Abyssea End game shells and my thoughts and oppions about them

Okay..so to start off...i figured "why the hell not? try out some of the abyssea stuff...maybe i had the wrong idea?" boy....was i *** wrong....

i decided to join an abyssea end game LS...it seemed nice at first....UNTIL it got to the point of getting some of the rare drops...players in this LS were and i *** you not"at each other's throats with their lotting" if one got a higher lot the other would all yell at them for it and act like a little immature brats who just saw the other kid grab the last cookie off the tray and started to bawl and whine.

this...i could deal with...to a point...as i had no interest in lotting any of the items because i didn't need them. then came the *** .....i have been leveling my war for some time now and aim to take it to 90 soon so when i saw this one rare axe drop i lotted on it...i got the highest lot..woot right?........right? WRONG! no sooner i got the highest lot THE ENTIRE LS(minus the leader who i know and a 2 others) WERE SCREAMING TO HAVE ME BOOTED FROM THE LS. yelling and complaining and throwing every single insult they could muster at me. they even went as petty as to attack my puppet master's hand-to-hand skill which was under-skilled at that time. but the LS leader thankfully said"freelot is freelot" now here's the straw that broke the Camel's back for me...today...i'm in abyssea attow chasim..or however you spell it. we were killing the moth MB for the zone and a epic pair of hand-to-hand weapons drop. and i ask as nicely as i could ever ask"May i please have those? i need them. my weapon sucks!" well apprently these people in end game LS shells don't comprehend the idea of "being nice" is a "good thing" THE ENTIRE LS(minus the same few mentioned earlier)LOTTED ON IT leaving me without a single chance. i ask again before it finally drops"come guys...i need this weapon...mine sucks! please can i have it?" and you know what they said?"freelot is freelot!" i'm sitting here thinking...."no way in *** ....they blow a gasket on me the other day for lotting an axe...but change their tune when it comes to something they will never use and i need?" well the LS leader planned on killing it a few more times..so i figured"okay..no need to get pissy...it'll drop again...i'm sure of it..." well it dropped again alright and once again THE ENTIRE LS LOTTED ON IT and fed me the same line. finally it clicked with me...they were holding a *** grudge against me for that axe the other day. when it finally clicked i was like"no way in *** ?! they can't be serious?!" apparently anyone who won the lot tossed the weapon so they could lot on it again to make sure i couldn't get it. apparently the ENTIRE LS was in on this with the except of the few i mentioned earlier. after three more times of it dropping and the LS poking jokes at me for not winning the lot and other BS i finally said"*** it!" dropped the party,tossed the pearl, and used a scroll to warp out. if this is how end game LS run in FFXI....I WANT NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!

it was a rare axe that dropped from an undead NM in abyssea,can't recall the latent effect it had and the"epic hand-to-hand" as i called was one that has a nice little latent effect on it called "final Heaven"

In reality, they probably only have 1-2 good members in the leadership, followed by 15-20+ absolute garbage bodies to throw at things.

If you're going to join up with trash, don't complain about the smell. It's par for the course for them.

I suspect we're not being told the whole story here. What exactly was the freelot axe you took? How many career WARs did you outlot? I doubt anyone in that shell wanted those h2h but they definitely wanted revenge. Greed lots from new members usually aren't received well and tend to result in that kind of behavior.

OK, unsuprisingly, I came into this thread to see someone complaining about not getting stuff, or only the leaders getting stuff. Well I can assure you, most LS are not like that.

First, virtually all groups have some kind of probationary period to ensure that they find people who are reliable and aren't going to just bolt the instant they get something they want. But once that's out of the way, most groups are very fair about who gets what, usually using a simple @ system. I was only in my LS for a week or two and got a drop off our first Rani kill. Everyone who has a job to use something and put in the effort to help has a chance at the goods.

The majority of linkshells are run by reasonable people. So please, don't join an LS for a week or so, not get XYZ item, and say all engame linkshells are bad and have greedy leaders who get all the stuff while the rest don't get anything. It's a horribly inaccurate stereotype.

The saying about getting what you pay for is applicable here. If you just hook onto the first LS you see and they take you without asking questions, then you shouldn't be expecting much. I've yet to meet a half competent shell that calls itself an Abyssea ls. There are Endgame shells that do Abyssea, but those aren't the same thing. FFXI Endgame has been out for a long time. Most all of the smart, competent people have a place in some pre-established shell by now. The only people really left without shells and forming new ones are people who were too suck to make it in a real shell beforehand.

