View Full Version : Make key items and regular items sortable in alphabetic order!

This is becoming a major problem. I have 480 item slots; 80 gobbiebag, 80 Mog Safe, 80 Mog Locker, 80 Mog Satchel, 80 Mog Sack, and 80 Storage. While it's great to have all this room, it's getting to be a nightmare trying to remember where I put everything. It appears there is only one sort function, which seems sorta random. Please please PLEASE make an option to sort by alphabetical order.

Additionally, I sometimes have trouble finding a key item. Can we add a 5th option in key items that gives you a master list of everything, in alphabetical order?

Lastly, can we remove that restriction that says Storage cannot be accessed from within a Rent-a-Room?

Agreed. Its so annoying that half of the Atmas is in one place of the list and the rest is in another place>_> Please make a better sort function :D

I agree. Alphabetical sorting would be a nice option.

There are already 2 sort functions for your inventory "Automatic", i believe this is the random one you referred to, there is a very strict pattern for it, consumables then gear which sorts out much like the AH does RA weapons, ammo, reg weapons, head gear etc etc. and then "Manual" which lets you put anything anywhere in any order, It's time consuming to put everything into a spot manually every time you change gear, but i don't think putting anything alphabetically would really help all that much. I rather dislike the idea of having my Ziska's crossbow at the bottom of the list because it starts with Z rather then at the top because it's a RA weapon. I think you have not really paid much attention to where the "Automatic" sort actually PUTS your gear, and in what order. For spells and such i HATE the way the Automatic sort puts them, there again though an aphabetic sort would not be terribly useful, there are too many bar- spells that would be incredibly close together and at the very top of the list for any job that has them. I "Manually" sorted my spells by element and most used for example, Cure 1-6 at the top, then curaga 1-4 regen 1-4 refresh raise 1-3 pro 1-5 protectra 1-5 shell 1-5 shellra 1-5 etc. You can do this same thing with your gear by the way. These lists do not resort unless you tell them to. My blu spell list is even more complex, but that would be a long post so. In short i think the current method for sorting your inventory is fine, if you want to sort all your stuff your way, alphebetically or what ever use the "Manual" sort function the game already has.

In regards to the KI functions, i have played when there was NO distinction between any of the KI's. There was a master list that said "Key Items" THIS WAS HORRIBLE. It had a list, not in alphabetical order but by the a similar method where maps where at the bottom and i have no idea how the rest of the list was sorted, it all seemed very very random. I think SE made HUGE strides by making the differentiated lists we have today. However, we DO need more categories introduced, such as Abyssites, Atma's, Current Quest KI's, Battlefield KI's, Forced spawn KI's/Trophy KI's or something of that nature there are too many items under "Temporary Key Items" it takes eons to sort through.

As for storage not being accessed from a rent-a-room.... i would hate to see this for the simple fact that it would cut out every reason for ever having to return to one's home nation, unless you wanted to Outpost or something like that, i think the reason they did this is the realworld mechanic, you do not have all the 'furnishings' you do at your home mog house in your rent a room, so there fore you only get access to what is stored in your 'luggage' none storage inventory. Your rent a room is like being on vacation and you can't take everrrrything with you so storage is what you have to leave behind like your 50" plasma tv in real life or whatever you have lol. That's my take on things anyway.

Even if there was an "Abyssea" category in key items to hold Abyssite, Atma, NM pops, and quest key items it would make searching through them much, much easier.

I want a different auto sort option, one that ONLY auto stacks items i HATE the auto sort.

the auto sort is the main reason it takesa me a lot longer to job change

However, a separate category for Atmas and/or all Abyssea key items would be welcome.

I see the point why you wouldn't want to make Storage accessible everywhere.

As for objections to an alphebetical sort, I should stress that I propose this be strictly OPTIONAL. Leave Auto and Manual in there, and add in the third option for alphabetical.

turn of the auto sort inventory in the options and arrange it how you like, simple enough.

Sorting it alphabetically wouldn't help all that much.

That would be immensely time consuming, both in the initial sort and remembering to refile everything correctly every single time something enters or exits a storage space.

I'm surprised that something this non-controversial could raise any objections.

