SE can you please explain this?
Do you have a plan or timeline for when this can be addressed?
Edit: I am asking this question because I enjoy playing SKCNM20 and am only restricuted to a PT of 5. (2 PC + 3 Trust). :(

My recommendation would be to shout for a third random player, might get another orb that way too and more seals for you, just let them know before hand what Difficulty and you're using trusts (and possibly that you've won before with 2 and are just bringing a third to fill a spot). Trusts have made a lot of things easier to do, and fill the spot of people when you can't otherwise find any... but they're no substitute for interaction with other humans, try to do that.
But, as an answer to your question, literally less than 24 hours ago they responded to a thread just like this saying "Trusts are doing what we wanted them to do, we have no plans to expand how many you can call at a single time" more or less. Meaning, no, this isn't in the current plans.
Here ya go:

It should be noted they mention solo players, but I imagine their tone won't change much because theres 1 more person involved.

That's not what the OP is asking for, tat thread is asking to call more than 3 NPCs per character, this thread isn't.
Also, your snarky comment "but they're no substitute for interaction with other humans, try to do that. " is out of place as the OP already said TWO PLAYERS!
@OP: currently it's bugged, SE have made it so only a party leader can call Trust NPCs, the game is supposed to allow it and apparently did so until the June update.
Alter egos have undergone the following adjustments.
Players are now able to call forth alter egos while in a party containing other players.

Notes
Alliances may not be formed when in a party comprised of bother players and alter egos, parties may not contain multiple alter egos of the same NPC, and only the party leader is able to summon forth alter egos.
The last restriction is in place for the June 2014 version update in order to prevent a particular bug from occurring.
That restriction doesn't just apply to alliances so it hits single parties. SE failed to fix it in July and apparently they won't be fixing it in August either.

It wasn't snarky, it was serious. In fact my entire post was serious and wasn't meant to offend the OP in any way.
Second, yes, if you read then you saw the part where i said "It should be noted they mention solo players, but I imagine their tone won't change much because there's 1 more person involved".
we do not have any plans to increase the cap on the amount of alter egos that can be summoned at the moment.
What you quoted seems like they want to allow any player to summon a trust while in a party, but this quote seems to imply they don't want more than 3 in a party, at least for solo. Maybe it'll change for duo, but I suspect they're pretty happy with trusts current role they play in helping players.
Currently, the development team feels that three alter egos are fulfilling their purpose for aiding solo players
oh.
Still, specifies solo. Maybe when they release Alliance trusts they'll let us fill the parties up, but I suspect the 3 trust limit for current players might be there for a reason.

SE,
There's a lot of speculation here. Can you please clarify on this issue and if the 'bug' that is currently being suppressed has a near-term fix?
Thank you!