The exceptions to this are generally people who do things with people they already know anyways. Rather, I should say, there isn't anyone with half a brain still recruiting random people any more. In context, the generalization is valid.

Lol, if this is directed at me, you're a bit off the mark. I'm not mad for personal reasons. I've had the same ls for years, one of the more successful NA shells on my server at that. If there's anger in my post it's mainly because I associate "Abyssea ls" with a lot of posters on here.

Endgame is what you do at cap, it may not be what you consider endgame but that's what it is all the same.

Given the best way to keep MMO players happy is to target the casual audiences I would'nt be suprised if we get a lot more Abyssea and a lot less of what people used to consider endgame events.

Abyssea is midgame content. 90 is not the current terminal cap, 99 is. Our definition of Endgame shell and Abyssea shell thus differ. As far as my definition goes, an Endgame shell is one of the half dozen+ competent Endgame shells that existed before the advent of Abyssea and simply do Abyssea content now. An Abyssea shell is then a linkshell formed after the advent of Abyssea with the sole purpose of farming Abyssea.

The biggest difference between the two is the fact that pretty much any player on my server with an IQ greater than potato already had an Endgame shell before Abyssea came out. This leaves the people creating and joining these new shells as pretty much the server's resident rejects. Of course the shells are going to be crap.

I've actually started a trial to get to my emperian hand weapon...but the snag i'm at is that blasted tumbling truffle just don't want to pop...i hate lottery spawns...-_-;

edit: it's the first of the many trials i have to do to work up to the emperian hands.

from what i've learned it was a junk Axe drop anyways. so it wasn't that valuable anyways. i'm still gonna use it when i lvl my war though.

This isn't exclusive to Abyssea - this is what happens when you play with a bunch of immature children. I don't see how this is even related to Abyssea.

Lotting stuff you have no use for (or can't equip immediately) is generally frowned upon unless absolutely no-one else needs it.

My advice would be to find a competent Linkshell, one with set and transparent distribution rules, then give Abyssea another whirl. You'll be missing out if you don't. (protip: Find a Linkshell with less than 10 people in it for best results.)

Repeating what others have pointed out already: If you have a few Dominion Notes, try going to Abyssea - Uleguerand and trade notes for augmented Savate Fists from the Dominion Tactician there.

I've never heard of an "Abyssea End Game Linkshell" before. This must be an entirely new beast. Everything I've done in Abyssea, which all the tiers of NMs for most of the NMs has been done with 3-12 people I just gathered up and did stuff with.

I like my Abyssea LS. They are awesome. Not sure why they let me in but probably because my son-in-law is one of the sackholders lol. It is a nice sized LS. They used to be an regular End Game LS but with all the new gear they apparently decided to do Abyssea for a change. They are rated as one of the best, 3rd in our server, with stiff competition.
We have gotten quite a few of the Emperean Weapons and most everyone is doing pretty good on getting the gear as well.
It is a mistake to generalize any group to bad or good. I do think this one is exceptional in many ways and could set a standard for other LSs to follow.
Good luck on finding a decent one and it will be a fun and profitable time.

Most abyssea LS are held by retarded loot whore leader; never interested joining those. They just want to get you triggered for their emp weapon/armor.

I mean 90% of time they are random /sh people from Port Jeuno; even average member lot crap they can't even use and the leader won't care.

How do you know you got a shitty loot whore LS? When you go aby event, half of the party/alliance members are afk almost entirely except lotting. And the leader will take all your money and weapon items or selling ra/ex drop to other people.

Funny thing is I'd probably pearl Krystal at least to my Abyssea SP's private linkshell, if not my main Endgame shell if he was on my server. Not entirely as a joke either, because it's a lot easier to show someone the difference between real Endgame and poser Endgame than it is to tell them.

Some of the better players I know now were equally confused years ago around ToAU release. Get someone with even an ounce of potential in a solid, intelligent environment and they can improve by leaps and bounds. The only setback is that the solid, intelligent communities in this game are few, far between, and all very cautious with adding new members (for obvious reasons). Added to that, it's hard for a low-tier player to tell the difference between a good shell and a crap shell with the same "Endgame" label on it like the one from the OP. It's easy as hell to call anything an "Endgame" shell. That doesn't make it one. Those of us in the Endgame scene can tell the difference a mile away, but it doesn't do us much good unless we're searching for a shell anyways.