I full agree with including it and leaving it optional idea

i really only see that being useful for those times of "oh crap where the hell is my (insert item you cant find here) even then i try not to sort my mog safe/locker to much as all the gear i use regualy is kept at the bottom and grouped togeather with the rest of the gear for X job bar those few pieces that are used in multiple jobs 95% of my blm gear is used exculsively on blm to find it all aphabeticly would be more of a pain

While an alphabetical sorting feature would indeed be quite useful, the development team has looked into it and has found that it would be quite difficult to implement. Due to the fact that the game supports multiple languages, items are organized by internal item IDs and not by the name of the item itself. Since the current sorting system is based on this deep rooted system of internal IDs, changing this is not very realistic at this time.

Alphabetical isn't possible, but what about manual sorting. I'm saying this mainly in regard to Atma. Would it be possible to be able to sort manually (like magic spells), and having the order of the atma in the key items be reflected in the menu at the atma infusionist?

Thats a good question Miico^-^ Would be nice to be able to sort it in some way. I could settle for manual sorting if it wasnt possible to make it automatic^_-

Unfortunately, given what Camate has said, the same fundamental problem would assail them in this case as well. Although, one possibility that comes to mind right off would be a lookup table that serves as an intermediary ID on the client side. Such a solution is problematic for FFXI however, since they have to consider the memory usage for PS2 users and at best, the lookup table would have a size complexity on the order of n where n is the number of inventory item types. Alternatively, they could store an individual lookup table for each person on the server similar to the macro saving mechanic; depending on how Key Items and Inventory are sent to sent to the player, however, such a system would horribly bog down the inventory checking process.

when they will release the atma fix, you could create a list of preferite atma to use...this will solve most of the problem i suppose ^^

What about just adding submenus for atmas and abyssites? It may not solve the problem, but at least it would ease the congestion without worrying about cross-language mess ups. I know that moving those 2 items out of the temp-key items submenu would help a lot.

We can sort the auction house alphabetically though. I'm sure not all those spells are the same in every language. So either key items only are sorted by ID# or I can't really understand a reason this can't be done.

What i got from that explaination was in English "Atma of whatever" is 1987383958. The same atma in German is 348959443. Meaning they would have to rearrange alot of numbers for alphabetical sorting. For manual sorting all you're saying is any number can be moved in any order. That wouldn't affect the language barrier you come across in alphabetical sorting would it?

Wasn't the "atma fix" supposed to be out already?

After speaking with the development team regarding the possibility of organizing key items manually, we were informed that unfortunately it's not currently possible from a technical standpoint. The dev. team also asked us to pass along their apologies.

No, the problem is actually that the items have the same ID in different languages but start with different letters. So sorting by first letter is different from sorting by ID.

Also, I think you already said that, Camate.

How about better organization of Atma, Abyssites and NM pop key items? Perhaps their own categories? It's all just thrown into a long list at the moment making it very hard to find what I'm looking for sometimes.

Thanks for asking Camate. Apologies are not necessary. I appreciate the consideration to even check, knowing that they are busy working on other things.

I like this idea.

I'm one of those freaks that likes to complete everything.... I've been working on completing EVERY city quest and such for a long time ... and let me tell you how difficult it is when I take a break and then come back and am like "Did I finish this quest or no?" Hard to find it in the long list of now completed quests.

I've since reverted to a very complex Excel spreadsheet that shows every quest in every city, town, zone. Every Atma, every Abyssite, every spell, every (still adding stuff to it).

I'm a bit ... something something something. I find it difficult to believe that the sorting of these lists "alphabetically" would be a technical hurdle from development standpoint. However, they did seem to respond specifically to "manual sort".

It would make things much easier.

As would this:

... I rather dislike the idea of having my Ziska's crossbow at the bottom of the list because it starts with Z ...I think you might be unaware of what holding CTRL allows you to do while examining multiple item lists. It dawned on me, recently, that this function might already be in place, tried it and was overjoyed. Much like SHIFT can let you move the camera with arrow keys while a menu is open, CTRL+L/R lets you page down when it isn't just one list open.

i was thinking more along the lines of automatically sorting the atma based on use, have them sorted in order by how many times you have equipped said atma

edit: sorting the atma when talking to the atma infusionist in every abyssea zone would be preferred =)
