I started playing a few days before everything happened in Japan, and basically figured out bits on my own and made it to lvl 20 THF. The last 2 days I've been on off working out crafting.
Would be nice to meet new people to help me out as I don't really have a clue what I'm doing really, Don't even know how a LS works :/.

Fayez: Welcome to the game. I am new too and I also started on Cereberus. I played over there for a little while (lamer is my ign) but I noticed most people aren't really *there* for new players. They are too busy at the purple cave and with their friends to be nice to helpful people. On my last day there I joined a linkshell run by the player jzero. You should join that one if you insist on sticking around .. HOWEVER
I made a new character "Super" on Leviathan. The experience is very different. There are people who talk to you, help you out, answer questions, and get you in a linkshell. I am in a good one and I really like the game more than I did on Cereberus. You should move off of that server because it has so many unfriendly and busy people. I found it to be unwelcoming to new players and crappy.
It's not all rays and sunshine on Leviathan, but it's nicer for me and I think it will be nicer for you. If you end up on that server msg me. My name is 'Super' and I can get you in my shortbus linkshell. It is full of nice people who know how to play already. Most of the time they are busy in abyssa, but they always answer questions.
A linkshell is just a chatroom. The one I was in on Cereberus was okay at first, but I noticed the players were 'returning' and not really into helping people outside of their clique. I didn't like that. The chatroom I am in now is full of nice people. They help me so much.
about this game: Most places are empty. It is hard to find a party (even harder on cereberus) because most times they are all in that place beyond the purple cave. I am not high enough to go there and I dont really want to either because I want to enjoy the real world just like all the older players got to. But I can't because nobody is really around to explore the game with me. That is why you should come to Leviathan. We can explore the world together, you can come into this very nice linkshell, learn, and not be alone.

I was thinking about starting a new character as I didn't really think about my race or class when I started so i want to have a good look through and start again. And I shall indeed message you if I end up on that server :).

Hi. I am from Cerberus, and I am very helpful and very polite. Especially when it comes to New Players. I Co-Lead a Social/Endgame LS. But I help when I can.
Just look me up. My alias is Vraelia. I am on vacation though, but will be back Monday.
Good luck to you both, Fayez and Lamer.

You're welcome. I hope to see you on that server. It is cheaper there too. I used that website ffixah and i noticed Cerebrus is so much more expensive and trust me: that's not good for new players. The linkshell thing has significantly improved the game for me and made it wayyy more enjoyable. You will see what I mean and you will like this game more. Trust me.
also: I found some guides if you want to be a thief. Thiefs are cats (Mithra race). Where you start is good too because it gives different armor I think. I went here to figure out that a magic character should be a tarutaru because it has more INT that the other races. You can also tell when you are setting it up by comparing all the green numbers as you go through the list of different races.
I don't know if this is one of the best sites, but it has information on it which was helpful when I thought about what I wanted to be.

on the right there are two boxes that have information for races and jobs. I hope it helps you if you are still a little bit confused.
and this one is good too because it has all kinds of information and some guides posted at the bottom under 'other' section:

You shouldn't follow guides to the letter because that is so boring, but they are useful in helping to make some decisions if you read the whole thing and remember it for later.