It's hard to find well established shells that are still open for members... I think steelsyndicate is one of the only shells that still takes new people that I would go with (mostly because of some of their old members who made a good impression).
As far as the top ten shells on asura go: machina is closed, moovinbrix is a leader take all shell, no clue about wegotswagg anymore, i heard vosdementis is pretty dead, chroma is eu only, losnoobs looks decent, kupols has more than their fair share of drama llamas, madgood is only fun if you're in the in clique, and i don't think i've seen any circleofknights or hildegarde members in a long time. I suspect there are a few small shells around that are quite fun to be in though... it will just take some searching.

I agree I would love to see her in a better environment too. I would invite her to try out for my LS if she was on my server, and share my knowagle of the game with her and such.

Most all Shells on Asura are Drama-ridden or terrible players who dumb-luck into good gear but wouldn't know how to use it if it was spelled out to them on their out-dated ideas of using PLDs meleeing in HP Gear with Ochain, or their Bromunes.

But LosNoobs is actually a good shell. They have their fair share of flat out retarded people, But most of them know what they're doing. I left for my own reason i won't go into, But they are a good shell if you can get past some of the bad seeds.

One problem that sticks out is, when i was still with them, They had nearly 30+ Active members, and Abyssea is an 18-man Zone and we'd only do zone. So if you didn't "/" in time you were left out of Event until someone left. You'd still get partial points for being a "Bench" Member so its not a big deal, And in a lot of cases you were still allowed to zone in and lot something if it was on your wishlist. you'd just not get to be in for a bit :P. It was a big shell, but its good.

Added to that, it's hard for a low-tier player to tell the difference between a good shell and a crap shell with the same "Endgame" label on it like the one from the OP. It's easy as hell to call anything an "Endgame" shell. That doesn't make it one. Those of us in the Endgame scene can tell the difference a mile away, but it doesn't do us much good unless we're searching for a shell anyways.

if things continue to progress on this server the way they are...as soon as the server merge is complete i would love to try out your shell. would be nice to play with some competent players....>.>; though i really wish you would stop calling me a "he" but meh..i suppose i'll just overlook that..^^

I can duo with my GF (THF + WHM or MNK + WHM), But i still have 2-3 other friends who actively participate. Mostly because we're all good RL Friends, but also because of things like Yellow Triggers for Seals/+2 Items etc. one is a BLM, the other is (albeit a bit more useless) a DRK/RDM/RNG (lawl).

I see no point to 18+ Man groups because its just unneeded competition, But some of them are smart about it (Split up to divide/conquer multiple NMs), so in a way it balances out.

I prefer low-man though :| 5 members max is my favorite.

Pretty much this. My "static" is just 4 people who have all been friends for years. We have a decent enough job mix to do pretty much anything, and leveling a new job if we need one these days is cake. Heck, two of them leveled WHM specifically for Abyssea junk. (Edit: oops, forgot the third did too, so we all have WHM <_<)

You can duo anything in Abyssea to get the kill, you just find yourself in a position where it's harder to get procs depending on what you're after. Nin+Whm and War+Whm can handle most reds, Mnk+Whm can handle every blue, but in any Melee+Whm case you're missing a lot of potential grellows if you're after +1/+2 items. Thf+Whm can get Empyrean item drops, but it sorely lacks Reds for building the popsets (assuming you aren't just changing jobs and burning stones, etc). Adding a third member to round out whatever procs you need can help a lot.

I'm in an end game shell but sadly my work hours prevent me from doing a lot of things with them. However I've joined up with 4 other people and we literally low-man the shit out of everything in Abyessa we can. We're a NIN, BLU, WHM, BLM, & DRK mini-static that kills stuff on the weekends mainly.

I've completed already several HQ2 sets with ease and already have several popsets for various Card and Stone NMs we kill on the weekends. It's worked out great for me and we don't fight over drop seeing as we all have an unspoken rule about job priority on who usually gets what. Most of the time we have a lot-war on stones/cards but I take it in stride seeing as we'll keep coming back again and again killing mobs until we're fully done with it.

Case in point being Sobek, We finished Katana and Sword Emperyen Weapons off that mob with just us 5. I have I think 6 or 7 HQ2 Legs for my own character simply because stones were hitting the floor.

Find yourself a group like that and I promise you the shit won't matter. P.S. Be patient about getting your drops if you do end up with a group like that and seriously do not bitch about being asked to come on X-job if it helps your static win.

Too many groups I know fall apart because people want to have "fun" with their favorite job and not be on a job which can make most fights painless.

They were most likely pissed off that they had their gear outlotted by someone who wasn't already a level 90 warrior and decided to take out their revenge.

I'd suggest finding another LS. Members should be considerate of one another and be helpful, not greedy little monsters.
