout Comradery (since they're different species).
Thank you for reading and I hope that this will all be taken into consideration in improving the already great FFXI.
